Unlke the complete untruth that Nesssie is, we do actually have something which lives in one of our lakes and nowhere else in the world.

It's crap, but it's unique

There was a postee who suggested TV wasn't Scottish;

Google John Logie Baird.

Ok the steam engine, wasn't invented by a Scot, but to make it practical, was "improved" to make it usable and efficient.

In terms of the "stock market" or "shares" look up John Law and Dutch East India Company. He went to France in the regin of Lewie the 14th (Louisiana etc).

In terms of insurance, I will need to look at that.

As for the Tikka masala...where did Scots get "masala" from?

I'm back!!!

Google Philo Farnsworth

Stock market - there were stock markets predating the Dutch East India company by at least three centuries (accepted it was the first company to be capitalised by tradeable stocks).

Insurance predates anything in Scotland by at least two thousand years. When I first moved to Scotland I worked for two of the big Insurers and I was suckered in to story that Insurance was invented in Scotland. It wasn't.

And Chicken Tikka Masala was invented in Glasgae at Shish Mahal - so they say.

Anyway all this Scotland/England thing is just like the Glasgow/Edinburgh thing in Scotland

I do like it when you get a sweaty going on about the Auld Alliance.

I always ask them if they mean the Auld Alliance where the French surrender monkeys sold the sweaties down the river.

That's usually enough to get them to revert to drunken threats of physical violence
