What's the word I'm thinking of? You know, the one which means that two words don't go together...

i.e. "happily" & "married"

Now we have "moderator" & "professionalism"

Why do you have to wait for a post to be reported. Some people don't like running to teacher!

As a volunteer, I personally (can't speak for all the mods) don't feel compelled to sift through every single post on every single thread in every single forum to make sure that everything is ok. Its just not workable, and creating potentially unnecessary work for myself.

Much as some people would like a policeman at each end of every residential street acting on every single infringement they see and hear. The reality is, of the very few that are on the street, they only react to calls or what they may see in passing that poses a serious issue.

It gives qualifiers for problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude)

I don't see a thread in the wrong forum as fitting any of those, do you?

As for the smug smilie, not needed.

Those in brackets are just examples, I suppose it could be amended to include every single item that qualifies as a problamatic post/thread or maybe for sakes of conciseness an "etc."

Or do I abandon any hope of initiative?

I suppose I should, then I can moderate this place like an overzealous traffic warden.

As for the smilie, are you serious? Because I'm not, and I don't think you are either, because this thread isn't in the policy section, and hence just seen as banter

Dont take this the wrong way Ali BUT you have made yourself look a bit of a tawt on this thread.

I'm sure you are having a bit of fun but maybe when you are a mod you have to be more careful about what you write.

With respect Chop, maybe I have took it the wrong way, but what do you want from me?

Am I not allowed to moderate post whilst drunk? (faux pas, as I didn't do any moderating last night, I just posted )
Am I not allowed to have any fun?
Am I not allowed to be myself?

To be frank about the reality of this: I was a **** before I was a mod and I'll be damned as hell if I'm going to change that, my humour nor my drinking habits for a tin pot internet forum. OK tin pot is probably the wrong word here, but on the grand scale of things in life, Scoobynet is of miniscule importance or worth to me when compared to my job, my family, friends and personal well being.

Mods, aren't Politicians, they are not Police, nor any form of upstanding public authoritrian figures. There is no requirement for us to to act whiter than white and suck up to the electorate for the sakes of percieved public image.

Although having said that, acting like a white than white automaton may leave me less open to any flack. Or maybe not, given the views of our Owellian inspired detractors

Now if this role gave me the opertunity to say, test drive an F1 car, be a court Judge to slam scum in prison for "life". A parole officer, or hell, Prime Minister. I may just behave differently. The weighting of value of those positions would be worthwhile to make me consider things differently.

Everyone else on here harps along the lines about saying "free speech I can say what I want because I can". Why should it be different for myself (so long as its within forum rules )? Afterall, I am still a user of this forum.

If everyone (by that, I mean majority, not the vocal minority from the usual faces) thinks I should change, remove my humour, moderate post whilst sober, and not be allowed to express my own thoughts or opinions, then I quit.

If it wasn't such a rainy dull weekend, I wouldn't be on here driviling this load of self righteous tosh anyway....The weather has alot to answer for in all of this.

Really good retort.

I agree with pretty much everything you say there. For the record I wasn't calling you tawt, I was simply saying that maybe you didn't help yourself in the thread.

It is difficult being a mod and I do think there are topics and conversations where your opinion can be taken the wrong way just because you are a mod. Its very unfortunate but inevitable.

Don't worry about it, no offence was taken anyway.

The most difficult thing on here is the "damned if you do damned if you don't" scienarios that so often spring up.

Its impossible to keep everyone happy, although dare I say that sometimes its the unhappy campers that give this place its spark.

Glad none was taken. I'm not here to always bash the mods or lobby, that doesnt get anyone anywhere.

I'm sure that all those that do complain (including me) would make a **** up of SN if they were in charge. I only ever try and make my point, be helpful to other users on the subjects I know about, have a laugh, look at **** (thus my dislike of the adult forum )and most importantly stay away from topics that I have either, no interest in or nothing positive to say.

Sometimes making a point is taken as a dig at either the mods or lobby, then its to easy to escalate the topic into a row/attack which isnt helpful in the long run.

Cheers,

Chop

I see you have indeed quit Ali?

To be honest when I was reading this thread I got the impression that perhaps you were a little fed up with being a mod. At least you can post what you like now

On a serious note, I'll give my take on it.

We don't necessarily sit and wait for something to be reported, but it is helpful, if someone notices something 'wrong', they report it, as we could have missed it.

Like Ali, I only have so much time on here, and as a paid up member first, I want to spend at least some of my time enjoying the place like the rest of you, and not just sitting for hours going through each thread/section. As I said earlier, I tend to stick to NSR (Stu knows this from when we signed up), but I do have a quick scan elsewhere. If something was really in the wrong place, I'd move it, but alot is borderline, or may get a quicker response elsewhere, so I'd be inclined to leave it be. This generally isn't a huge problem tbh, it's the odd time something gets moved, a fuss kicks off.

In fairness to mods more inclined to move things to the correct place, they are doing what they believe is right, primarily to keep things tidy. Of course, even if something gets moved, other stuff, possibly less obvious or just overlooked may remain.

I don't see it as running to teacher though, it's private, nobody other than us knows something has been rtm'd, so it's not as if the general community know someone has grassed them up so to speak. It's more of a helping hand, at times than telling on people.

On occassion, some people just like to have a moan though.
