Where as back in 2006 when I had turned 22 and had my mint looking red classic (you remember it ), people probably had thoughts of "daddies car" or "probably not insured properly". But you see unlike most 22 year olds, I had a mortgage and responsibilities, so preferred to spend my money on the Scoob and insuring/maintaining it, not on drugs or bitches.

Certainly suprised a few people when they got to know me, realising I had a boring warehouse job but chose to spend my spare money wisely.

My day will come again

P.S. Paul, what am I thinking about

I always find it intersting how quickly people make a judgement on appearence. If I ever need to buy something expensive ... car, new hifi, etc. I always tend to go to the smaller retailers where possible and dress down (shorts, old t-shirt, open shoes). How you are treated will very quickly give you an idea of what the stores customer service is like and whether they just want a quick sale or are genuinely passionate about their business.

I had a cabby once ask me what I drive, when I told him an Impreza, the look he gave me was filled with such venom that I thought he was going to stop the cab and ask me to get out.

Good for you although the topic was not started as I have anything against chavs at all. I know everyone is different and each to there own.

I was explaining that I am not chav just because I drive a Impreza and that I did not agree with people's stigma against subaru drivers. And it would appear many people share the same view.

Cheers for the feedback. But to put it in perspective, just because you buy a scooby does not mean you have to drive it like a nutter at every opportunity and I would personally not buy a subaru that had been ragged at every opportunity as you put it. Most people know they are a high performance cars so it proves nothing racing vectra's to the shops to pick your special brew.

Thats why I like my 09 hatch, its subtle and doesn't look like an Impreza. I say subtle, except for the honking great hole in the bonnet.

Turned up at a customers in it, and parked next to the MD's V6 Jag. He wondered how the hell a software engineer working for a small company afforded an 09 plate car

My boss hates me too, I am 1 of the 2 singles (everyone else has kids etc.) in my company and he hates that fact I drive the newest car in the car park. Haven't got the heart to tell him, the other single guy has just bought a 08 plate Leon FR 550

PS: The boss droves a 06 plate Golf plus with 92k miles which he just paid £6k for,

Im a Navigational Officer in the Merchant Navy working for a fairly well known ferry company in Scotland. On my first day I turned up on my ZX10 which was a good ice breaker. (due to a couple of the guys being into bikes) When they found out I drove the STI as well, a couple of them pulled the crap car card saying the interior was **** etc but soon shut up when I mentioned it was circa 450bhp so they have now gone from " oh no not another Impreza driver" to being quite interested in seeing it the next time I join the vessel when the car is back on the road after the next few modifications.

They were also amazed that I have never had any points on my licence.

shock horror --- people form an impression on you based on what car you drive !!!!!
I think the older you get the less of a toss you give

I am an 40yr old Professional, last year drove an MY00 Turbo classic -- this year -- wait for it a Silver Audi A4 TDI -- but I really coudn't give a fvck what people think

after all the familly car is a pikey classic -- Toyota Landcruiser (often filled with my 5 kids)

IMO if anyone is going to make a judgement about me because of the type of car I drive, they're not someone I want to know anyway.

I've had two incidents at our head office purely because of the car I drive...

1st of all in my classic someone made a complaint that i'd entered the site at a fast rate of knots and almost run somebody over - absolute rubbish. At the time the car had an afterburner vortex on which obviously someone took offence at - was that pi$$ed off by the complaint I made them check CCTV which proved that the complaint was a load of ***** because i never drive like a d!ck.

Secondly in my present WR blue blob fully stickered up jobbie - again same place. I parked it just outside the white lines on an end space as people have a tendency to not give a stuff when they open their doors and hit other people's property. Secondly there was a lot of resurfacing on the car park meaning that people were parking anywhere they could. Parked it up in the said spot whereby the gate security bod came stomping over almost giving himself a heart attack and promptly threatened to ban me from the site if i didn't park properly. Did he do this to anyone else? - did he *****. He quite obviously took exception to the car, pure and simple.

In addition i'm 38 years old and not a kid - no offence to younger scooby drivers.

In conclusion I agree with people on here -we are judged purely on the car. Unfortunately however it is a sad reality that there are many that do let us down though hence the image the car has. Yes mine is all stickered up, but I don't drive it like a c*ck and I am a rally and scooby enthusiast.

its worse when people at work slag the car off for its looks and do the jap crap jokes,,,,,,when your someone who knows there a ugly car and aint bothered about the comments

i HATE the look of the classic impreza and also hate the chav image of them,, but the car is a great car to drive they really are hence i still have it,,,,, that said i wont use it for a funeral

i also find even though i own a tuscan, bmw and a ***** pikey clio that i drive to work all the time that they always make stupid comments about the subaru

i enjoy driving fast cars,, i would get a evo which has a better image but they aint a better car to drive considering the extra cash i would need to buy one

If your employers expect you to go to client sites in a more suitable car then they should provide you with one.
