whats the crack on chips

Cheers Scott, I did have my doubts. So it would perform like your own PP chip, right? Why the hell has the seller got up for £350 though?! Even if you lop off £50 for for his 440s, then he's still got it up for c.£300...!
dbay, if you do go FM/remap, etc, then DO NOT get that ECU in that eBay link I posted, as it's NOT mappable! (as kindly pointed out by Scott). Sorry about that everyone.
Either get the proper ESL Live supplied/fitted/mapped by Jolly Green Monster... or perhaps try to snare a cheapish 2nd hand Apexi Power FC...

i dont want to go the whole hog of an apexi, just a little more oomph. im thinking of upgrading to front mount and some bigger injectors. ive got the fuel pump, indution kit, full decat system, ported headers and turbo. any more than that its gona get to exspensive.

dbay, there's some misunderstanding here...
If you get a FMIC you really should get a remap - it invariably won't be safe for your engine otherwise! The two go hand in hand.
If you definitely don't want to go to all that expense, then please don't get a FMIC either! (and save your hard-earned in the process).
My apologies dbay - I didn't realise that you didn't know a remap would be required for a FM!
The best option for your wants - as we've all previously touched on - will be the Polar Performance non-mappable, fixed-map chip. It's specifically designed around your car's precise hardware: TD05H 16g; slanty TMIC; 380cc injectors.
It will also tolerate a full decat downpipe/system and aftermarket panel filter, so you can fit those two items to gain potentially more power/torque/drivability/fun!... and still safely operate within the margins of the chip's map.
As previously stated, sometmes they pop up on eBay and on here 2nd hand, already pre-installed into a 4-plug ECU, all ready for you to swap over and play! Look to pay around £80 for one...

Yes, but the FMIC cools the air far more than the tiny OEM TMIC can ever hope to, so there'd be a greater, more dense charge of air getting into the engine. The ECU will attempt to lookup suitable fuel tables to maintain a safe AFR... which it may, or may not, succeed in doing. If it doesn't, then the AFR could well be too high (running lean) which is dangerous to the engine and may lead to det...
So it's a bit of an unknown... unless you get it rolling roaded and the AFRs checked out throughout the rev range...

Talking of making sense. Have you decided with way your going yet??
Simple cheap PP chip or FMIC with ESL
ps Nice 4 pots you aquired, not seen them before Can i be so bold to ask what you paid??

ive emailed pp asking about there chip and if it fits my car, ive also asked about if it will run a front mount safely. if any one knows they will. i paid £250 for the 4 pots, i had to buy some new 330mm discs tho. i managed to get a set off a local rally place for £150 for the pair new as they are the same pattern as the ap's bells. just need to get some pads off rally design. ive managed to pair the pads up with willwood superlites and im going for the poly e's as there only for road use . if any one wants some new 330/28mm disc's i can give you the number for them, he has at least 20 pairs

Nice one, Scott.T will put you right re: his chip
Cracking deal on the 4 pots then they look the dogs and really pleased you got them all matched up. By all accounts it a well worth while mod Its taken me nearly 2 years to get round to it but its happening next weekend

I have pp chip and a fmic, decat , k&N 57i , i was told it should be safe with a FMIC and the pp chip , going to get a remap next year when i do other mods , but it has been fine so far , and not much extra lag with the fmic, definatly feel a power increase over the top mount .

No.
Although it's still a physical chip like the PP one, it'll have a different map (more aggressive possibly?) i.e. by Prova (whoever they are?), written to it instead.
The reason why people like the PP chip, is because it has been designed with decent saftey margins, etc. and definitely around UK-supplied fuel - specifically Esso Supreme 97 (if memory serves).
So there are no 'unknowns' as to the origin of the map written to the chip - gives peace of mind to prospective buyers, etc...
Plus Scott is very helpful in his aftersales customer service (I speak from personal experience, here).

lol... Their website:-
PROVA????????????????????
Obviously Japanese - so don't really know how old or new their chip is, therefore could dictate which octane fuel its map has been designed around?!

i think the pp chip is more my thing it look like a very easy and simple mod to do for the money, aswell as the good words im hearing about them. im still waiting for a reply to my email i sent him. im assuming he is very busy and he will get back to me when he gets chance. ive just had a peek at my ecu and there is a spare slot for one of his chips so it looking good . i didnt bid on the front mount on ebay as i was out on my crosser getting dirty. when i looked later it had gone over what i wanted to pay so some one else wanted it more than me

When you checked the ECU slot did it have the DIL socket fitted or just two rows of holes?? I had to solder the DIL in mine, bit fiddly but its doable, you will need a solder sucker tho and a fine tipped iron
You could PM Scott on here if need be
I've fitted a narrow band AFR meter on mine just to monitor the fuelling and apart from when my O2 sensor went **** up it been fine. Just a peace of mind thing

it had two rows of holes 10/15 top and bottom. i was hoping there was a chip in there and also i was hoping there wasnt, if you know what i mean. at least i know this mod would work for me the picture of the chip looks like it would just push straight in to the holes on the ecu.

well then ive got some news. i found one polar performance's chips on an auction site the other day being sold by polar them selves. i emailed them as i said in a previous thred asking about if it can run a front mount and if its a direct fit with no mods and this is what they said. i hope you dont mind scot
Hi,
I can provide a chip for the 7K ECU. this ecu already has the socket fitted for the chip so very easy to fit.
the 7K is mapped to just under 1bar boost, my chip will be mapped to 1.15bar with changes to fuel, ignition and boost control.
The STi 2 RA normally see close to 300BHP with this upgrade if combined with decat etc...
i have suppled to other who have later retrofitted a FMIC with no ill effects.
- polar_performance
so i managed to get the missus to bid on it at 8am this morning for me while i was on the way back from scotland and lucy me i won it for half the retail price

Cool cool cool! Well done that man... er, woman ;-D
I take it you'll defo go for a FMIC then?! If you do, and you get used to 280-300bhp, then you're only 550s/mappable ECU/remap away from 350bhp!
Listen to me! - I'm getting ahead yourself lol

im looking forward to the chip arriving more than having time off work at christmas. ill see how the chip goes and ill put a thred on just to let everyone know how good they are, as im sure it will be. possibly next step front mount but ill see how it goes first, and i am male and red blooded, i spend more time looking at your avaitar (joz) than reading threds. nice avaitar wouldnt mind some myself, truly mesmerising
