I also thought it was superb. In fact if I could offer any criticism it would be that it wasn't as "Tarantino" as I thought it would be. C'mon Tarantino doing a WWII film, that's crying out for blood, death and bloody deaths isn't it.

I watched this the other day as it has just come out on DVD. I thought it was excellent. As has been said, the opening scene was fantastic. The tension of wondering what was going to happen was something I haven't experienced through a film for a long time.
I think we'll be seeing more of the guy who played the SS Colonel Hans landa, Christoph Waltz.
Also, a film with two hours of Diane Kruger and Melanie Laurent can't be all bad can it?

I thought it was excellent, 9/10 from me.
Its number 68 in the IMBD Charts and its still early days for it.
Best film of the year imo by far.

I agree, I think Christoph Waltz stole the show with one of the best peformances I've seen since Daniel day lewis in There will be blood.
The way he eats his apple strudel is brilliant the large gaps in the dialogue while chomping down on his desert are just fantastic! Superb performance, I really hated him by the end of the film. A good sign for me!
over all I think tarantino is back to his off beat best.

I've literally just finished watching it. I think it's somewhat par for the course for Tarantino movies, namely; Rather well shot and thus visually appealing. Interesting, possibly quotable dialog, a bit of excessive violence, blood and gore, and a rather long run time.
I was expecting the baseball bat and basement scene to be a bit more extreme from what I had hear, but they seemed not to be overly excessive.
All in all not a bad film at all, and as said, very much a QT movie.

Don't forget the brilliant soundtrack - another Tarantino trademark
YouTube - Inglorious Basterds OST - #01 "The Green Leaves of Summer" - Nick Perito

I thought it was really good - brilliant dialogue & tension build-up and Brad Pitt is hilarious, especially his 'first best Italian speaker in the squad' part !

his acting was deliberately OTT. For me it worked,it would have looked odd if he had played it straight.Hans Stig-letz was a good character aswell. The look of barely concealed rage and pure hate, when the SS officer touches him was priceless,he played his part completely dead pan. Fantastic film...

If you though Tarrantino's Inglorious was bad, check out the original (1978?, Italian, dubbed into english )....They have it in tesco's at the moment for £3.
I bought a copy the other week thinking, "hmm, that's cheap, it's only just been on at the pics......."
Personally I thought it was very good, not quite as fragmented as QT's usual stuff, and missing the subtle one-liners a bit, though I suppose it's tricky to apply to a film of that type.
