RACIST?

Don't know who is moderating this thread but I can't help thinking it should be locked. Plenty of sensible points have already been made and it now seems to be repeating itself and getting nowhere

i believe its how you use it
ie "hey you, *****" (direct to someone ,is offensive )
the coins in my pocket makes a ***** noise.( is an adjective sentence)
ordering from a takeaway then having a cold ***** is a direct to the chinese behaviour,
i still believe ***** is offensive in a way.
as i RUN my own takeaway. i still find it rude when people say i want a chinky menu, the chinky food is here(from a delivery)
where did that "K" came from its not as if its an abbrieviation of the word CHINESE
regards

Very true Andy & WWP8.
I suppose the term "chinky" is slang to many people for Chinese food. As such, you don't realise it is offensive to others.
I'm probably guilty of using it in this way, so I shall try to make ammends from now on (even though I don't really like Chinese food).
Chris.

So what about Brits, Yanks and Aussies - all offensive?
Where do you draw the line? I think shortening the word to describe a person is offensive, I would feel annoyed if someone referred to my girlfriend as a 'Jap' but don't feel offended when someone refers to my car as a 'Jap import'.

Moderator hat on.
Whilst not wishing to get too politically correct on the BBS, it has been demonstrated that certain descriptors are offensive to some and therefore thats good enough for me.
So, can we agree that the following are considered offensive and should not be used regardless of reference :-
*****
Chinky
Paki
Jap
******
coon
I know this is a far from exhaustive list and I would be grateful to hear from anyone with any others off line.
Unless anyone has any contrary view, lets not get hung up on:-
Brits,
Aussies
Yanks
Jocks
for the time being
And no, I don't think this is demonstrating double standards, but as a Scot, I don't have a problem with being referred to as a "Jock". AFAIK, the same goes for the rest. Have heard "us Aussies", "we Brits" and "us Yanks" countless times.

Dizzy,
We've all done stupid/illegal/dangerous things in our youth! And some comments from younger people are worrying!! Let's hope they mature and see what they are doing now is wrong!
I'm happy for women to be equal and encourage it! But does that mean we stop holding doors open for women (as they are equal)? Is that PC gone mad, or just an excuse to be ignorant?
Manners cost nothing as my teachers use to say! A little thought, before some actions goes a long way!
More pearls of wisdom from the school of Andy Tang!

Yeah an mines is a cracker
1 an 2 style 3 WRX :P (see below for actual sentence)
Yes it was a deliberate mistake just to give an example of how stupid things can get
Diablo I don`t envy u r job as moderator on this topic m8 u r
butt must b aching on that fence And I`m not trying to make light of the subject matter here.
Kung foo right on bud, u don`t get grief m8 cos the Japanese
build some of the worlds best motas, hell without them we wouldn`t have a need for this board (BTW no offence intended what so ever in the second sentence of this post
In the second sentence the word "she" editted out and replaced by a "1" as it can be percieved as sexist, the word "old" was editted out as it can be percieved as ageist and the word "Jap" was editted out as it can be perceived as racist. Doesn`t leave much of a sentence now does it?
Why don`t we all just engauge brain before opening mouth and we`ll all get along as we always have.
L8r folks

I'm the product of genetic engineering gone wrong. I've got Euro blood (mother is half dutch), Arab blood ( 6-7 generations ago), Asian Blood (Malaysia my daddy) and loads of other mixture. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I've got it all, looks, inteligence, name it I've got it. The only thing that is wrong with me is that I'm only 5'7". Goddammit!!! The world is sooooooooo unfair!!!
