What a shame that your hero's squandered all that money away before the disastrous recession hit the world. The ensuing national debt which they were forced to run up will be with us for years to come.

Its all part of the extra taxes we are going to have to find to service the enormous debt that this country is now in. There are more fuel taxes to come and VAT will soon go back up. We have seen nothing yet, but we will soon see the chickens coming home to roost.

Further increases in duty are planned for the beginning of next year. If we do nothing then prices will just keep on rising. The question is, what can we do that they will take any notice of
What I have started to notice is that the ordinary person is complaining about fuel prices more now than ever. The enthusiast does not seem to mind as much as ordinary folk. Yes, we may have less efficient cars, but that is a choice. People who already have the most economical transportation are the ones that are trapped, and they are the ones in the majority now.
Personally I use a diesel for long runs (I borrow one), and have my scoob for fun. That is not a choice that most motorists are prepared to make. They are already in something with a small petrol engine or a diesel and still they find the price of fuel far too hard to bear. At least when I get shafted I actually have some fun when driving.
An yet in America prices are still around the 50p/litre mark...

Unfortunately the archaic road tax along with the archaic insurance system specifically discourages this type of economy.

the rot started in the 80's I’m afraid -- I remember an advert (placed by the tory government of the day) for the head of British Rail pre Privatisation
it stated “no railway experience required”
the cult of the management consultant was a Tory invention not a labour one

by putting up fuel it not only affecting the average motoristbut also the haulage industry.years ago being a hgv driver was great job now look how many firms are going bust.its catch 22...the more they put up the more we all struggle and more companys fail.thats why most lorry drivers fill up on trips to the continent.i remember the fuel crisis years ago when everywhere almost ran dry.people need too protest more and do what they did years ago and cause blockades.this country seems too accept everything now as a way of life.have a cup of tea and just carry on.it needs big changes

They have much much higher labour costs, employees have much better rights to holidays, maternity, paternity pensions, redundancy the list is endless etc etc.
you can’t just cherry pick the taxes you like/don’t like, you have to look at the whole – and we have a pretty low tax regime in this country compared to the rest of Europe
if the UK government tried to implement European labour laws the haulage industry would really be up in arms

once again the working personis shafted the motorist has got to pay tax to pay for all the 2nd class passangers in this country ie dole scroungers etc but now we are having to pay a bit extra for the 1st class brigade ie mps and bankers . and you lot moan at so many on the dole etc these people will allways vote labour remember that . also remember the wages are so crap that many of them cannot afford to work . this is fact not some goverment spin ime still working after working out that ime only 70quid a month beter off working we as a family with 2 disabled children get more in benifits than i do wages in fact the ctc alone is more than my wages . due to the freedom of information act you can now see the reality of life in this country , here is a quality example council tax .. devon county council budget is 178 million devide that by the population over 18 working on not just alive aqnd kicking and it comes to 124quid a year not 136quid a month the reason we are all paying so much is because so many are paying **** all . fact 65% of council tenants do not pay rent housing benifit pays so enjoy the shafting people it can only get worse and cameron wont make a hoot of difference .., ukip might lol

As far as I'm aware (1 euro) is worth around (87 pence) So Spain's not that bad, do they pay ROAD TAX £200 per year, £400 car insurance, MOT every Year, Fined and Points for Speeding, eating, mobile use ect ect that can and will remove you from the road. I do not condone any of the above, So its not only the Fuel that we are ripped off on, But for being a Motorist.
