Dont know whether this is of use to you guys with noisey tappets - like me - but I've just been given 2 options.I'm gonna try option 1 tonight...
Drain just over half a litre of oil - 1 pint to be precise and replace with Dextron 2 ATF. The tech guys at API engines have just said that this has cured 99% of the the tappet problems theyve worked on (on Subarus any way).It apparantly will not affect the engine or the oil through its service life (3000 miles in my case.)
Failing this the next phase before replacement heads is to use (in extreme cases)the following option..
Drain oil and refill with 50/50 mix of parrafin and new cheapy 10w40 (till full on dipstick) of oil flush mix for 45 mins.
Drain again and refill with full new oil less 1 litre, fill the extra qty to max with again ATF and run for 1000 miles.
Drop out again and refill with your favorite choice of engine oil.
I'm deffo going for option 1 and will let you know if this works.
The advice given seemed to be good and the key seems to be ATF?
Will let you know either way.
If you hear a large bang or you get interference on your telly, option 1 then option didnt work!![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

PS. magnet, the advice on the arches is good and the car looks sweet!![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
PPS You wont regret fitting the down pipe either.

The Heads were done by H.D.C.Subaru.
Your looking about £600 supplied and fitted.
Ask for Howard & tell him Andi sent you, Howard is the DADDY.
He Also sorted a very very ill impreza wagon for my mate. My mate wont go anywhere else now, neither will I.
Howard was recomended to me by my local subaru main dealer.
Good luck,
Andi

Flat 4: is that a RS Legacy on the Left hand side????
HDC...... Top man is our Howard, i have to say that as i run the Rally car on HDC Parts in the form of a light Sponsorship deal, had a couple of drives up to Yorkshire just to see Howard from right down south, well worth it.

sorry, haven't checked this post for most of the week
answers as follows:
1. yes it's an RS version (nice pink strut braces as standard
)
2. not sure on the colour, i'll get back to you on that one
3. i think my dad wants 2250ono for it (might not have the STI wheels on it though)
4. might be persuaded to sell mine for the right money (2999.99 to be exact
)

Some tw@t has smashed my drivers side wing mirror
Didn't damage the assembly, just broken the glass. Anyone know if I can just get new glass, from a breakers perhaps? Any suggestions?

As others have said lately on here, i suggest you speak with Howard at HDC, he most have one kicking around in the back store amongst the 40 odd legacy doors that are in there.

Our car is still going strong, but the tappets are getting more noisy all the time...
...See if an engine-flush helps at the next service.
