Yes i know what you mean, and maybe it's the warts and all telly coverage which exaggerates the action, but i can't think of another sport where it's so blatant. It's almost as if it's a rite of passage to being a proper footballer, to be able to spit "like a man". Nonsense. I've played all sorts of sports and not once have i ever had the need or ugre to gob all over the playing surface. It could be drastically reduced in football, if not eliminated. Thug behaviour breeds thug supporters.

Fairly ironic on Sky Sports News, they had coverage of the pitch invasions & were discussing how bad the violence was. Then cut to the add break, first advert was for the remake of "The Firm".

At least it was the fans fighting fans & not the biggest gang of hooligans ie the police beating random people up like what happened to our fans the other week.

Why wouldn't it have some effect then? How do you know there's no correlation between the aggressive actions seen on the pitch, and what some supporters go on to do, like they did last night? I'd like to hear your rationale.

I find it quite odd that someone would make a statement about people having a personal opinion
I hate the game to the extreme. The only thing I hate more are obsessive fans, and armchair fans.

Football is a secondary factor.

The violence is always there, its more being together with other like minded individuals that brings into view.

Whenever this happens the News usually reports two opposing sets of 'fans' fighting or rioting.

No they are two sets of thugs who like to fight and use football as a means of grouping them and us.

A true 'fan' wouldn't get involved in Pitch Invasions or riots

because the people who are involved in the scenes last night wouldn't take a blind bit of notice about that. They'd do it regardless. thousands of fans every weekend go a game and see players having 'discussions' with the ref yet they don't kick off. What about the tennis fans when super Mac was mouthing off to the umpire? They didn't start punching each other either. I think it's your dislike of football shining through and you're after anything to have a go.

Just saying how I find. I find men who live in this country and don't like football to be somewhat odd. Tends to come from not being good at sports when younger and thus the last pick in the playground. leads to some mental hangups which manifest themselves in later life.... maybe in the form of garish tattoos in an attempt to butch up somehow.

Rugby players spit, crickets spit, runners will spit.. in the context it's fine. To spit at somebody is despicable but not what we're on about as far as I'm aware.

Tiger Woods on the other hand.... shocking ! All over the place. So much so that he can tee off from as good greeny!

Seriously though, there are loads of active sports where players do not gob all over the place, so I am inclined to agree, spitting is not needed. Certainly not in the volumes that it happens.

Crickets spit ?

Football is this country has been the choice of sport for the under classes for years, under class people do underclass things, nothing you can do about it.

edit. FWIW i fooken hate football now, along with all its faggy crap that comes with it, and as a kid i used to love it, in fact i was even a damn good defender on the school team

On what are you basing your assumption that i don't like football?? Don't jump to conclusions. Yes, lots of people don't kick off when players get rowdy, but then it has only ever been a minority, the brainless sheep who WILL emulate their "heroes". Just because you don't think there's a link between arrogant over-hyped ***** on the field and the behaviour of a minority of cerebrally challenged scum, doesn't mean there isn't one. Some blokes will look for any excuse to have a brawl; i think football should do all it can not to give them the ammunition they're looking for while they're at the game.

Watch Ricky ponting... firing em out all over the place. He is an Aussie though so maybe that doesn't count.

Come on we know you and Snazy are not the sporty types. We've seen the girth you're carrying. I'm not sure f1 fan is the same but anyone who has F1 as their fave sport is probably about 8 stone wet through sporting some thick rimmed glasses and gets a semi on at the mention of G force.

Yes, you are probably right.
School was for learning social skills and getting an education for me, was I missing something then, not joining in kicking a lump of leather and rubber around the playground

I will stick to disliking the game.

As for the tattoo's............. who is that one married to a spicey girl? Beckham, thats it. What a saddo with all those tattoo's eh

SENIOR police officers have been told to explain why they prevented rival gangs of West Ham and Millwall fans from beating from each other to death last night.

Would the police stop this?
As violence flared at Upton Park, zoologists said riot police had no right to interfere with the natural process of evolution.

Experts have called for new guidelines that will allow football supporters to bang each other's skulls with baseball bats until the last retard standing finally clubs himself into oblivion.

Dr Tom Logan, of the Institute for Studies, said: "A full-on riot between West Ham and Millwall fans is a bit like Mother Nature's pruning shears.

"We do not intervene when a pride of lions takes down an antelope, or when rival baboons fight over who gets the biggest nuts.

"So when two sets of London football fans decide to have a fight, we should simply leave them be, while observing the awesome majesty of Darwin's genius."

It is believed the violence flared between the rival supporters after an argument over who would be the first to grow opposable thumbs.

West Ham fan, Wayne Hayes, said: "They was sayin' that one of 'em already 'ad fums and could use tools and evryfin'.

"And I was like, 'you fackin' *******s, my old dad nearly 'ad fums once, you callin' me a cant?'."

But Millwall fan, Nathan Muir, pointed frantically at a piece of wood, insisting: "Ee-ee! Ee-ee-ah-ah-oo-oo! Eeeeee! Eeeeee! Eeeeeeeee!"

Totally agree. Dont see too many people gobbing off the treadmills at the gym.
But then maybe thats what footballers do in place of tattoo's, macho and all that. Who knows. Dirty little *******.

put them all in a drained swimming pool,
Let them bring any weapons they fancy,
Let them go at it for as long as they like,
Last man standing is the winner.
Tickets start from 25 quid a go.

shame really, it doesn't take much to drag football into the gutter. and shocker, Millwall **** it up for everyone again. (not saying West Ham are blameless here, but Millwall have a bit of a habit for being a bloody pain in ther **** don't they?!)

Perfect example of stereotypes kicking in "Millwall **** it up for everyone again"

It was West Ham fans mainly to blame for what was going on in the ground they were the one's invading the pitch .

Fat Bald morons with Tats on the sides of their lower legs (the male version of a slag tag), I wish the police had battered the lot of them.

for the record I have a tat and I love football, so not anti either

not being funny mate, but they do have a terrible reputation and they don't seem that bothered about changing it.

ok, bit harsh maybe and yeah, bit of a stereotype but Millwall's name does get dragged into alot of crowd trouble doesn't it?

but as i said, both as bad as each other to put football in a bad light on this occasion
