how's the ball doing, to date mine has had to go back to have the pin on the clasp replaced (fell off and got lost ) and now the date has stopped moving

Hmmm..
Mine has been excellent.. It really hasnt been off my arm for a year or so now.. With no issues whatsover..
Timekeeping is supurb, currently about 30 secs a month fast.
Try pulling out the crown and rotating the handsday/date through a few cycles, may help with your date problem.

Just a note...never set the date between 2300hrs and 0300hrs on any mechanical watch, or you will damage the date change mech, and the watch will show the date inbetween windows.
Well done Pacenote.

If i was to buy a fake it would be because i love the design. Why try and palm it off for real when one day you will meet Yoza in a bar and get shot down infront of your friends lol.
Love the look but i cant justify 2k+ for a watch especially with a newborn. Unfortuantely i do have a morgage. Shame on me for having debts huh
Agreed very good thread

I just look, if Im invited too, and say " Yes, nice that mate.."
But if the wearer requests the truth, I will give it.

That's sensible IMHO. I buy watches for the way they look and feel on my wrist, not for any other reason. I love the look of u-boat and tried oneon it Selfridges, but I haven't got the cash to buy one at the moment but I really want one!

Perhaps you can. I know that the price of a decent quality watch is going to be less affected by the markets than my pension is for instance.
Spend £2-3,000 on a watch as an investment and it starts to make a bit more sense.

Presumably you come across the "blaggers" too, who do not realise they are mixing it with a “black belt” and try and pass of a fake as genuine
BTW If you see a fit girl with big ***** and a nice watch – which catches your eye first

Yes, the watch, I would much rather look at a nice watch than a pair of *****, you get less slaps in the face that way.
Sometimes when someone asks for an honest opinion on a watch and its fake, they give the impression you have insulted them.
You are on a no win.
I try to avoid this type of scenario...Yoza, Gary recons he paid £3000 for this watch, what do you think ? {stuffs a watch in your face}
Firstly your on a hiding to nothing....your going to make a show out of Gary, and the lad who is asking gets brownie points for free, the only loser is me and Gary.
I say **** all in this often encountered situation.
I would love a job working for E-bay in the watch section, looking for fake watches, I think I would be good at it, and being paid for it would be brilliant.... Im not always right though, ask FLATERIC, I famously fooked up with his Breitling..

I do enjoy reporting scammers on eBay, my current fave is 'no box and papers, my ex gave it to me as a gift and my new girl is making me sell it' on a fake watch!

Is it hit and miss with watches? i.e will one go up in value over the years and one depreciate?

3k in the bank will be worth more than 3k, without a doubt, when its withdrawn. Not much more, but more all the same. 3k in anything else is NOT guaranteed!
I believe that if you order a Rolex (Say a stainless steel Daytona) you only pay a deposit and they can take years to become available. In the meantime, the price will have risen and in theory, when you collect it it'll be worth more than you payed AND be desirible because some people won't wait and pay a premium. All you have to do is pay your money and find that person who's willing to give you a premium over what you paid!

There is nothing wrong with the watch if this is the case, its operator error..

I have a feeling that Yoza works for the big watch makers. These endless threads about watches have slowly messed with my feeble mind and convinced me I need a new watch, preferably a Rolex!
Thing is I don't NEED a new watch!
Anyway, the fake question is a good one. I would have considered buying good replicas, but only so that I could have a selection ie about 5 watches, one for every occassion. Problem is I would have to come clean and admit straight off its a fake, being caught pretending would just be unacceptable as it would label me as a liar and untrustworthy(and a ****)
A guy at work goes on holiday to Thailand, comes back with a SS Daytona. I ask him whether he bought it from Patpong market and he insists (even swears on his mothers life!) that its real. Says his girlfriend got a discount on one so only cost £2k. The guy earns £15k a year and his girlfriend is 19!
Anyway, I didn't have the heart to tell him that I know you don't get discounts on brand new SS daytona's. I'll always have him down as a bit of a liar after that.
I saw a bimetallic rolex sub with the shiney blue bezel in a shop window the other day and it did look gorgeous. I like the little bit of gold even though some might find it a bit blingy. It was up for £5200, which obviously was a minor problem LOL

The watch displays say FRI 18 and what happens is at midnight SAT rolls around and 19 rolls around 12 hours later at midday so for the first 12 hours of saturday it's displaying SAT 18. Hope that is clear now

I didnt know it was a day/date, you will know that you rotate the crown on way to change the date, and the opposite way to change the day.
So get your watch and run the finger around clockwise until the date changes, then leave the time set at 0600hrs.
Now push the crown in to the date set position and rotate the crown to change the date to the correct date and set the day to the correct day.
Now pull out the crown again and rotate the fingers forward through 12 midday, and 12 midnight and back through to 0600hrs again...tell me what happend with the day and date windows.
