newsgroups mate. if you have a fastish connection you can download full movies in basically any format you like. you have
a.b.movies.dvd
a.b.dvd.img
a.b.dvd.r
they have divx rips, BR rips, Full DVDs
and a whole load of others. you subscribe to a news service like Giganews, Astraweb etc etc. get yourself a newsreader. people upload movies in 14MB, 25MB, 50MB,100MB chunks and the newsreader finds all the parts and downloads them onto your computer. they are usually in a compressed format e.g rar or zip files. unrar them and you have an .avi, .mkv or .vob files on your computer. either burn them to a blank or stream them to your plasma.
to give you an idea i am downloading an 800MB divx file in about 2 mins

The others
Event Horizon - one of my favourite scifi-horror films
The Thing (1981 version)
House on haunted hill with Geoffry Rush (great actor)
And I like some of these Stephen King films for Thriller/suspense:
Dead Zone - excellent performances by Christopher Walken and Martin Sheen
Storm of the Century - the wife loved this one
Silent Hill (someone else already mentioned this one I think)
and just because I love the book
Omega man - Charlton Heston
Read the book though - I am Legend by Richard Matheson that they updated as a crap film with Will Smith

They're not genuinely 'spooky' just blood and guts...
Spooky is...
Signs, by M. Night Shyamalan.
In fact, most of his stuff is spooky in the extreme..

Point missed !!!!!!!!! You have to watch these and remember WHEN they were made. No computer special effects. A time without comp games where you shoot people to bits cut them up with blades etc etc..... They can't compare with modern stuff but were ground breaking in their own way.

Cannibal Holocaust (must be the full uncut version) its the film that inspired The Blair witch project. It may be nearly 30 years old,but it will shock you.
Friday 13th Part 2 is probably the best of the series, its pre hockey mask.
Maniac is quite creepy, but probably for the wrong reasons
Guinea Pig part 1 and 2
Evil Dead 2
Zombie Flesh Eaters (uncut version)

Another vote for Event Horizon-Found it really freaky when it first came out, and films don't normally do that to me.
The Ring was good too-sadly I knew about the TV thing or it would have freaked me out.
The Grudge was a cracker too.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose
The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)
Found this genuinely disturbing, I am a big horror movie fan but this movie was genuinely creep on many levels.

very dated indeed-uncut or not.Don't think they were ever creepy-not even last house, new York ripper or anthropophagus beast etc etc... remember sitting at the scala during the 24hr shock around the clock festivals.but if you watch some of the stuff now,a majority of it is chod.there are always the classics made by argento and Bava.I still don't think you can beat a good Hitchcock classic.
Oh, and have you seen that cineworld are re-releasing some re-mastered classics,including...the thing(80's not 50's version),scarface and various others!!!
