thought u could only do these corses if u were under a certian speed, so dont think theyll give u that option at 24 mph over the limit but fingers crossed.

I lost my licence a few years ago for doing 107mph on the M25, It took 18months to summons me so thought i had got away with it,
My only advice to you if it goes to court is to look smart, A suit maybe, be polite and not too much bum licking,
I was the same as Bioforger, Got a 14 day ban, hefty fine and no points, Thought my insurance was going to shoot up but as their computers will only imput bans in months, they would be lying by putting 1 month down, My insurance never went up and was left without points, So for me, other than the big fine it could of been worse to get 6 points.
It happens to the best of us mate, its not as if your saying the coppers are *** holes, you know what you done wrong and will accept the punishment,
Good luck mate

Hello all, just to clarify....
It was meant to be a humourous reply......
Of course i have sometimes found myself momentarily over the speed limit. I have even been given the benefit of several constabularies traffic officers wisdom on the evils of speeding in person.
Personally i detest speed cameras for the very reason that there is no reasoning with them. If you get pulled over by a traffic cop, treat them with respect and courtesy, i have found that if you have a valid/justifiable reason for being slightly over a limit they will cut you some slack and give you a warning.
Good luck with your problem.

If you were doin 54mph past a school at 3pm your ****ed, if it woz the middle of no-where you'll get 3 points an wotever the minimum fine is. As a rule insurance companies recognize the Facist state we live in, an ignore 3 points. The local council have been known to lower the speed limit excessivly, sometimes the local feds object (and dont enforce it, or at least threaten to) sometimes they dont.

I agree entirely about speed around schools and in the middle of towns etc,but now they have lowered the speed limits to 30s and 40s everywhere now and alot of them just look like your average main road! The main road by me is a nightmare now-the A442 in between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth as they have lowered a good part of the road down to 40 and 50 now mainly due to motorbikes as there is a cafe they all meet at and many of them treat the road as there own private race track And as one was killed a few weeks back i m sure they ll be doing even more to it.

Just an update, that as of yet i ve received nothing and i don t want to get my hopes up but doesn t the NIP have to be issued within 14 days?
It was 2 weeks today i was clocked but i know that they could still actually post it today, and would then reach me by the end of the week.
The 14 day period does that make any difference to what you were caught by ie camera, van or gun in my case?

I'm pretty sure the 14 day rule stands from the date of their letter.
I reckon the worst you'll get is 6 points and a fine, most likely to be 3 points and £60.
I was boasting about my clean licence and then got zapped without knowing it. 54 (same as you - wierd) got me three points and £60 fine - just got my licence back with SP30 on it in today's post.

Did they not give you something when they waved you in? If so, that's your NIP, now you are waiting on the court summons. As he said, if it is busy, they might not bother to follow up...
I would have a look at the road again though. Remember there are guidelines for where speed traps can be set up, no street furniture in the areas, camera signs within at least 1 mile from the site. They admitted it isn't a usual spot so you might be in luck with one of these.

No i wasn t given anything at the time, hence i was thinking that i should still be waiting on a NIP as i haven t been told that they intend to take anything further?
As far as i know there are no speed camera signs anywhere near where i was zapped but didn t know if they need to be signed or not?

The siting thing is part of the regulations on who gets the revenue. Not sure which way round it is but they have to be sited without restrictions on the view or as i say bus shelters etc which can cause a false reading. The police here have fold up signs too so you can't say you weren't warned.
I'm sure it is within a mile so might be worth a (slow) run through to check there is a warning sign.

When i got done the nip is within the producer,
The courts have 6 months to raise a summons, However, it doesnt state a time period they have to send it to you in, and its not recorded delivery either. It took 18 months for them to send me the summons and the date it was raised on was 1 day before the time allownace ran out, so it took them a year to send it to me,
I thought I'd got away with it!
14 day ban and a 600quid fine, you learn to repect the speed limits once youve lost your licence even for that short preiod of time,
Good luck with ti mate

All i gave them at the time was my name,so am i waiting on a NIP or to see if a summons comes through?
As surely you must be informed if your going to be taken to court before they actually summon you?

That's right you have to have the NIP sent to you or given to you! with in 14 days of the offence, but they can post it out on the 14th day, so it could get to you in the next couple of days (hopefully not) If you don't get it then you have got away with it

If you were going to get 3 points and a £60 fine you would of got it there and then.
I to got caught doing 54 in a 30 ended up in court was fined £170 plus costs and was given 5 points.
I was caught speeding in the september but wasnt in court till the january. If you send a letter in saying you were a bad boy and are sorry they may let you off with a fixed penalty.
Good luck.

I got caught doing 56 in a 40 about 9 years back.
Got summons to court and I pleaded guilty by post but also said I had the squirts like Alex Ferguson said when he got let off for speeding at the same time....didn't help me though.
3 Points and 60 quid fine!
Good luck

'some chaps in high vis coats run from a layby and point to tell me to turn in to the road opposite them!'
I just pictured them running after you for 'a set distance' then frantically waving in your rear view mirror to get you to pull over !!!

52mph in a 30 mph too, on my bike. The cops who stopped me gave me a right b0llocking, told me I was being a tw@t and giving other bikers a bad name but wrote me a ticket so I got 3 points and a fine. Think I was quite lucky, but on my part I held my hands up and didn't give the guy any grief. That was in July 1999 and I seriously have never ever broken the speed limit in a 30 or 40 limit since. Hopefully you will be fine mate !

by the sounds of all this i was a very lucky boy 5 years ago, i got caught doing 137mph on the m6 by preston by a unmarked car who followed me and had video evidence.
i ended up with summons after 7 months to attend the court in leyland (i live in manchester), after seeking advice i pleaded guilty with mitigation by post. my mitigation was that it was 7.30am on a sat morning, the motorway was empty and i gave it i quick blip in my new car then slowed back to normal speed as soon as i reached other traffic (which was confirmed by the camera car).
my court date was set and i attended, it was a proper court and i had to sit and wait with proper criminals only difference for me was i sat in front of the dock not in it.
best way i can elxplain my experience was sort of like an auction, my job depended on driving, i had no remaining holiday and i had driven to the court (as it's 2 1/2 hours away and i didn't have anyone to take me). upon explaining all this the judge wanted to ban me for 2 weeks but as i had driven to the court he could not issue a ban.
end result i ended up with 6 points, a sp50 (speeding on the motorway) with sentenced on on my liecence, and a £850 fine. sounds like i was lucky compared to what i have read about others experiences.
i've never been one for putting my foot down in any area apart from when it says national speed limit, although it's se easy to do even in a diesel car and takes a real effort to make sure you don't.
to the op, good luck with yours but don't think because it's been a couple of weeks it won't happen.

Had the dreaded summons this morning
In a way it s a good thing as i knew i wouldn t be lucky enough to get away scott free so at least i ve got a court date - 20th August.
From what i read on the summons your better off doing it via post as the fine will be less due to not having to pay court costs,i m just going to make a point in the mitigating circumstances section about the car being a **** behind and that i only sped up at the end of the road for a brief period of time,so at least they know why i was quite a bit over whether it ll make any difference i ll have to wait and see.
I ve checked and there aren t any speed camera signs anywhere near the location but as i m not 100% whether they need them and that i could just make it worse so i ll just accept it

Pretty much as bad as it could have been = 6 points and £240 fine!
Really pissed off with that as in all the guide lines i looked at it was saying 4 points and upto £100!
People may disagree but i thought this to be harsh as they could of given me less points with the hefty fine or vise versa but clobbered me on both

Speeder, speeder, spawn of satan. If you lose your licence for 50 years it wont be enough!
Speed limits are there for yours and everyone else safety, imagine if you had run over a child... excuse me officer i only blipped the throttle momentarily, i was only doing 54, how was i to know i'd kill someone?
Seriously, i have no sympathy.
