same thing as speeding in built up areas, you could be the best driver in the world but you can never predict what other people will do.

of course everyone speeds but there is a big difference when you are 36mph over a 60mph limit.
What happens if?? lol this is crazy if you used what happens if everywere in ur life you will not get far, U could say im going out tonight then say what happens if this and that happens, lol by the sounds of it u should be driving a scooby

My experience- I got caught doing 103 in a 60 in sunny Wales. Long story cut short i got banned for 28 days and fined £235. I had no previous convictions in 12 years. There was a guy who went in before me, he was doing 91 in a 60 and got 56 days. Although i was told different circumstances to mine.

96 in a 60?

I'd get yourself a bus time-table if I was you. You'll likely need it.

plus a charge of dangerous driving.

don't understand why people are willing to risk the lives of everyone else on the road.
Is there an unwritten SN rule that every thread like this has to have some holier than thou poster turn up and write stuff like this?

What 'kind of speed' in your obviously expert opinion of the case in question would be safe then?

in ting tongs defence i think his emphasis was more on the type of road the speeding was done on. i for one am guilty of a heavy right foot at any given opportunity as is phil (ting tong). we all own scoobys so i think with regards to a love of power and speed we are all guilty at times. phil would also agree with he has been caught speeding on the M6 at triple figures but at night/ early morning, and duly went to court for his wrong doing. just a personal opinion but if people are going to post threads then you are going to get a range of opinions back your way and some may not be as easy to bare as others. thats just the way it is. anyway good luck with the dilemma bud and i hope you get the best possible outcome, even if it only slows you down for a bit!!.

So tingtong was done for speeding at 100+ mph on a motorway and he has the nerve to give Connor a hard time on this thread

No where in any of Connors postings did he give the road, road conditions, time of day, or how busy the road was.

What really REALLY pi55es me of with these type of threads is that Connor was asking for specific advice regards his likely points, and then all these do-gooders always appear out of the woodwork tut tutting and waving fingers.
This is a forum for perfrormance car enthusiasts for christ sakes, everyone makes mistakes, even tingtong it appears.

id say upto 6 points

the tossers who are claiming speed kills blah blah blah

its the use of speed in the wrong times thats dangerous,,,,, ive done 150mph in germany and not had a accident nor killed someone running out on me and ive even done 72mph before on our motorways,,,,, maybe even more

my car can stop alot quicker and handle alot better than a ford corsair of the 1970's where the 70mph limit come into play,,,, so i would say its alot less dangerous than before

**** would i even do 70mph in a old rover or austin maxi on the M1

A Study shown that people driving at 85mph are the safest according to statistics its called the 85th percentile!

If we had roads like the autobahn then it could prove to be even safer as the german autobahns statisticly have lower accident / death rate even though our speed limit is lower!

Speed doesnt kill! its lack of awareness, skill and bad attitude towards other motorists and motoring in general that is the problem.

Furthermore The council are just as much to blame as anyone for the sheer **** poor quality of most of the uk roads.
Inadequate lighting, poor thought out traffic calming measures, terrible bodged road surfaces and markings contribute to more accidents I would have thought!

I got caught doing 96 over the dornoch firth I think it was. It was a clear night with no other cars around.

Got 3 points and £150

Went to Dornoch Sherrif Court to make my apologies etc. as I was told this would be more in my favour. It was a great day out as my case was 2nd last to be called and there were all sorts of nutters in before me!

that is utter crap.

you could be doing the speed limit in a 60 or a 50 road and say to someone:
what happens if someone decides to cross the road ?

what happens if someone is riding a horse ?

what happens if someone is overtaking a tractor coming the other way ?

same thing!! you would brake and try and avoid. (my answer is they best watch out )

no one in there right mind can say they have never gone fast in their life. everyone is guilty of it.

not all of us speed all the time. i dont but i know i have done and on some occasions it happens. (like last sunday, that was fun though).

he got caught doing 96 in a 60 so he will do the right thing and take it on the chin.

really annoys me that people slate this when no one is perfect and everyone does it. if you own a scooby and you drive like a fairy then good on you! just remember not everyone is like you!

This is a myth really as different Police forces have different rules regarding this. I was pulled over near Blackpool on the motorway not so long ago and was warned about my speed. I was doing 84MPH average and was told if that had been 85MPH I would have gotten 3 points. This does not coin-side the 10% +1 rule and the traffic cop told me this as he said different forces have different rules.

What kind of road were you on, national speed limit A/B road I guess? Which could mean you dont have as much leeway in what speed is acceptable.

Different circumstances mean different outcomes. If your on a motorway at night say, your points/fine will be less, but if your in a built up area, its obviously going to be more severe. So everyone is just guessing until you find out the outcome.

With a ban, yes you need to resit your test.

Connor, I would go to the court hearing in person rather than plea by letter. It shows you are taking the offence seriously and will allow you to appeal to the magistrate's better nature for leniency directly. Maybe the difference between a ban and a fine/points.

Definately attend the court proceedings, dress smart, be suitably humble and apologetic and keep your fingers crossed.

You will get a summons and will have the option of attending or submitting your plea by letter.

As above dress smart, apologise and take a letter from your employer stating if you lose your licence you lose your job. Courts sound like scary places, but you will be fine if you just follow the procedures as instructed and be poilte. Best of luck.

You do get a choice to plead guilty by post, but i dont recommend it. Looks alot better if you turn up, thats if they end up summoning you to court. It shows your taking it seriously etc etc. Oh and i didnt have to resit my test after my ban. Im assuming if its an automatic ban like in my case you dont resit your test. But if if they ban you under the totting up procedure then you do.

not sure it would aply but you could ask to take the drivers awreness course which you cannot fail
Its clasroom based at end of 1st day you go out in a car with an instructer get marked out of 100 then more classroom stuff then beat previous days score then its dealt with no points no fine

just approx £160 for the course.

Tbh its really good interesting and you get to see some really bad clowns on the road they will make your crime look tame!

after the course you cant get in trouble for 3 years or be severely dealt with!

well they normally give this instead of any other punishment!

so if you do go on it u shouldnt have any other penalties I think you can request it instead of points if you havent been on it before and have a clean licence or minor points

but I would try and find out more I were you mate you have nothing more to loose by finding out here is some infor on what it all intailshttps://www.drivetechsas.com/

but Im not sure if it applies to scotland or if you would be eligable

Was it a hand held/ tripod mounted LTi 20/20? ...pretty unusual for plod to be using this at 'night' ...they're not that reliable during the day, let alone with headlights blazing at them.

Did he show you the reading? ...or just jot the speed down on the NIP?
