PS, your missus is lovely.
That is exactly why I am doing it, spot on Have been told in the past that I should keep our pets in check, but it is easier said than done and the kids no better than to venture anywhere near the place, but you cant watch them every second of the day and why should they be kept indoors when it would be easier for the ***** just to slow down !!

P.S She says thank you

I hope you get your community speed watch program. Play safe with the hi vis, call up the police every time and inform them before you do it just to keep on the right side of them.
I still maintain that people who speed then complain they have been caught speeding should have there cars taken of them, You know the rules when you take your test, its just a two digit number you have to remember...

I will be interested to see where this goes.
Will keep you all informed how I get on

You "carn,t" stand people who object to others using excessive speed past their house, to protect their children ?

You suggest he moves, seems rather excessive when just getting people to slow sown a bit would remove the problem, looks a nice spot, seems a shame to move away.

I take it you dont have kids, its difficult to put yourself in that position until you have actually got some, much as mine drive me mad sometimes I would prefer them not to get splattered.

Well Sqiss, I could do with one of those too, we have a 30mph limit in the village and as only one of 2 roads through to the other side cars can get a little carried away.

I just need to sort out the parking issues first as the road is too narrow for parking cars on both sides even when they stick them on the pavement...wan....no ;-)

Good for you Swiss!

We have had a similar problem for years - the road outside ours (houses on BOTH sides) is 40. At each end it is 30.

We have pushed & pushed for council & police to do something, but it is like banging your head against a brick wall.

In the time my husband has lived here two little girls have lost their lives on this stretch of road, but still this is not enough...

I hope you get some positive results - we will keep trying until something is done here.

Hmm, maybe I have drunk too much beer when I came across this image...but it screws with my eyes if you are scrolling smoothly downwards when you see it. It appears to jump out of the screen at you

Oh, and as for the thread as a whole. I am not sure where I stand. Zapping ppl with speed guns and writing down a whole load of details does seem really extreme. However, if you have a major problem where you live I can sort of get it. I am not sure it will win you many friends.

If the local scameras setup there and zap anyone and everyone that is even just 1 mph over the limit to maximize profit things may start to backfire a little.

Yes lummy, that image is playing havoc with my eyes too.

What seems weird to me, is that if there is a problem, nothing is being done officially.

On my road, yes there are the odd couple of arseholes that go too quickly, but nothing to speak of in the main. Yet, in the 25 years I've lived here I can only recall one accident (nobody hurt, just a fence although it could've been worse). For some strange reason though, our street is now cluttered with speed bumps.

I have not used the yellow jacket yet as it is still light enough for people to see me and the good lady sits out with me to jot down the reg plates so its a team effort

Thats the problem, I DONT want to have to stand there with my speed gun like some jumped up do-gooder , I really dont. I have tried shouting and waving my arms at the speeders to slow down, in fact just yesterday as I was cleaning the car and my missus and our 5 year old were outside, a motorbike came past belting it at around 90mph past 4 parked cars. I tried to get him to slow down by waving my arms, but he just ignored me and kept going So as you can see that is fairly ineffectual.

Like I mentioned on the original thread, I hate speed cameras, speed bumps etc because they are just piggy banks for the local police but since they are meant to be sighted in areas of accident blackspots, then I guess our little road will not qualify as it doesnt have that high ratio. But what it does have is a horrible speeding problem !!

And prompted by the fact that we have lost one of our cats, had the second one run over twice in the space of 10 seconds, had narrow misses in our cars when using our driveway and have to endure the constant noise of speeding vehicles every minute of the day, you can see why it eventually starts to get to us

I am not in this to win friends. I am doing this because a) the local police dont want to address the problem b) I fear for the day someone or something gets hit and c) it is getting worse.

I fully understand that there will be people who think I am an interfering **** and have already had one instance where some speeding driver decided to stop and take issue with me (well it slowed him down anyway ) but it is a small price to pay for maybe, just maybe there being a reduction in either the speed limit or the actual speeding.

Well as we all know the cameras are always setup with a buffer of 10% or so, so that's not really an issue. Plus with our error on the scooby speedos should be safe as houses

Tony,
You sound pretty passionate about this, so you should with your children one step from serious harm every day.

A few years ago, there was a couple of streets in merseyside that were used as "rat runs" All the neighbours got together and blocked the road each day.

The press coverage they received forced the relevant authorities to take action.

Hire road signs and bollards from HSS, park the car's in the road, get your neighbours together and make a stance.

Inform the press and before you know it you could be on the telly.

Sooner than later before it's more than your cats' that get run over....

Well said Swiss, and I support your actions entirely.

Those who speed dangerously past your house are being selfish as well as dangerous and don't deserve any respect or special treatment. That also applies to those who are so quick to criticise what you are doing. A very immature attitude to decent and thoughtful behaviour.

We've just had a full weekend of this, from Friday tea time to late Sunday evening as the weather has been nice. Douche bags the lot of them, some bikes went past so fast the only thing you could tell about them was they were a red or green bike! As for getting those on donor cycles to slow down, the only thing I can think of which would work is a piano wire strung at head height, but as i've been told before this is more illegal than riding a donor cycle through a residential area at three times the posted speed limit.

I would dispute this even if the worlds most saintly, non liar told me so. In macc there arent many but those which are here arent in accident blackspots, maybe the ones at Fools nook are supposed to be but if what the pub landlord says is true then they cause more accidents from rear ending accidents as people slam on when they see them. So why arent there any on the Cat & Fiddle?
