downfader,

Thanks for posting. I am probably the most prolific poster on the CC thread, but never once have I blamed BM for the event in the video at the start of the thread. D4N is an aggressive idiot and I don;t care whether he drives a Scoob or not. My issue is with BM's method of handling such events and I mean that more in relation to some of his other videos on YouTube and of course with the cyclists posting about how all drivers should be presumed guilty in any collision between a cyclist/pedestrian and a motorised vehicle, a view that I actually find quite worrying as to why anyone would think it was an acceptable scenario.

Nobody should be presumed guilty in any situation, its down to the facts to be illicited and considered, that said motorists (of which I am one) do have additional responsibility due to the massive weight and speed differential that a car has, though cyclists still do have to behave responsibly as they can still cause an accident.

I think the camera cyclists sometimes do it having had similar situations occur many times before with no right of reply or proof an incident occurred, potentially once they have it, being used to it they are ready with an answer, if nobody ever took liberties it would be a total surprise and there wouldnt be such a conditioned response, doubt any cyclist dreams of opportunities to respond to ranting idiots.

I got stuck behind a load of bikes today, two idiots riding two abreast, gabbing, my pet hate, they are entitle to do it but it just says f*ck you to those behind, I dint get irate, I overtook carefully when I had chance, it was the first time this year, they delayed me perhaps 30 seconds, that is 30 seconds before the queue of cars that I spent upwards of ten minutes in, so on balance, its not really much of an issue.

I've never been one to beleive in the culpability situation, which I think many UK cyclists on forums misunderstand. It is an insurance ploy by Governments in all reality due to the insurers across europe for a long time having dismissed claims. Canada is the same. Pedestrians and cyclists generally are treated better, none of that being charged at as you walk the zebra I understand. Most legislation tends to be a reaction to something that is easily avoidable with common sense.

I have spoken with Mikey several times over the past year. He is a sound bloke, I dont agree with everything he does, and I'm sure he probably doesnt agree with half the stuff I do. In some ways cyclists are as varied as drivers... but with pretty much all of us just wanting to get to work in as little fuss, haha.

BTW is this --> the lil guy from Gooneys?

JACKO - thats exactly it. The delay is only a few seconds, even motoring groups agree.

Right, got to leave for work!

Hang on, we're now calling Bent Mikey a victim? In the video, it's hard to see how close the car gets but if BM hadn't shouted and sounded his horn (and he did this far too late for it to be a warning, it was a burst of anger and remonstration which D4N reacted to) then nothing would have happened. D4N didn't knock BM off his bike (not even nearly, IMHO).

Militants of any type annoy me and militant cyclists are as bad as feminists

Surely its just a matter of obeying the rules of the road and having a bit of thought for others on the road-in all respects.

I think D4N might have had a slight guilty conscience about the proximity of the overtake, if he had actually been miles away he would have wondered what the noise was, it couldnt possiblity be directed at him as he was driving in a most courteous manner. The horn, is not meant to be used as a rebuke, it is meant to alert others to your prescence or danger, perhaps BentMikey was using it as a rebuke or was just a bit slow to react, if it was a rebuke then thats a bit debateable, legally but I would imagine when you are sat two inches off the floor with cars blasting past you want some right of reply as shouting would just be drowned out, if I am in my car and someone does something cockish I don't think twice about the legality of sounding my horn I just use it, I dont care, if they need telling thats the only way I can do it.

Personally, anyone who reacts like that to a horn being sounded shouldnt really be driving a car as it happens regularly, by all means enquire as to what the problem is but D4N launched into a ranting tirade calling BM a "Bitch" and slagging off his transport rather than just asking why he felt the need to sound his horn, then tops it off by putting the car into reverse and backing up a bit towards a vulnerable road user intending to threaten him, hmm, using a tonne and a half of metal to threaten running someone over, thats pretty serious stuff, that hoot on the horn must have terrified D4N, go and sit on the floor and get someone to reverse towards you, I would think its pretty alarming, after the rant I would think that to BM it would have looked like he had specifically got back in the car to run back over him, nice.

Just think, say your missus/mum/gran is out driving or your child out cycling and accidentally crosses someone like D4N, would you like them to be subjected to that just for beeping at him or getting in his righteous way, would you be inclined to debate her causing his reaction or would you be giving serious consideration to having a word with him, I cant say whether he would differentiate between a woman, a child or a bloke on an unusual bicycle.

I really hope that D4N has read this thread and its "Sister" thread on Cyclechat and taken something away, he may not have been 100 percent the reason for the altercation but the debate has been around BentMikey's motivation and attitude, whether D4N was being at that moment/is always a prize **** hasnt been up for debate.

Would love to see him out on the road just to see how he normally drives.

Its tossers like this that make me embarrased to own a Subaru
At least mine doesnt do too much driving on Public Roads
I dont think some of the comments by the cyclist were entirely the best but the Scoob driver was a complete tw*t
If I'd have been the cyclist I doubt I'd have been that ok with it - would like to see how he'd deal with a 20 stone cyclist.......

Perhaps its time we all stopped being fannies and fcuked the cameras off, all they do is wind people up, if you cant cycle without one i question your ability to cycle properly and without winding drivers up, hence the reason you need one is to stop people going off at you for riding inconsideratly or deliberatly provoking people.

I know lots of cyclists, they all know how i feel, but NOT ONE of them feels the need for a camera!

What are you so afraid of? Seriously?

You know I did read you comments on the CC thread it it does seem to me, even without a license, that you dont seem to know much about the road, the highway code or the road traffic act.

As for provoking people? How would you know it is there? Do you actually know what the cameras used look like?

Lastly you may know a lot of cyclists (I find your comment very similar to the comments racists uttered to me in the 80s funnily enough "I know a lot of black guys but...") but you may not know that a lot of cyclists use the cameras and dont post online about it. As I said above its often used as an insurance (the very same reason I wear hiviz and a helmet - nothing to do with protection as god knows they do nothing during the day - but insurance companies dont pay out unless you have them)

Look I came here to try and hold out an olive branch and explain my situation - frankly you and one or two others just seem up for a fight or to provoke some kind of reaction either here or on the CC forum. I dont think its worthwhile having somekind of cross-fora war over this.

downfader, this is Scoobynet... welcome to Hell !!

Just kidding, but let's face it we can fight amongst ourselves better than most so a cross-fora war is a welcome diversion for some on here

I have tried to hold my own over on CC without being rude and for the most part it has been quite fun. However one thing I have noticed about CC is certain posters seem uttery incapable of reading the posts fully. It's almost like they can't wait to start writing before they have finished reading.

Still maybe it's the same here and I just don't notice it.

having a camera smacks of vigilante ism, and going to the police every five minutes will only make enemies, and as for the calls of a section 59 put on the car, give me a break, i see **** like that every day, there would be section 59 markers all over my town!, dont even get me started on the clown who said call the poplice and claim section five and have him prosecuted, where i come from it was a talking too, nothing more, again if that warrented a prosecution thwere woyld be thousands a week in my town, unwrap the cotton wool ffs!

I cant stand tools who video everything, its gay as **** and to me says they have been kicked off on that many times for goading other road users that they fear for their saftey cos they are an unsafe, inconsiderate cyclist, not cos they are an innocent victim of those nasty, polluting car drivers who bully cyclists off the road!

PLus the airhorn is over the top, plus he admits to speeding (but thats ok for a cyclist) and he admits to grassing number plates to the coppers, i fcjuking hate ******* like "bentmikey". even his name is a **** up!

Im going to football now, and its a known cycle route from here to knutsford, and its full of militant ******* who ride three abreast and dont give a **** if they hold traffic up, and give the ****** sign if someone dares overtake them. Ive half a mind to take pictures and film it so you all know why i hate cyclists. The levels of disregard i WILL see both there and back tonight beggar belief, the self righteous *****!

Why do cyclists, as posted on that forum i posted on, feel they have the right to hold up traffic, the ******* idiots, all that will do is annoy every single driver behind them, go single file you asshats!

It's funny but I very rarely see cyclists ride 2 abreast, especially when commuting. They're all loners really.

Funny, I cycle from Wilmslow to Knutsford every day and have never seen these three abreast cycling posse's, I see the odd cyclist, occasionally, generally on their own, rarely two abreast, never mind three, it annoys me when I see it but dont tar all cyclists with the same brush, I personally avoid busy roads and use the roads that arent any real use to cars round the back of the airport, I think your hatred of cyclists is massively out of proportion with the actual inconvenience they cause you, I always acknowledge a courteous driver, if someone has been held up for a few seconds, and it is only a few seconds in reality, nothing compared to the time you spend in traffic and miniscule on the actual journey time or the time you spend moaning out the "self righteous *****" on here.

Your sig says you hate the Police as well, sounds like you need to chill a bit and you will be a lot happier, it doesnt really matter, live and let live, peace etc.

Mate, I totally agree that D4N's reaction is way over the top but if you sound the horn you always get a reaction, usually a gesture but sometimes worse. Without the blast of the horn and the shout this wouldn't have been a memorable event for either person involved.

Besides, having watched the vid a few times now I reckon there's a good 18 inches of room, which whilst not ideal isn't life threatening either.

Just got back and on the road where monks heath subaru is there is always at least 20 cyclists on that road, its the longest stretch of road without trafficlights in cheshire apparently so it attracts loads of bikers, on the way bcak we had two groups of three abreast, dawdling along chatting holding everyobe else up, then quel suprise they go straight through monks heath lights when they are on red and TURN LEFT into the path of oncoming traffic, the ******* clowns!

This is the reason i dislike cyclists, cos i see this **** every week!

Besides, having watched the vid a few times now I reckon there's a good 18 inches of room, which whilst not ideal isn't life threatening either.
Nah, those cameras are quite wideangle. It distorts the distances as you can see here Ignore by boring voice, I aint Steven Fry

18 inches is no where near the space needed. What the highway code and so on dont tell you is of the stories where some cyclist has slipped on deisel or hit a pothole and their leg or bike has gone under the back wheel. There was a letter in my local paper about this but annoyingly they havent put it online. The girl was quite badly hurt and another motorist had to block the driver in and phone the Police.

From a legal standpoint if you bodge the overtake you're responsible for damages. Contributary negligence they call it. A few other EU countries accept 1.5m as being the correct distance, the UK has been too gutless to put it in the HC tbh depsite several campaigns even by motoring groups who want clarity (I think the RAC were involved).

Quick Reply: Ok, so who has been upsetting cyclists ?
