Dave,

Think me and Pimmo are only 2 firm so far, 9 am and 10.30 am so guess Simon would need next car for midday or so, unless you can persuade him to take a long lunch . We are still using Bidston Tesco as the meeting place. Hope you can make it

cheers,
dnc

Two mate, I don't know if JGM has you down to be mapped ? I'd give him a ring if I where you, he's sorting mine at 10:30 I cant see it being a problem, but he asked further up the thread about anyone else and no one replied.

There do tend to be a lot of people who say they will and then don't.

Hope to see you tomorrow.

Firstly a big thanks to Simon, took the trouble to explain everything etc and gave car a significant hike in power and torque . Top fella, even tho he is a Southerner

Also cheers to Pimmo for organising the GB; hope everyone else has a successful day!

Cheers,

I really enjoyed the stress of today didn't enjoy the dying of my ECU though Simon did replace it though with no charge to me, which I felt really bad about

As for the remap .. I've gone from 228 to about 262 .. graph to follow.. but I don't really notice it to be honest.

Its smoother and will do more for the fuel... but all the comments of Night/day are far from the true.

If you hadn't told me it had been mapped I wouldn't know.. and I've been driving it all day ..

Simon as done what he can and I have no complaints at all with him .. 260bhp with basically only an exhaust change.. is awesome...

I'm happy with it !! and very happy with the amount Simon charged.. he really has a skill there !! and such a friendly helpful bloke ... Thanks

ocassionally the 99/00 ecu fry during programming.. hence I carry spares, sorry mark that yours was one of the ocassional ones.

some cars make good power and sometimes they don't.. not necessarily anything at issue just one of those things.. it was a hot day to be far so this may have hampered the reading.

Hi Pimmo,
That's still a pretty decent hike and assuming similar torque I would have expected it to be quite noticeable. Mine went from 326/306 to 340/332 with a similar margin all way through rev range. More responsive (I have a local roundabout where I can compare exit speed and how much my hair is on end) and smoother also. I remember 1st time I had mine mapped and there seemed to be some lag between the mapping and the full effects (think it seemed to go much better after next fill up, posted this on here and apparently not unheard of) - maybe you have the same? 262 in a classic is not going to be slow.
Cheers,

The reading is what I expected .. but I think I hyped up my expectations of the feel of the car .. I trust Simon 100% and for the extra 30bhp I guess I shouldnt have been expecting to feel a different car

All i can say is im gutted.

Before putting my ECUTEK 3 on we took the car for a power run to see what it was putting out and to see if everything was running sweet as my fuel pump has began sticking sometimes when i start the car, so to ensure this was not causing the car to run lean we did a power run.

The car made 265bhp, thats just with the PPP ECU and decat, so simon turned to me and said the words i was dreading "Its not worth it". Apparently my standard turbo can only handle 280bhp and on a good day Simon may have got 275bhp out of it so he said it wasnt worth paying £300 for a maximum of 10bhp.

So i payed £50 petrol, £50 for Simons time, and over 3 hours of my life for nothing, so i am still really gutted.

On a positive note, Simon checked all fuelling figures and boost and said that the engine was solid and running really well so i shouldnt worry about the engine blowing up any time soon, plus i now know my car has 265bhp which is very healthly.

Still gutted though as i had been looking forward to an increase in power for weeks while this group buy was running, i wanted around 280bhp but like Simon said,it just wouldnt have been worth it.

dave m

you can still increase your power you just need to look for a replacement turbo, something like a vf34/35 would take you over the 300 mark and not end up detting your engine.

if you ask simon what he reccomends he is best to advise you.

their is always next time so don't worry too much, simon is quite often in loughborough on thursdays i think so just at the end of the a50.

It just shows again what an honest and straight bloke Simon is that he said its not worth it....... would have been easy to map it and take your money. When I told him my background story he said we'd do power run first then if it did not need mapping, he wouldn't do it, even after coming all this distance. It did need mapping so he did it and it is definitely quicker. So, Simon, hats off to you again.

car hasn't been mapped before so full ecutek price not £300 but £632.50 for 10bhp..
Hence not worth it imho.
It is unusual for the ppp map to make that much but your mods seemed to just gel together well.. it was already making nearly 1.2bar etc.. I thought I explained all this already

nothing? you know it is safe, the fuelling is safe, there is no det and it is making good power... I don't call that nothing

stick a turbo on it.. vf34/35 etc and remap and the gains would be significantly more

1st point- I had the ECUTEK 3 in my bag on the back seat, it wasnt the PPP ECU that i was expecting to get mapped, the ECUTEK i had has being mapped before and i thought we agreed in emails and on the thread that the final price would be £310 including fitting of the ECUTEK 3, you even did the sum for me on the thread.

2nd point- Reguarding having explained all this already, im not sure where this is coming from, i was asked how i went on and i re-explained to the guy who asked how i got on.

3rd point- I wasnt suggesting i had being ripped off or saying the trip was a wasted one hence the next paragraph when i started by saying "On a positive note" and then went on to mention all the things that you just mentioned such as fueling, boost and det.

4th point- i plan to sell the car so spending more on a new turbo and remap is now not an option, but, i DO plan to get another impreza and would definately consider getting it remapped by yourself.

Not sure if you read my post and thought i was having a go because i wasnt but i cant help feeling although you have had a dig at what i wrote.

No hard feelings i hope and in the future i would pass your name on to anyone else who may be after a getting their car mapped.

I don't think he means to come across like that .. he's not that sort of person ..

Glad you replied though, good to make sure there are no hard feelings.
