So first half would be like TopGear of old with the likes of William Woolard and Chris Goffey, the second half like what it is now.

After all, who really wants to see a presenter having fun in a car they most probably could never afford, or doing a driving adventure they would never undertake themselves? Its purely fantasy and of no use in the real world.
I have the answer for you........ if you want that sort of car info please don't watch Top Gear it's not that type of programme

The original format:
YouTube - Old Top Gear 1986 Episode 1 1/3

The first of the "new" format (how empty is that studio!)
YouTube - The first Top Gear episode - Part one

Have to say watching the first episode again of the "new" format looks a little more factual. I think Topgear of late have moved too far from this format.

Sarcasm aside, buy Autocar or What Car for tedious reviews of boring motors if you need to buy one, Top Gear for Supercars and smartarse middle aged blokes arsing about in cars.

They are becoming parodies of themselves. And I love the way Hammond is copying May's hairstyle - albeit with more Farah flicks!! Still I love watching his hair grow though every week!

I'd blend in a few more 'proper' drivers maybe, and maybe ease in some new faces, but, as a brand and as a product its never been more saleable or popular. Ratings dont lie even if the changes over the years has alienated a small petrol-head percentage.

That last episode dragged though - they clearly had to milk and eke out everything as the budgets were exhausted. Clarkson's pro motoring comments go a long way in my book though - blunt common sense is great to hear!

That first episode in 2002 looks horrid. The audience (if thats what you call a dozen car geeks in tweed jackets) are taking amongst themselves and don't look interested in the production of the program

Nah, if Topgear went to that again (especially with that fat **** Jason), I woul stop watching. Fine as it is but needs a little injection of reality with facts/everyday cars for me.

I'd be happy with that.

That is what I mean. Its great they're testing exotic cars and doing the odd silly challenges, but also include just a little bit more of the stuff that is relevant for the average joe public, eg, more reviews of more mainstream cars, tyre tests, consumer stuff, relevant motoring news, used mainstream/performance car buying guides etc.

Yeah and if Jezza and Hamster wanna fart **** about, thats ok as May has done consumer advice on TG before.

One thing I'm not to keen on currently is the News section. It did used to be quite factural about new and exciting things. It does seem apparent they haven't anything to talk about so I call it the 10 minute banter sesh now

Certainly not gonna stop watching it though, but hopefully for the winter series they'll make a couple tweeks on current things whilst introducing some of the old 2003-2006 stuff back in.

I wonder why they dont repeat the very first series of this format that had Jason Daw in it rather than James May. I quite like Used car roadshow....even though he's a fat annoying tw@t

Comedy

It's the best we've got and the only program that I sky+ and watch from standard channels (other than F1). I think the chaps work hard enough to push the boundaries of what the BBC will allow - keep at it I say.

It would be nice if we have another series like Top Gear to fill the gaps between shows / seasons, perhaps more like the old format. I miss the old reviews - but it's all good.

Any yep, you could tell the budget has been exhausted for the last show - happens every time.

I get the impression that the series was better before Hamster's crash. There was more content. Now you get features, IMO, that goes on a little bit too long. Still an entertaining show though.
