I agree with Lisa. I feel sorry for that girl because it must be very hard when you are sensitive about your appearance and can't seem to be able to do anything about it. If being overweight like that is in the genes it really must be very difficult to change things. Those who can eat what they feel like without putting on weight are very lucky.

To make fun of someone in that position is cruel amd unnecessary. It is of course a form of bullying and is nothing to be proud about. Tough old world or not, there is no excuse for that kind of behaviour.

Hmm yes, voice of reason.....
There's no excuse for lots of types of behaviours or views, eh Les?

Anyway, sometimes people set themselves up for a fall. Stop eating cakes = less bullying. Oooh, genetic you say? Good excuse but I'm sure that most of the poeple who use that one have had no medical checks into whether that is the case or not.

If you put any info or pics out on t'internet, prepare to have a full spectrum of replies and comments fired back at you. If someone else puts that stuff up with no permission etc., have the pics/comments taken down or ignore it and focus on other things.

I was bullied at school, with something that could not be changed, but I didn't let it bother me to the point of suicide or surgery.
Too many sodding pansies on here and in the public in general. Kids bully each other, it's human nature and part of forming heirarchies etc. Generally things level out as people grow up anyway.

If it's too much for you (person being bullied) then maybe there is something else wrong other than just the normal bullying?

I'm overweight because it's in my Genes = I'm overweight because my parents eat far to much, and are a couple of fat B*stards. They stick far to much on my plate because they are 2 ******* greedy *******, and expect me to eat the same amount. Which I do.

I'm overweight because I'm big boned = See above.

Solution to all fat ******* out there. Stop eating so much, and do some ******* exercise.

Simple problem. Simple solution, STIlover style.

I agree that 4chan isn't the place to go if unless you wish to be ridiculed. Wether or not the post made by the chaps sister is real or not, well, I'd err on side of it being fake.

Is this the same girl

If this were true, why on earth would someone post a picture of themselves inviting ridicule?

If I had a mahoosive nose, or sticky-out ears, posting a piccie online is asking for pish taking.

Luckily no-one online knows I'm crossed eyed and have a tiny ****.

It is daft to go posting pictures of yourself somewhere like that, it is true the girl could lose weight but I cannot find any humour in the fact she either killed herself or the same concept if this is a hoax, it does happen and whether she has "issues " or not its still tragic, potentially she may have done it anyway but this was the catalyst.

I have three kids, all boys and I would hate to think that secretly they were being tormented by people on the internet (or anywhere else) to the point I come home and find one hanging from the garage ceiling to late for me to do anything.

Would it be funny if she was thin and attractive, but then it wouldnt have happened because there would be a forum full of blokes trying to **** her, are we really that fickle ?

I know lots of people, fat, thin, ugly, attractive, able bodied, disabled, Asian, White, Black and persoanlly I dont think any one, even the gingers has any less right to a life and not be persecuted, if you had to make a comment to the young lady in question (if indeed it is/was real) why not say something like, quite cute but lose a few pounds and you would be a very nice, I personally dont feel the need to say anything, I dont feel the need to point out someone elses weight as guess what, they carry it round all day with them, if you do need to point something out there are ways and means.

Sometimes people need offending and I am all for being straight with people, but in a case like this, picking on the vulnerable and driving them to suicide is just horrific, you have to be careful with teenagers I find, they get upset and offended very easily, well some do and tend to be a bit self obsessed and desperate for peer approval, I have said things in jest to my mates teenage daughter and she goes into a right moody. I remember what it was like back then, other kids can be merciless but I was lucky I would just **** them but if they pick off a weak one then they will exploit it, dont know why they feel the need to do that, I take the p1ss but am careful and only say what I can get away with.

Say someone came on here and said one of their kids had killed themselves, been bullied for being a bit wimpy, gay or whatever would we still be laughing, are you sure everyone you know isnt in that position ?

The local sweaty socks in Aberdeen are always quick to point out I could do with losing a few pounds and that I appear to be from Engerland - Usually expressed as "Fckuk off home you fat english ****" - The only bit that bothers me is the English bit as it's factually incorrect.

The rest I can live with

Yes, you get to a point when you dont really care as much, I used to get touchy but I think as you get older you get less bothered, you know yourself and know you arent a model, athlete or whatever, plus you tend not to have to deal with horrible mean kids at school, very rare anything anyone says bothers me now but I do understand that not everyone is like that, especially kids and teenagers.

I know things have changed "today" - but I was bullied at school.

One day I had enough - smacked the biggest one on the nose - Problem solved.

once the physical stuff stopped - I then got the cold shoulder from pretty much everyone.

Hey ho - their loss not having me as a pal

Obviously kid's topping themselves is unpleasant - but fault lies with the parents in not spotting that their kids were that un-happy / Fat / Ugly / whatever and not helping them through it.

I see where you are coming from Jacko and respect that you don't want an out of control pc era as well but I have a completely different view of this.
Yeah, the point of all this bs I'm writing has been missed by a mile, with respect (and depending on my own mood swings, I may change opinion tomorrow, who knows )

Driven to suicide, come on. The reason this is apparently happening more and more is becuase kids are not taught how to cope with things and how to deal with tough emotional situations etc. including bullying.
Nowadays it all seems to be about protecting everyone from everything and not about teaching people how to look after themselves.

Teenagers can be moody and very changeable in how they can cope and this is down mostly to hormones etc.
Now, not all kids who are bullied then go on to committ suicide or joing the great fad of 'cutting' so surely there are other factors.

Kids being massively fat nowadays is mostly due to parents being idiots and feeding them ****, that's child abuse imho, the kids then get bullied etc. who's fault is that really?

Now should we have zero bullying in school, can we eradicate it? No. And we shouldn't fight to get rid of all bullying, just extreme cases, as I believe it's all part of growing up and teaches kids alot.

If a kid is messed up enough to kill themselves then it is not just down to one issue it's down to many issues that I believe stem from the pc attitudes of the gen. pub., which are rife, so you're point makes no difference to my opinion I'm afraid.

The more we get all pissy about a little bit of name calling and a bit of a beating here and there, the less the kids/parents can cope with it when it does happen to them/their kids. Simple as.
Kids/adults will still kill themselves for whatever reasons, they find some.

We could of course completely sterilise every experience a child has, just in case. But that's crazy. Or we could go down the route the film Equilibrium took and try to stop anyone being able to be aggressive to one another? Nah, didn't think so.

So what's the cure to this. Restrict all communication and monitor it so that bullying/offense to others etc. doesn't happen, watch every second of every persons life to make sure that they don't do something that someone else either doesn't like or has a low opinion of? Because the more we whinge and whine about how people shouldn't do this or that, the more we tighten the nooses around our own necks with respect to how we are controlled by 'the powers that be'.

Either we want to be told what to do, every second of the day, or we just try and have a little more of a 'c'est la vie' attitude about things.
But it appears that most are going to bring about an end to our own civil liberties without even realising it.

Hmmm, I don't think I should have sprinkled that crack on my cornflakes this morning......

Again, kids are more tetchy due to hormones. Pass on what you've learnt about dealing with others taking the mick and more good will be done than just stopping the mick takers.

Yep, thats and excellent point as were your ones in the previous post, cant say fairer than that.

Sometimes there seems to be an element of "If I can tplay, I am Taking my ball in" with these cases, sort of "Ill show them", petulance etc but whichever way they get there, its tragic that someone take their own life.

Thanks Jacko.

I forgot to add that it is pretty darned tragic when someone does decide to take their own life and would never wish that on anyone or for any family to have to deal with that. I just hope that there is more support for the kids who need it more than others and that it is provided in a sensible manner.

Ah, a decent bit of discussion/banter etc. without it being ruined by a minority of trolls, refreshing

While I agree, we don't want to get overly pc, and kids need to learn to stick up for themselves again, or turn the other cheek, whatever, I don't think we should just think it is ok for bullying to go on.

Some kids, and adults are more sensitive than others, and will react in extreme ways to bullying. I'm not being specific to the original post, just speaking generally. People will be different to each other, some moreso than others, and I'm sorry but other than banter, I don't think it's right to make someone miserable for it, fault or not.

Thing is, there are people out there, as adults, who don't grow out of this behaviour. I appreciate kids are cruel at times, but there is far less excuse for carrying that on into adult life, and you see it here time and time again. Some people don't learn, or actually think being unkind to people is fine.

Again it's not about being pc, but while we might think children should be brought up tougher, and to face things, I equally think it's important to teach people a bit of respect. Maybe if we had a bit more of that instilled in us, as children or adults, we'd all be better off. It's not about stopping any fun, banter, disagreements, opinions etc. but I don't see why we should just accept people being disrespectful, in whatever way.

While some people go through life acting in that way, I bet a good few of us could think of occassions where we have been pissed off at the attitude of others (not just bullying), and for that alone, I don't think it would be a bad thing for people to be taught respect for other people, their feelings, or their possessions, so on, as much if not more than teaching people to just get on with accepting a lack of it.

How about another view then. That of thinking of other people and their feelings and avoiding upsetting them over a subject that they may well be sensitive about.

Is it really necessary to take the **** out of someone when you know you are going to make them feel so unhappy because of what amounts to your jeering at them? Are you so insecure that you feel you have to seize the chance to hammer someone else into the ground just because you are in a position to and the make yourself feel superior?

Does it make you feel really good then to take advantage of a situation like that regardless of what it might do to the person you are ridiculing?

Once upon a time there used to be something called "Tact". It used to be employed by people who used to think about others in an unselfish manner. It was all part of what was known as " decent behaviour".

Nothing wrong with bit of a joke at someone's expense when they know it is all only a bit of fun and can give as good as they get of course. Its all a matter of degree of course.

Oh dear, oh dear. Yeah, of course, I said it was great to berate and bully people I think you'll find that I was saying that it is natural for children and is almost impossibler to stop without eroding other civil liberties etc. You're clearly not really understanding what I was saying then....

As before, I'll come back to this later, when I have more time.

Never said that lack of respect for people was a good thing, that's a marginally different subject to bullying but they are linked.
I'll come back to all this as stated a few times but, in the meantime, what is the solution?

Interestingly:

MySpace Suicide Case: Lori Drew Convicted After Megan Meier Killed Herself Over Fake Messages | World News | Sky News

Just saw on the news today that she got off with it. Apparently they tried to charge her with breaking the T&C of MySpace because that was all they could charge her with as she didn't actually kill her etc.

I wonder if we will ever see this happening here, getting charged for breaking the T&C I mean, or even 'identity theft', LOL (SSU )
