Very fit but also never afraid to get stuck in and keep slogging. I think their mentality is a large chunk of why they can do such crazy feats of endurance. They'd make good ultra ironman competitors!

Did a local 10k race last night (10.6k in fact) - bloody hell it was hard! Tree stumps to jump over, massive hills, over 100 steep steps to run up, streams to cross, etc, etc. Very serious runners too - most were club runners. I came 10th out of 150 with 50m5s (slow for a 10k but then the winning time was 44m - a road 10k is usually won in a time of 33m or so) and Mrs Matt did brilliantly - her first race since school and she gave birth 9 months ago - beat her very fit friend and came 83rd with 1h02m17s.
Just done a 12.6 mile morning ride to loosen up - hobbling pretty badly!
Sorry to all the salad dodging, exercise avoiding SN fatties on here...

Hej!
SAS are good men, I huntercorp in Danmark army and I fly the heliocopter. We trains very much and it not fun to do. All fitness is a good thing but not to tell tall tales as that those make you sound like wrong type of people!
Rod.

Come on, let's save ourselves a load of grief and have a cold beer. Mine's already been poured and it rather lovely. You got yours in the glass yet?

I've been up Pen Y Fan with a loaded pack and webbing - but only once (not three times) - it was indeed tough. We trained around the area of the base in Crickhowell most of the time.
We also took part in a major training exercise in Scotland (Barry Buddon) and did some serious beasting with full kit over three days - again tough and the kit makes a simple run a total bugger. Not SAS stuff but still hard work.

A good walk is always the one from (get the tissues ready for the spit feast) Talybont on Usk up over the ridge to Fan y Byg to Cribyn then Pen Y Fan across to Corn Ddu down to Storey Arms then up to Fan Fawr and across to Cray. Bit of a beast but on a good day (not many!) the views are awesome.
Don't forget the Bacon Butties at Storey Arms from the Merthyr Girls

Blue - that is the exact place and I heard it's pretty much disused now. Don't forget that I'm an old (34) git now so it was ages ago! It was quite an busy place when we trained there.
Only thing I miss about being in Bristol and Swansea is that the Black Mountains and Brecons are now too far away - I think they are fantastic even in the rain.

Daz, read that again, I know what you meant, you know what you meant but what it sounds like to the uninitiated, out of context is as different matter.....
