If you buy a GMT MasterII as I suggested on page 1, you will then want a busier watch maybe a chronograph.......

If you were to start with a SUB you would then move to a GMTII for the upgrade of the 24 hour pointer, and then on again.

This is the complications mountain you will begin to climb......

You may be right mate! As you know I have the IWC, Speedmaster & Oris, so you're probably preaching to the converted (or damned).

But I'm not drawn to the GMT for the collection sake, rather than the engineering appeal and I'm happy to take my time finding the right one... But that sounds very much like I'm in denial of the obvious.......

Who won the war?
I'm from the Black Country, proud of it, and will pronounce it how I bloody well like...seeing that I'm parting with the best part of a decent wedge then I'll also change the names to suit too

I think if I was to buy another watch it would be the simplicity of an IWC or a Panerai. I already have two chunky chronometers.

Well done with this Nath.
But which of the above manufacture the complete watch in house, case, movement and bracelet?
Perhaps the guys out there might be interested to know as a lot use the ETA movement. Not to belittle a very good movement in anyway.

Makers who 100% use their own movements on that list that i reckon (or know anything about) -

Rolex
Patek
A Lange Sohne
AP
Breguet
JLC
Piaget
Seiko
VC
Zenith

Makers who use ETA - after this October will only be Swatch group companies as from this time they will not supply any company that is not in the group.
This will kick the fakers into the long grass (especially those marketing their fakes as powered on legit ETA/Valjoux movements), but that's surely going to force many makers into a major decision to either go into the Swatch group or look elsewhere?

Is there anywhere else they can go as I'd assume other movement makers are either a closed shop or simply not up to the grade that some brands hold themselves in...

I don't know enough to say if movement makers like Unitas, Le Coultre etc are closed shops themselves or in a position to grab some brands?

This is exactly what I ended up doing

Bought my GMT II c in January and picked up a SS White Face Daytona couple of weeks ago.

Personally I like the polished centre links on the GMT but I think the general consensus is that they're too "blingy"

I have been digging around as I have found this subject of replica watches facinating.

Allan, the below link is a factory where most highend replicas are built/assembled.

They do manufacture their own movements, but also buy from PTS, they machine their own cases/case backs/bezels/links/clasps etc, including intricate laser etch/and machine engraving.
They have advanced plating technology and can basically replicate any watch they want, on site.
They have the technology to produce everything from lenses including AR coatings to fingers/faces etc, and they use superluminova technology in their face an finger applications.
They build in a similar environment as all the big Swiss brands do.
Contrary to what I first belived they do vary their serial numbers and they are not all the same stamp for each model run.
º¼ÖÝÊÖ±íÓÐÏÞ¹«Ë¾--²úÆ·½éÉÜ--ÍÓ·ÉÂÖ¡¢×Ô¶¯±í»úо¡¢¾«Ãܼӹ¤

The below link is where they scource their highend movements from.
PTS Resources Limited

The movements pictured are only a small glimps at what they make, the movements that are aimed at replicating Rolex/Breitling/Panerai etc are not shown but are available.
They are exaclty the same including engravings/engine turnings and colouration of escapement.

There is so much more to Replica watches than first meets the eye, the harder you look, the higher the quality.

And if you have got the ***** to gamble and buy a proper amount you can buy a highend circa $400-$500 replica watch for $40-$50.

But at the end of the day BLAG is BLAG but credit were credit is due, these guys can build exceptional movements.

There is an epic thread somewhere started by SalsaKing which is an eyeopener were Replica Watches are concerned, worth a read.

Hello Chris, sorry I didnt respond to your PM RE Daytona, I was away and having log in problems with my O2 dongle thing, when you said you had been offered a Daytona at list and you were wondering what to do.....I actually shouted out loud... BUY IT !

So Im glad you did.

SORRY LINKS DONT WORK, BUT DO IN ORIGINAL THREAD.

I absolutely love it, I think it's one of the best looking SS models you can buy but then I would say that Purists say the bezel and bracelet are too flash but I don't think it is.

The only thing with the polished centre links is that they will scratch easily, I've worn my a lot and don't worry about it anymore but the first few sratches hurt

Go and try one on but if you do I guarantee you will buy it.

Welcome to the SNET Fine Watch Chapter...

I popped into Goldsmiths in Meadowhall Sheffield to try on a GMT I'd seen there a while ago. They had several empty stands and no GMT.

Salesman said that there was a few month waiting list for another batch.

Hinted that this was a growing occurance for the GMT

Time to buy one then...

Four of the watches that are rare to see in any Rolex window are
1. Stainless Steel Daytona (100% never see)
2. LV Green bezel Submariner (95% never see)
3. Milguass Green glass (90% never see)
4.Stainless Steel GMT (60% never see)
Which reflects the current demand.

I'm off out through Heathrow tomorrow and was wondering what 'duty free' prices the Mappin & Web store would give..?

Edit:
Just read I should get VAT off as a minimum as I'm flying out of the EU... That sounds pretty cool if they have a GMT in of course.. will ring tomorrow..

Guess what?
Mappin & Webb Heathrow have no SS Sports at all. They sell them as fast as they get them. I can order one, pay full price (minus the VAT) and pick it up next time I'm out of the country....

Seems they are becoming quite rare...

Do you think Omega will win the battle and get to that same status?

They now have James Bond on side and are building up their 'star list'; and as that is how Rolex started I feel that if the product holds up, then they could have a good stab at it.

I won't be buying from Heathrow BTW, I'll have to go to the High Street.
