right, still waiting to hear back from zen but...

rcm will do the modified 12mm pump for £247.50 + vat on 5 people buying = saves £27.50

mark at lateral is in the process of road testing his modified 12mm pumps and reckons 2 weeks before any issues are sorted but says he will do them for a good price.

thoughts ???

are the RCM pumps Cosworth versions?

I'll need two 12mm pumps so would eight people make a difference to the RCM price?

Any idea on the specs of Mark's pumps and issues he is currently experiencing...bit strange as there are no issues with 12mm pumps I'm aware of?

10% discount is good but he's certainly not bending over backwards for us @ that price.

But as Tescos say, every little helps & I need a pump so unless they can be sourced cheaper from a different supplier I'll probably run with this anyway.

Did he mention a price for shipping at all?

Will wait until all the prices are in before placing an order anyway.

i think mark said he was having to sort out high oil pressure issues at present and thinks that after road testing, two weeks and the modified pumps should be ready.

more the merrier as they say so jump on board people and get a top bit of kit for a decent price.

agree with above, will wait until numbers are confirmed and prices are in before making a final decision.

The 12mm pumps are designed for the extra oil feed required for the twin Avcs. There is no need at all to fit a 12mm pump on a car that is perfectly happy on a 10mm oil pump.

Most people think that because it is bigger, it must be better, but if the original pump is capable:- more than capable in fact, at 9 galls per minute delivery rate [ you have about 1 gal in the sump ] so the oil goes all around the engine 9 times in a minute at 4000 rpm ] on a 10mm pump.

^^David, that's why I asked what "high oil pressure issues" Mark is experiencing because as far as I am aware there are none, it's just a larger rotor ...I've a set of 05 JDM heads for my new build which is why I need a 12mm pump.

Marks problem was diagnosed as too much oil pressure, but l do not know the cause, or the effect. Best to ask him to elaborate.

Even so, the 05 jdm heads are single avcs and are perfectly happy on a 10 mm pump

The 12mm pumps are original fit on hatchback STi with twin AVCS.

^^ that sounds as though he is developing a totally new oil pump...

I was under the impression that it was advisable to run all AVCS heads with 12mm pumps...particularly the MY05 with the larger exhaust valves?

The reason I'm getting higher pressure, is totally down to getting the right combination of internal parts on the new test pump. This pump no longer uses the standard piston type relief valve, because I have yet to find one that isn't still prone to jamming/sticking.

I have run with this pump design in the "Lateral" car for over a year, but never had the time to fine tune it to a point where I was happy to sell it, but there is NO WAY it will ever stick, or jam.

The 12mm pump has been around for about two years now, so not just for the later '08 cars.

The intention is to offer the pumps in 10, 11, & 12mm, depending on application.


I am lead to believe that the Cosworth pump retains the original pressure relief valve, but I haven't stripped, and checked one myself.

For obvious reasons, I won't offer the pumps until I'm happy the're right.

Higher oil pressure and higher oil volume mean more energy required to turn the pump, which means loss of power.

I would agree that overly high pressure will sap power, and if it's a choice between oil system reliability, and losing a little power, I know which I would choose.

The oil pressure my car runs is totally irrelevant, because it's the first time I've tested the internals on a 12mm, and we needed a bench mark.

WRC cars depending upon the year and model, run between 4 bar and 5.5 bar, No more than that. AND some models can run up to 3.5 bar boost...............

I maintain, There is no need for high oil pressure 6 bar is as much as I would spec for any Subaru turbo engine.

I don't think anyone is arguing with you. I'm not trying to achieve higher pressure, it's just a result of the test pump on my car. The aim is 5.5 - 6 bar above 3000rpm when hot.

The higher flowing pumps will also work well with oil squirters, and on big power engines, running bigger bearing clearances.

WRC cars don't use bore squirters either. The energy required to force the piston down against an upwards pressure of up to 5.5 bar is considered an unnecessary drag.

Prodrive say that, not me, but you can see their logic.
