I still remember when i hit that cyclist, what an utter spacker, i was crawling as far to the right as i dared, wanting to cross the road to enter the work car park, cars were passing me on the left (hence why i was right over to the right)
Saw my gap in the oncoming traffic and pulled to the right, to find some tard on a bike "overtaking" me.
Now maybe i should have looked in my mirror a bit more, but when i last looked, the traffic was all passing me on the left, what with me being pretty much stationary, maybe doing 1-2mph max and i would assume cycle-nobber would have done the same, why he would pass me on the right, putting him square on into oncoming cars, is beyond me.
I clipped him pretty good, put him into a bit of a speed wobble (suprised he stayed on and never hit the oncoming cars to be honest) and it damaged the front bumper on the car.
I was fully expecting him to turn around and come back to give me some grief, and i was going to smash is his feckin bike up![Lol](images/smilies/lol.gif)
But he never came back, nor was he ever seen again (he was commuting, he must have chosen a new route, the tool)
At least somebody on this forum gave me "10 points" or so for doing it

I do not see anything listed here to indicate that a cyclist is exempt from speed limits. I would have thought that it could well fall under point 69: You MUST obey all traffic signs and traffic light signals.
[Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD reg 10(1)]
That also governs one of my bugbears, which is cyclists deciding to just waft through red lights. They should, as with any other road user, come to a full and complete stop and wait until the light turns green to proceed.
I think perhaps the confusion comes from the Road Traffic Act 1984, which sets out speed limits for particular vehicles on certain classes of roads, and mentions motor vehicles, but does not explicitly state anything about cyclists, thus they believe themselves to be exempt

Cyclists are not exempt from speed limits, its just very unlikely for most hence why there is no specific law, on a "Bent" or Recumbent (hence BentMikey) its easier to attain higher speeds due to the aerodynamics, 40 mph on the flat isnt unheard of, however its a bit of a non problem as it wont be much over and they are so much smaller and lighter and so rare as to not be an issue, you dont get articles in you local newspapers about speeding recumbent riders terrorizing the neighbourhood now do you !

Riding on the pavement is inadvisable, rarely see "proper" cyclists doing it, its usually kids and weirdos, I weight 235 pounds and am just over six foot, my bike and gear weighs 40 to 50 pounds depending on what I am carrying, doing twenty five mph on the pavement is way too much kinetic energy to be used when there are people on foot about, ok if they step into the roadand you hurt someone it is forgivable but if you are in the wrong place its inexcusable.
I go onto the pavement at one place in my journey to avoid a horrendous offset junction across a busy A road, I go at walking pace and then jib out of a driveway further up, I think it is acceptable if you keep your speed to walking pace or get off.

The only comment that I am going to make is that in one of his other videos he quite clearly says (in a caption box thingy)
"I'm exceeding the 30mph speed limit which is quite legal on a pushbike"
Is it? I really really don't think so
![Nono](images/smilies/nono.gif)
It's a Road Speed Limit and applies if you are cycling, horse-riding or even running and is not just for motorised vehicles...

How do you reason with a **** like that, one rule for him, one for all other motorists!
If i ever see him i will knock him out, then explain to him why as he comes round!

OK have been enjoying some lievely debate over there and despite my assessment of Mikey in many of his vids he does have a point as regards this idiot in the Subaru even if I don't agree with his methods of handling the situation.
It seems the guy was spotted by an independent witness doing silly speed before the alteracton in the video and has since been spotted again doing silly speeds. Given that he has a propensity to jump out of the car and hurl abuse etc. it may only be a matter of time before he does something really silly.
If anyone on here knows him (silver newage reg. D4N OK) or indeed if he is reading this maybe it would be a good idea to take a long hard look at his/your actions and calm down before the police see your antics.

I'm sure I used to see that guy regularly, around the Edgware, Stanmore area, it never used poodle about either, especially when it saw another scoob.

Good afternoon Gents (I presume you're all Gents, on t'web its so hard to tell sometimes, LOL)
If I might interject and explain why some of us have ended up with cameras on the roads.. I have been using the roads and cycling since I was 13 and did me provisional, I probably have more road experience than a lot of people who simply start when 17 and get into a car. I don't drive as I dont need to, but accept that cars often have a valid reason for being there.
Oh and I aint no liberal lefty greenie, LMAO! I've never run a light in my life (and frankly think those that do are moronic), and the last time I rode on the pavement I was probably about 11 and too unfit to get up to any speed.
On to the camera. A few years back I had an incident where I ended up having to take some evasive action after a driver came at me from the otherside of the road. Approximately a few millimetres from my body as he barged through past me and the two lots of parked cars on either side. I had to physically lean to my left over a parked car so his wing mirror wouldnt hit me.
Unless you have been in that situation you wont fully realise the sheer fear it puts you in. Much to my frustration neither Police, or even friends beleived my story. I wanted to initially document that these things happen and show others in the hope of changing attitudes.
I would say even though I average 20mph on the flat I can be passed in a 5 mile journey by some 300 cars. It only takes one however to mess things up royally, as I found out last september. I had been using the camera for around 6 months or so and a driver pulled out of a junction as I navigated the cyclelane at no more than 6mph. I saw a LOT of air and eventually came to on the deck facing the wrong way around. He'd smashed my knee ligaments and shoulder in pretty good and the Doc said it was a sheer luck that I received no breakages. It was a full on ambulance and police jobby and 2 months of recovery.
The camera was used to secure payment for the damages I'd received - his insurer just werent interested until I sent them the footage (via their Chief Exec I might add). It has become my little black box incase something does happen. LOL and I also dont see why I should give up the bike because of a few numpties who cant drive.![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Lastly I have used the camera as (hopefully) an educational tool. I too post on youtube and have fully encouraged drivers and motorcyclists to also consider using them. I couldnt care less if a bad cyclist is caught out tbh - it could be used to make the roads safer if you send it to the right people. I've sent videos to government, councils etc in the hope of raising awareness... its a slow journey and I'm realistic about it all as more people take up cycling.
I think I have about 70 cycling videos up and tbh it isnt that hard to record someone doing something they shouldnt. I'd say about 10-25% of drivers daily dont understand how to drive around cyclists but there is good advice in both the Highway Code and with the IAM:
http://www.iam.org.uk/Resources/Inst...s/fac17001.pdf (hope the link is acceptable)
BTW I dont think I've ever had any problems with Scoobies, most owners seem pretty sound (including a neighbour).. it does tend to be your normal everyday driver around here if anything does kick off.
EDIT: As for the airhorn and shouting - you're allowed to use these under the HC to warn of danger. I can think of a number of times that had I not shouted the driver would have taken me out. I would hope that if someone did something dangerous to you in your car that you would consider the horn (finar!) as it isnt a rage issue, it s a "hey watchout" issue.

I get the camera bit - especially in your example. Its the 'policing', holier than thou cr@p that doesn't work for me. By all means have a 'black box' bit of insurance but the vigilante bit is too much.

I will ask you and some of the other naysayers this: why blame the victim in this case? Would you also blame a shop for being robbed, or a girl for being raped? The guy was just riding in and out of work. He has done nothing illegal or immoral, and if you feel that way perhaps you should re-evaluate your standing?

Someone on here descrived cyclists as second class citizens, I think that perception is what caused this incident, the cyclist getting all above his station by daring to sound his horn, alpha male in Scooby objecting, then scuttling back to the safety of his car when he ran out of bravado, neither were perfect but I think BentMikey came across better that D4N.

JACKO - cheers for that, I tried to read as much as I could but a lot of this and the CC forum post have gone around in circles. I still think there has been an element of blame the victim on both sites which you wouldnt get with any other situation. We all have to use the roads and neither of us is going to disappear anytime soon so we might as well do what we can to share it safely and effectively.
