Considering how technology has moved on over last 40yrs why haven't we / can't we get back there?
Go to the photography section and ask them why there are no stars
Though I think it has something to do with exposure to the very bright mass called the sun in our solar system and no atmosphere

The shadows are cast to the left in the craters because the sun isnt reaching it (its hitting the higher side as the sun is on the left) the lander on the other hand is on level ground so the shadow is correct (along with the shadows of the craters which are also correct )

Also moondust is quite reflective, and we cannot really establish exactly how tall or short the mountains are

The sun is at a low angle above the horizon on the left, it would be normal for the left side of the craters to be in shadow i would think.

Tony, I'd agree with you, but there is nothing, not even a rock outcrop with the shadow to the right in that pic. Some of those mounds are not craters either. Under light you would see the cliffs.

Isnt all of that and all of the other Photography experts dissing of the NASA images all based upon what they know about how light works on Earth ?

Without going to the Moon and taking photographs no one will ever know for definate apart from those who took the pictures in the first place

If the pictures are all fake, then why didnt NASA photoshop them to show shadows etc as they would know from how things are lit on Earth, and how all the photography experts are saying they should be lit

Simon, most of those are impact craters (if not all) so very little residue build up around them (especially with no atmosphere), so that looks perfectly feasable

So how come, in order to leave the Earth, we need a Saturn V rocket the size of the Empire State Building containing gazillion (US) gallons of kerosene and liquid oxygen - and yet to escape the moon, albeit with only one sixth of the gravity of Earth, you just need something the size (and consistency) of a caravan???

Seems more fishy than a fish market!

if you look to the right of the remains of the LEM, there are a few objects casting a shadow to the right

arent the mountains (as u call them) actually craters so the shadow is to the right, the same as the lander?

Imagine having one of those, and mock main fuel tank and boosters, standing vertically in your back garden.

Cool

The three main problems with the conspiracy theory is that

1) The Russians would certainly have blown the whistle

2) Too many people would have been involved to keep it quiet (it's quite telling that not a single person from within program has said it was faked, all accusations are from cranks and people not involved)

3) All the geologists who have examined the rocks brought back would quickly deduce they were fakes.

The rest about photos, moon dust, Van Allen belts, etc. is just ridiculous and people not understanding/believing how it works.

Poeple just love a conspiracy!

Even if the Russians could have been persuaded to keep quiet about an alleged hoax, there's no way the French (who were also monitoring the missions closely) would have

Just reading 'Rocket Men' by Craig Nelson which details the whole of the mission and everything that led up to it. Thoroughly recommend it for anyone who's interested in Apollo 11 and what it took to get a man to land on the moon.

Les,

If you are referring to the "one sixth", then the Lunar Caravan is far less than a sixth the size of a Saturn V, indeed it is less than a 36th (assuming some inverse square law applies) - so where do they hide enough fuel to escape the moon?

There is only the top half of the caravan available for ascent, and it will contain quite a few extra pounds of rocks as well as the astronauts and the fuel.

And Nat21's "Lunar Escape System" seems even more unbelievable - that is one heck of an armchair

I am seriously interested in how it works!

Cool

The LM needed much less than the complete Saturn V because it had two things less to do...

It only had to escape 1/6 gravity

It had a very small mass to move.

You do not need 1/6 of the fuel of the Saturn V to move it and escape, you need much less.

The Saturn V, if complete, would have needed 1/6 of it's fuel load to escape the Moon, but not the LM.

It doesn't have to fly through any air either, so no air resistance.
