Lisa i never do it in a "you complete ****, how can you not know how to spell unnecessarliy spectrophotofluorometrically floccinaucinihilipilification", or at least that's never the intention. If i think i can crowbar something in, in a lighthearted way, without destroying a thread then i will; many times, especially on serious threads, i can let it go. But i'll take on board your comments.

What really pisses me off, is when people refuse to learn/accept/mend their ignorant ways. We all started out not knowing any better, but when youre shown the way, f*cking well take it! Wearing your continued ignorance on your sleeve like a badge of honour is stupid beyond words!

Poor spelling and grammar are a particular bugbear of mine, as has been well documented in the past.
Text speak (or L33t spk for those so inclined) really grates on me.
Everyone is capable of making errors, this is true; however the commonplace volume of errors must surely ring alarm bells!
If it is allowed to continue unchecked then that apathy will spread, therefore it is our duty to correct those who need it.
Another issue I have is with too much grammar, there are sentences above I have just read that are so full of punctuation it’s painful to read them; more so in that they were preaching (Markus et al).
To say that it is unimportant due to the content of the forum is merely deflecting the deeper issue, the Queen’s English is being diluted on a daily basis all of it’s own accord; so please do not apathetically allow it to die out.

I'm by no means an expert on grammar or spelling (i.e. nowhere near Tel's league!). However, I have to say that sometimes there are posts on this forum that make my head go 
. It makes my eyes bleed. I can't help it, it's just the way I am. Just as some people can't spell or get the hang of basic grammar.

I just typed a large rant about the poor English skills of the (worryingly) increasing number of people that are either on the forum or that I have to deal with everyday, but I deleted it.... because I've had a beer or two and it turned into a super-rant 
However...
My English language skills are pretty average/poor (not as bad as Oldsplice's parking skills if she's being watched
), but posts like this make me want to grab a trout and start slapping!
I AM ALSO WANTING SOME OF THESE ARCHES
CAN YOU LET ME NO WHEN THEY ARE READY

So.......been up the road have we? At least you didn't have to cut through the graveyard.
Mr OS heard the Scoob tonight and jumped up to look out of the window........he's never moved so fast! And as for my parking............you missed a good one tonight. It was soooooooooooo tight, and I got in first go!

Video evidence, or it didn't happen!
I dropped my friend back at his (my old) flat tonight as it was raining and he happened to be walking out of work as I drove to Apsley. I saw your car outside so I tried to make as much noise as possible as I left - I'm glad someone was paying attention! Next time I go to the flat I'll turn the anti-lag on, then we can see how fast Mr OS can really move

Some people are good at spelling/grammar, some aren't, simple. That can be for a number of reasons, someimes laziness, sometimes due to level of education, sometimes depending on if they're in a hurry, and I guess sometimes, some people just for the life of them can't get a good grasp of written language.
Whilst I appreciate it may annoy some people out there, not everyone writes at the same level, but if people are at least trying to make something legible, as opposed to writing in text speak for example, give them a break. Not everyone is perfect, or shares the same abilities.
Personally, I find it more annoying to see someone jump on another person, just because they have made a mistake. It's not an English lesson, and no matter how frusrating it may be to see these common mistakes, it doesn't really influence ones own life.

I agree with Lisa because I was brought up to believe that to pull someone up in public over the way they talk or write for that matter is just rank bad manners.
It is not necessary to embarrass someone over their mistakes. if a person has difficulty in spelling or grammar and someone feels they have to correct them in front of everyone else that can be not only embarrassing for the person concerned but also irritating for everyone else.
This is a place for discussion, not a school for learning English.

When i was at school we were not allowed to use calculators but now they can use the internet etc. School is too easy these days.
It was nearly impossible to cheat, you had to write all the answers on your rubber and if that was too small it was your arm
I bet if i went to school now i would get better results

If you were in a conversation and you accidentally pronounced a word incorrectly wouldn't you object to someone correcting you in front of everyone else? Isn't that just the same when someone makes a genuine grammatical error or mispells a word in a post? What the hell does that matter as long as you can understand it? Why should it be necessary to highlight it anyway?
Those who feel they must do that are setting themselves up as patronising or superior in some way and could even be seen to be playing the "one upmanship" game.

I understand the UK, well may be just Landan, ATMs now have "cockney rhyming slang" messages on the screen, like "saussages and mash" (Bangers and mash, or cabbage) and "fleet street" although I am not sure when "charlie sheen" became cockney slang.....but maybe this was all created in India?
