Yeah, and doesn't even have the decency to come back to that thread and apologise. Strums up a load of drama and accusations, bangs on about his "family" wealth and then just walks off - Matt you seriously lack *****.

Seems like a contradiction - if you are not buying it for the image who cares how other people perveive it? Buy something you like, not something you think other people will like. (I have a Submariner 50th anniv edition) To be honest never notice anyone looking at it, if that helps to answer your question....
Someone used the word 'covet' earlier on and I agree that I'm not here to covet it or show it off.
Just like I don't show off my other expensive items. But this item will be on continual show and if people don't look twice then fair enough. I'm happy with that type of visibility for it.
End of the day all my other material possessions are mine to enjoy. I'm certainly not going to list them out on here.
But my concern is that some of the residue of ownership will indeed come across like that.
Interesting thread though, as some people say it won't get noticed, yet a small minority certainly take 'offence' to such a show of expense over a watch.... I just wonder whether they are the type to give the finger to the driver of a DBS that sails past...

Alan, I bought myself a Breitling recently. It's a BIG watch, but I love it. It's one of those OMFG how big is that looks when people see it. I got absolutely battered by my mates for it, but all in good jest.
Some of them earn good money, some of them don't, I didn't get one nasty comment about it, most of them couldn't understand spending so much on a watch, but were comfortable with the choice that I made. In fact I rather enjoyed the attention. However it was no different to the stick people get walking in with a new pair of flashy trainers or the like.
IMO buy what you want to buy, if people see it then fine, if they comment then fine, if they show interest, then show it to them. Shoving it under peoples noses is different.

I can't believe the double standards of some people. So many times in the few years Ive been a member of this forum I have seen countless ***** waving 'look at my car', 'look at my watch', 'look at my mahoosive house', 'how much do you earn' and even 'which dishwasher/washing machine/cooker should I get' threads posted up but now to buy something that you want beit clothes (designer or otherwise), a watch and/or a nice car can be seen as chavvy, crass and the ultimate in poor taste.
Get a grip!
As Nat said, I buy clothes that I stumble upon in shops and I buy other items because I fancy them and for no one else other than me.
I dont see the point in worrying what other people think about you or what you wear/own, just get on and do what you want.

I know people who have bought a Rolex watch and they are unsure of the model they have chosen.
I dont expect everyone to know the series number and history or ins and outs of the model....but if you have gone to the expense of buy a Rolex GMT MasterII, and you call it a GMT Masters.....your a t1t.
Hope your reading this Phil.
I have also met a guy who brought me his DateJust for repair complaining that it keeps stopping....." When I dont wear it for a while, it stops " he explained.
I thought he was winding me up (excuse the pun) but he was serious.
Some people dont deserve to wear a Rolex watch, simple as that.

Well that's how I buy clothes too - but I couldn't give two tosses about what the label is - be it Howies, Finisterre, White Stuff, Church, Bolle, Merrell, Berghaus, cycle stuff, TM Lewin, non branded, whatever - I just buy it because I like it. I check the quality of material and stitching to make sure it'll probably last a while and that's about it. Oh and it MUST have no obvious external label.
I hate clothes shopping so it's a rapid "in, buy, out" then home.
I hate clothes shopping so it's a rapid "in, buy, out" then home.
As for Howies - they are so far up their own **** they can see daylight out of their nostrils.
And I speak from experience - I grant you that their base layers are the very best I have come across - but the clothes are painfully surfer trendy (and pretty average to low quality) and the jackets are a joke. My Cross jacket was replaced free of charge three times due to quality failures. And get this - it was free to start with due to a massive ****-up elsewhere. They sold a £230 taped seam ventile waterproof jacket that turned out was mis-labelled as waterproof because it wasn't. The catalogue was full of the brilliant traditional and modern technologies that made a jacket to go up Everest. It wouldn't even get you to Sainsbury on a damp Monday. Money back on that, God knows how they are still in business.
Oh yes, the catalogues are lovely, with great stories of taking on Levi (I am sure you loved that - the ultimate anti-brand - ironically making it the ultimate brand).
As for no external label - that will be Berghaus out then (and I do think Berghaus are the real deal when it comes to outdoor wear), and Merrell and pretty much everything you list except for Howies!

It's a joy having the burden of image lifted. Most grow out of it by the time they are about 30. Not half of SN though...
A typical chav (with a few quid) shopping list:
Rolex/Tag/whatever plus other jewellery
BMW/Audi/Rally rep car
TV over 37"
New (or newish) build house in an anytown housing estate (of course all vehementy deny they live on an estate - after all their house has a DOUBLE garage, next doors only has a single...) near a city - to try and make it seem posh.
Naff but expensive resort type holidays in places like Florida.
Like football
Can't tell the difference between a New World and a classic wine without reading the label
Have or want to have a nasty breed of dog
Read the Express or Daily Mail but often get a broadsheet to pretend they are posh.
No degree or higher education "cos it dun't matter" Extreme anti higher education views.
ANY clothing with a car/rally brand on it.
I'm sure some more will come up...

I'm sure some more will come up...
Rolex/Tag/whatever - Tag Monza check (and a Breitling, a Locman and soon to inherit Hublot when my friend dies in an 'accident')
BMW/Audi/Rally rep car - BMW, Suzuki (they are class leading in 1600 class in Rallies), GT3
TV over 37" - oh yes, 46in
New (or newish) build house in an anytown housing estate (of course all vehementy deny they live on an estate - after all their house has a DOUBLE garage, next doors only has a single...) near a city - to try and make it seem posh - near posh city but datestone indicates it was originally built in 1749
Naff but expensive resort type holidays in places like Florida - villa in Pollensa, custom holidays in US and Australia
Like football - not that fussed about sport. Like cycling.
Can't tell the difference between a New World and a classic wine without reading the label - probably, but I have loved Le Pin since it was 'discovered' in the 1984 vintage and I bought a case for £7.50 a bottle (probably worth £400plus now)
Have or want to have a nasty breed of dog - we have a large, licky labrador
Read the Express or Daily Mail but often get a broadsheet to pretend they are posh - I use the Daily Mail for amusement value when given it free on aeroplane - daily I read rely on the BBC
No degree or higher education "cos it dun't matter" Extreme anti higher education views - I fail there, although it was a Redbrick
ANY clothing with a car/rally brand on it - one of my kids had a Subaru baby grow?
Does this make me Old world chav?
I think you have missed an important distinction - nouveau riche tend to spend money on everything except their shoes.

New (or newish) build house in an anytown housing estate (of course all vehementy deny they live on an estate - after all their house has a DOUBLE garage, next doors only has a single...) near a city - to try and make it seem posh. - 15 miles to the nearest City (Liverpool) its not a nice town, but its a nice 1979 House with 10 miles of fields behind it, no houses opposite

Read the Express or Daily Mail but often get a broadsheet to pretend they are posh. Dont bother with papers, use the Internet and TV for 'news'
No degree or higher education "cos it dun't matter" Extreme anti higher education views. left school at 16 with a full time job, & 2 O levels, now Technical Director
ANY clothing with a car/rally brand on it. - Nope, I tend to buy clothes that I like the look and feel of, I have no idea what labels are on them if any

Mattee has fooked off again, this time I believe for good, people are stalking him, and reading posts on other forums explaining the opposite to what he types on here, apparently.

I personally would sell the watch and re-purchase another.

NAT SAID: Blag - fake or blag - cut n shut parts/cases?
I've found his individual parts are ok but his complete watches are a "little suspect".
I SAID: Too many people getting ripped off lately, with Rolex diamond faces and bezels.
The majority of people dont know what they are buying, but cover themselves by cross referancing serial numbers to see if the watch is genuine, which it will be, or at least most of it.
But faces/bezels/bracelets/crystals and in some extreme cases movements can be fake.

Matteeboy is a complete fool and continues to prove it thread afer thread. Yet again being the catalyst of ruining a good thread. As a brietling and newly vintage oyster owner (after its service) I was interested in this topic and once again he highjacks and makes a pr1ck of himself.
I hope his wife ***** the milkman.

Ok, here is one for yoza and nat. If you were only allowed to have ONE watch for the next 10 years which one would it be?
You would have to get rid off all your other watches. But you would be allowed one other safety watch ie a cheap 30 quid watch if you were going somewhere really rough, working on the car etc.
So which watch and why?
All this talk of watches has got me fancying a new one.....
