What do you use your garage for?
#33
Mine goes in it every night. The garage is like Fort Knox (Alarm system with switches on the door, pressure pads on the floor, infra-red sensors instead of passives, all hooked into the house alarm - to the local police station, which is 2 mins down the road!!!)
Also got 2 mountain bikes, fold down work bench covered in sh1te (not literally!!) and weight training apparatus.....
AND I can just about squeeze out of the car (unless parked to close to the wall - happened once and added some breezeblok particles to my paint work )
Oh well...

Mrs Data's car goes in the garage and the scoobydoo goes on the driveway. (hers is a higher theft risk than the P1. Shortly will have a double garage so both motors can go in.
I like the idea of not having to defrost it in the mornings!
I did hear once (when I was in the RSOC) that garages just provide a better environment for the theives to work in while they figure out how to overcome your car's security system.
Mine will still have the disklok on, even when it is in the garage.

Our Scoobs are in the garage overnight while we are at home - and the garage doors face the house 25 feet away - and the two shotguns poking out of the upstairs windows might put any scum off the idea......

Well, fortunately we have a double garage
Only problem is that only one of the doors currently opens - try it - no chance!
Therefore PTMW! goes into the side that cannot open & GSXR in front of PTMW! The other turbo goes into the side that does (Vectra TD).
Again fortunately, having lived in London, I have learnt to park in very small tight spaces, as it takes a lot of manouevering to get PTMW! in & out - even without the bike in the way.
In addition are p/bikes - BBQ - mowers, work bench, spare wheels (trackdays) & a boarded out roofspace with untold cr@p.
Still got space to spare

Hi All
I would like to park my Scoob in the garage but I don't have enough space to get in or out due to cars parked on road opposite. This might sound strange but my garage opens up directly on to our road with a driveway on the side.
I would have to get a neighbour to move their car every time I needed to get in or out of the garage. The neighbours don't seem to like me anyway as the car makes too much noise (Scoobysport Backbox!) so I don't want to make things worse.
I only fitted a new garage door last year and I can't even use it.

I like Gary's cork tiles idea.
I have a late 60's garage which is plenty wide enough to get the Scoob in, as long as the passnger door is tight to the wall. Scoob shares garage with 2 bikes and a bag of bathroom tiles.
Is wide enough to get a 911 RS in, if anybody want to lend me one...

You know those preformed polystyrene end cover things that you find on washing machines, dishwashers, etc when they're delivered in their box?
Well, I've got one of those screwed to the wall, so no problems with flinging open the door. Works a treat!

This thread has inspired me to get my garage floor repainted, which I have been meaning to do since about last Sept. Done it last night beautiful Now I've to give it a couple of weeks to harden off and I can put the car away again
One thing about putting a daily use car away every day is the hassle of getting out opening garage getting in car & driving in (I know pathetic isn't it ) - Has anyone used one of these remote control door thingies? How much? and are they worth the bother?
Cheers
Mick

Up on over remote garage, filled with windsuring gear, bike, fridge (no beers, too far to walk), all sorts of sh*ite, that never gets used, car still fits in no problem house is 200 years old, so built with horse and cart in mind. Oh and shed loads of car cleaning product, which do get used. And more old tyres than I know what do with.

Mick,
I have the remote garage door and I reckon its definitely worth it just to see the look on my neighbours face as he scrapes the ice off his S-Type jag in the morning, I give him a wave as I leave the garage closing behind me !!!
Also you can pretend you are Batman when arriving home at night, drive at the garage, press the button and see how close you can judge it without scraping the roof.
I don't no the price for sure as they were already fitted when we bought the house but I think they are around £300 per door.
Only problem is that the gear reduces the headroom in your garage so that a 4x4 for instance wouldn't fit
What do I keep in there, my 98 Turbo, the wife's TT and a load of boxes that every time we move house (frequently) just go into the garage and remain unopened !!

Carpet nailed to the wall is another good way of stopping brick scrapes when you open the door or drive in just that little bit too far.
Just bought a new house and dropped a ballcock by not checking the scoob would fit - the garage is about three inches too short, so the other half parks her Clio in there instead.
It looks like the garage used to be long enough, but it was partitioned with a breezeblock wall to make a seperate utility room - gonna have to do some DIY with a big hammer to extend the garage methinks

My parents garage is double and has an upper floor, there I store all my spare Scoob bits.....(nearly enough to build a second scoob - just need an engine ) and the punch bag I use to practice boxing training

Park mine in the 40ft barn which is attached to the house and alarmed etc... with a car parked right up against the doors so they cant open without moving the other car back.
Plenty of space to work on it, with a seperate workshop as well .
Nothing but the best for me Scoob
Cheers

Park my Beemer and my bike in the garage. Bike goes across teh garage at the back, and there is about 3 inches to spare once the car is in too!
Having said that, I had my garage broken into and a socket set stolen. All my "toys" were in there at the time, so I did leave my car outside and backed right up to the door for quite a while so that they couldn't do it again. Oh, and I got an alarm fitted to the garage door too.
Going back a few posts, there is a lot of talk about really expensive cars left outside etc. The really weird thing for me was that if my old Scoob had been in the garage when it was broken into, I would be really worried now. Because it was just another BMW, albeit 10 grand more than the Scoob, I'm not too bothered. Strange, that even though the BMW is a better car all round, it just doesn't have the emotional attachment of my old STI! Ahh Bless!

I haven't got a garage 'cos in Central London they cost as much as a house does up north.
However, my Dad has a double garage (one side full of junk) and puts his Rover 800 in it. Because the car is so long, he has to park pretty close to the wall. So that he never has to worry about judging the distance to the wall, he's hung a small weight on a piece of string from the ceiling of the garage at safe distance from the wall - the weight is almost touching the floor. He just drives up to the string and, when he sees it move from the driving seat, he stops. My Dads cleverer than your Dad

My garage is built at a stupid angle so you have to do a crazy move to get in. The wife parks her Brava in there with a freezer, 2 mountain bikes, a ride-on mower, a ZX6-R and the patio furniture for the winter. I get the scooby round behind the house and lock the gates with a hige disk lock from my bike. I also live next door to a 72 year old woman who knows more about what goes on in my street than MI5. You cant fart without her knowing.

On the topic of small garages, i am about to move (next Fri) to a house with a single garage. Sad thing is the Clio isnt going in, but the Enemy's new Yaris will do. Even that looks like it will be tight widthwise !!
Will be screwing all sorts of foam, carpet and polystyrene to the wall methinks !!
Either that or i will fill it with thousands of crisp 12" singles.

Olly, whereabouts are you (when on this planet)?
My dad, apart from his tractor and the mower, kept his Cobra kit in the garage - vaguely drivable but never finished over nine years - and we always said it was the fastest catbed in Sussex. So you'd better be elsewhere
What got me was the time where I was trying to finish off the carpeting in the footwell and had to pick out the week-old rabbit intestines and liver first [barfing smiley].
As his car outside was a Mondeo, the priorities were better than some people above!
