td04 and 05 are just as strong as each other so dv removal is fine on both. but as i said before it will sorten the life of the bearings in the turbine shaft because of the pressure build up the the dv would normally remove.
td04 was fitted to the classic uk models. td05 was fitted to imports. then you have varients of each. biggest td05 i'd go to on a 2.0 is and 18g (16g is standard td05 on the imports) 20g is best left to the 2.5 lumps unless you want out and out straight line speed.
my dad's uk wagon has a td04 and "only" runs 270bhp / 280lbft. But it's far quicker than my RA was with the short ratio box and td05 with 280/270 (unmapped). Reason being smaller turbo = quicker spool. which would i go for on my next scoob? td05 16g with a decent map all day long. Unless i won the lottery in which case i'd have a build pretty much the same as Duncans

Never got round to fitting everything on my ra. Had most of it there and then it was a case of the mrs or the car. I chose the mrs. Was looking to build as close to 400 / 400. spec'd it up and was going to cost min of £10k without any labour charges Jimlad bought most of the stuff to put on his.

yeah right choice without a doubt. as i was looking to enter the motor into hill climbs so £10k included a 6 speed setup, brand new cdb 2.5, uprated crank etc, with sti v4 heads, front mount, fpr, bosch 044, 550, td05 18g, simtec etc. Gutted i sold it now.
still there's a few plans ahead
