I've no problem with this, in fact I get good payments when the company does well add to that flexible working (i've worked from home for 8 weeks this year), Healthcare (used a lot this year), pension, sick pay, holiday pay.

I guess it's possible to earn more, but as a package it's great.

Matteeboy, there are people out there who are perfectly happy going to work for somebody else and being paid well for it. What can't you understand? All you do is go on and on about how your life is so much better than everyone else's. Is that really the case, or is it something you keep telling yourself to make you feel better?

This thread always had your name all over it. What a surprise.....hook line and sinker.

Agree the thread always had his name on it, but it was also designed for members like you to jump down his throat after he took the bait.

For that reason, I'm out

Am I the only person who hasn't read Matteeboys posts in that way? Sure, he's biased towards working for yourself but I personally don't think he's done anything other than give his point of view.

Typical of our damaged society. If someone is doing better than you and dares to talk about it, then they're showing off. It's jealous bull**** and you know it.

Shocking

A thread about how much everyone earns and Pissy has yet to post about how rich he is and question how can anyone possibly survive on less than 50k a year. His ban is over an he posted yesterday

ScoobyNet really has gone to the dogs

I'm just shy of the top 5% BTW, may fall into it if we get our performance bonus next year.

It is fantastic if you work hard and see the rewards. It is very distasteful to then try and ram this fact down other people's throats at every given oppotunity. All it does do is underline his insecurities.

(Oh, and I'm on £23k plus bonus )

COB is right, the job is most important every time.

I was not paid that much for my qualifications at my job, I was getting less than London bus driver at one time. I was not that bothered because we could manage on what I got, and my job satisfaction was hard to beat!

I'm with Notorious on this one though. On this thread I haven't seen any evidence to suggest he has done this. Other threads in the past perhaps, but this one - I'd like to see an example before I change my mind.

Calm down Chris. I haven't said what we earn either - just that there is a different way to the "norm."

I'm just trying to suggest a slightly different way of doing things. Work less, earn more - seems sensible but not everyone's cup of tea.

I've done labouring, gardening, temping, sales, engineering, all sorts so am not unused to all types of work and different ways of working.

Current situation suits - if that experience is of use to others, then all good.

I'm actually finding the thread to be very interesting - very varied and some useful information from most people.

If you have to have a go, why not have a go at those that have said they are in the top 1% or stated their salaries? Not sure what ours is, not sure what bracket we fall into - who cares? I don't.

Not in the slightest, although I can see how my post lead you to that assumption. But are you stating that he doesn’t go on about his earnings and standard of living at every given opportunity? That IS bad taste.

Depends what your outgoings are.

Even wehn at my old job I was on about £21k, which in a warehouse as a skivvy (in the poor north ) is a decent wage. Mrs was/is on min wage, and we were very comfortable with a scoob to pay for and a mortgage, full set of bills.

Some folk need a reality check if they can't accomodate their lifestyles to suggest they couldn't live off £23k a year (Oh plus bonus )

All these 'high flyers' and 'movers and shakers' with nothing better to do than post sh*te on a washed up car forum all day.

i have to say, as a 10+ years as a 6 figure gross contractor, I am glad to leave that life behind.

dealing with accountants, tax office, vat, contract renewal each 3/6 months and getting all the sh!tty work - yes you earn £50ph, but some of the not-interesting-enough-for-permies work was really dull.

I'm a fixed income/otc financial data consultant now and i have an interesting job and i look forward to holidays and when i'm sick, i just concentrate on being sick - no worries about all the money.

...of course, I earn enough not to worry about the money, so that doesn't mean much.

contracting is sooo 2000

Why? You only get taxed the higher 40% rate at earnings over £37k not everything.

Top 10% here but I certainly dont feel that rich lol but happy enough.

£1435 - does that include pension contributions and health care etc?

I ask about managing as I'd think it would be hard to own/rent a house and have fun on that much? Maybe I've got it all wrong....of course you could just be paying your mum £100 a month!

Paying almost nothing for a car (both paid for so just insurance, servicing, tax and fuel) is a huge help in maximising income. They can be such a ridiculous overhead.

Just in the process of setting up a private pension. And I will not pay £170 a month for private health care.

It isn't easy I admit, but we are only 26. We saved and put down the deposit on our flat without help from parents. (old man had a massive stroke a year before we bought our first place, so I told mum to keep the deposit money that he had put aside to help towards his care instead.) We also paid for our wedding ourselves (admittidly the scoob did have to go) and had a nice 2 week honeymoon in a 5* hotel in a nice country.

We can't just go out and buy the latest gadget but I'd rather spend the cash on a nice holiday instead. Have had nothing handed to us.

I do have £25,000 credit to spend on the flexible friend though!

Have I completely missed the thread(s) where matteeboy has explained what he does, how much he earns and bragged about it? Can someone hook me up with a link

Life is all about choices and, as long as you are happy, then you've probably made the right ones predominantly. You can probably argue that I have sweeties job out of most people on Scoobynet: I can almost choose how much I earn and even at a bare minimum of 10 or so hours a week with lots of time off I can still take home more than someone on £30,000 a year. However, I miss out on a lot to live this way. I often don't leave the house for days at a time, can get quite bored and frustrated and have little human contact during the week days. However, I'm way happier than I was working for £28k pa as a Town Planner for a Local Authority.......so I guess I made the right choice

So that's roughly £1400 take home? You should be able to scrape by but scrape is the operative word sadly. I know what you mean, I've been there and you have to say goodbye to social life, well most of it . I am not sure what rent is like near you but its £750pm here for a 1bed appartment, albeit a f*cking nice & big one.

Really? Jesus, I though Kent was expensive. But for £750 pcm, you can rent a 3 bed house!
