I agree with those who say that guilt is actually not the point here.
The principle of 'compassion' in the justice system is though.
I absolutely believe that compassion is an important in a grown up society, but I also think that common sense is also an important factor too. Therefore whilst it might well of been acceptable to the Scottish Justice Secreatry to release him on compassionate grounds, it beggars belief that he actually did it.
This is what you get when you elect socialists into a devolved government, the SNP were just looking for any excuse to stick 2 fingers up at London and Washington.
From what I understand he was being treated very compassionately within jail, this should of continued until he died. I'm sure there are far far more compelling cases for compassion than him.

A different perspective on the matter:
aangirfan: Police officer said that he planted the Lockerbie bomb timer fragment
Regardless of whether he is innocent or guilty, the question I have is why did he suddenly drop his plea for proving his innocence and exactly what kind of deal did the UK and US (and others) have to play to hide their dirty dealings?

But, PANAM...it's proven...didn't follow procedure. I have to deal with this BS every day, all day, where *OTHER* people don't follow procedure.
And then, we all look to the gummint for a solution. That "solution" to "protect" us is less freedom. Just look at the explosion of "CCTV" in England?

Seemed important to them that the plea was dropped.

All leads, at the time, led to Libyia. Micoscopic fragments of clothes, made and sold ONLY, in Malta. Circuit boards, traceable. Certain suitcases, "samsunite" or whatever, all of them all 1200 or so ever made sold in the ME, certain raidos, certain timers, only 20 ever made in Switzerland, sold to Liybians and Libiyan Govn't workers. One of them was the person convicted, and now being released.
