In that case I'm not sure, although the bloke who runs the place doesn't look like he'd ever drive all that fast.... probably a trip round the block in the 30 limit where the garage is situated

If the tester used the rollers on your Impreza (assuming its not a 2wd 1.6GL ) he is incompetent;

MOT tester's manual clearly states that the following should not be tested on brake rollers. They are vehicles with:

• more than one driving axle permanently engaged
• limited slip differential
• belt drive transmission
• Brakes for which the servo operates only when the vehicle is moving

An Impreza turbo is permanent 4wd AND has a rear LSD, so on both counts they should never be tested on two wheel brake rollers. Even if no damage occurs, its still incorrect practice (i.e they are doing it wrong). In addition it will give inaccurate readings as it cannot measure inbalance correctly due to the limited slip diff.

In these cases, there are two correct methods: One is to use a plate brake tester, or the alternative is to take the car for a test drive on a level road and perform several controlled stops from 20mph with a calibrated decelerometer (Tapley meter).
