Yes Nat but it takes a lot longer ponsing around reading all the latest trashy mags to find out what's "in" and what's not. It's the sort of activity usually carried out by women. Or pillow biters.
Even if they are the latest in "cool" what happened when you bought those glasses from the kids range? Did you not try them on in front of a mirror?!

All it takes is going into decent shops and buying what you like. I don't buy anything because it's in a mag or an advert, i go to shops i like and buy the clothes i like
I've admitted to the bad purchase about the glasses before, so i'll let you have that one
It was a case of buying them as i liked them and then buying a larger size online when i got home, then taking the smaller one's back the next week.

Well that's how I buy clothes too - but I couldn't give two tosses about what the label is - be it Howies, Finisterre, White Stuff, Church, Bolle, Merrell, Berghaus, cycle stuff, TM Lewin, non branded, whatever - I just buy it because I like it. I check the quality of material and stitching to make sure it'll probably last a while and that's about it. Oh and it MUST have no obvious external label.
I hate clothes shopping so it's a rapid "in, buy, out" then home.

It's a joy having the burden of image lifted. Most grow out of it by the time they are about 30. Not half of SN though...
A typical chav (with a few quid) shopping list:
Rolex/Tag/whatever plus other jewellery
BMW/Audi/Rally rep car
TV over 37"
New (or newish) build house in an anytown housing estate (of course all vehementy deny they live on an estate - after all their house has a DOUBLE garage, next doors only has a single...) near a city - to try and make it seem posh.
Naff but expensive resort type holidays in places like Florida.
Like football
Can't tell the difference between a New World and a classic wine without reading the label
Have or want to have a nasty breed of dog
Read the Express or Daily Mail but often get a broadsheet to pretend they are posh.
No degree or higher education "cos it dun't matter" Extreme anti higher education views.

I'm sure some more will come up...

10. Have to confess I don't have a degree, left school when a degree wasn't the be all and end all. It's not held me back except for maybe in my mid twenties when i had to work twice as hard as someone with a bit of paper

Matt - you fail as a chav. Good effort though. The house must be on an estate of many other new build - not just a new build.
And for no other reason than they are my own rules, a Breitling or Ball watch is a chav fail - a bit too classy.

Going back to the first question, I dont really like Rolex any more. I always fancied one, but on the rare occasion I find myself in the local pub I often see 20 something mittmops with "18k GMTs" on.

I saw the most amazing bit of windsurfing I have seen in "real life" two weeks ago - the guy must have been a pro. The most awesome loops and his wave sailing was mind blowing. Can do the basics myself but pretty cr4p. Got narked with all the kit you need!
We had a little 17ft sailing dinghy - sold it when we finally admitted we are cr4p sailors (we crashed it into some trees)!

On a serious note, I don't get the anti-new build estate thinking. All houses were new at some point. The cost of property these days makes most houses a compromise unless you are incredibly wealthy.
Yes we could afford something smaller in the country, but factors such as Broadband speed (I work from home), close to mainline rail station, close to good schools, amenities, near children of similar age to ours, and having a larger house(to make more mess) are factors that outweigh living in the country.
I just don't get the snobbery.

Matt - actually I think it might be a bit of a crap criteria. Anyone know St Georges Hill in Weybridge? Well I'd call that an estate containing many new builds...!

Oh and the sum total "given" to me by my parents while at Uni? £ZERO. They were ultra skint then so I was on my own. Many others are the same.
Rick Steins fish and chips are actually not expensive. Nor is the Cafe or Bistro. The Restaurant is pricey but very good - only the customers are a bit sniffy at times.
We have some amazing places to eat down here - with and without the coveted Michelin stars.

What I am interested in is the image such a watch portrays..
I'm not buying it or another high end watch for the image.. I'm buying it because I appreciate the engineering, design and downright precision and uniqueness. I'm not interested in waving it about, but I am interested in it being part of my daily life. Something to admire and enjoy..for me.
I'd appreciate the feedback from other Rolex owners (those who wear them often) on how they are perceived when people spot them?
