Did it already come with the mounting bar welded to the top... or did you get that fabricated/welded at a later date? What make is that IC - it's very deep (loads of volume/inner surface area).

It's the Hyperflow MONSTER intercooler for the MY01-05 Impreza. You can buy yhe cooler with or with out the mounting bar at the top but with the 2 being the same price you may as well get it with and make it work or if you can't then cut it off and you have lost nothing. It is a massive cooler at : 760 x 250 x 114 [mm] and works very very well.

Ah, so that's why it's called 'Monster' - at least the marketing is appropriate then.

Does it weigh a lot? I have the regular MY97-00 Hyperflow and the core is pretty heavy, so god knows what the Monster weighs?!

I'm also running V4 heads on a 2.35 with a GT35R...My heads we're ported by SMG with 1 piece valves and DH22 cams...It made 570bhp @ 1.85 bar on plain V-Power..

joz8968 it weighs what you would expect for a solid quality bit of kit.

Thing is you'd only ever fit the Monster if you wanted 500 to 600+ anyway... which more than makes up for its dent to the power/weight ratio lol

Guinness i have still not decided wether or not to port and change the valve train on my V4 heads or go for some later heads. still weighing it all up as well as being on the big save to do it as well as swop my engine management.

Perdonally I would swap to ported AVCS heads and it will be cheaper than cossy heads

What is involved in the above swop: engine managment, intake manifold, ect??

Hi my sons car has 604 hp from a gt35 on straight v power he is using modified sti heads with variable cam timing and solaris ecu, standard entry intake, standard top feed fuel rails, still has aircon it makes that at 2 bar on a 2.5 the heads are well worked with cosworth cams but they are standard late sti heads with some porting/ect got to be cheaper than cosworth heads and obviously do the job,

That intercooler looks massive!

Bar and Plate?

I would have fitted a Hybrid GT2 spec, much smaller unit and light too (tube and fin). Good enough for competition cars running 700bhp+

Yes it is bar and plate but seems to work very well. The preshure drop on this intercooler is about the best i have seen and another major factor in buying this was the cost, lets just say i could not go wrong.

Thanks for the reply mate, i take it your son has a late Impreza with it haveing top feed fule rails and the standard intake manifold fitting the ACVS heads. With mine being a GC8 Impreza i take it i would need to change to ACVS heads, late intake manifold, late fuel rails, ACVS compatible engine loom and an engine managment system that would run it all. Sounds like a few penny's worth. Haveing said that it would be the same with the cosworth heads but not as much cost for the heads the selfs. Dose any one know of a proven set up that works to get the V4 heads flowing well enugh for say 650bhp??

V4 ported heads, new valvetrain, billet cosworth/kelford cams optionally converted to later style shimless buckets.

650hp capable heads, done!

AVCS heads are a better starting point though. But in this case craig would have to rework lots of stuff to manage it.

Same with P2.

I bought a complete STI4 engine with a bottom end issue for £450. It was a no brainer. Not only did I get the heads but I also got everything else I'll need to build the engine.

The only thing is I ordered the S6GP thiniking that we were going to use AVCS heads and have a bespoke wiring loom. Where as now an S6pnp would be perfect, never mind.

I have a used set of RCM cam pulleys for v4 heads if you're interested, for sale on behalf of a customer.
