i was at sunday and can only say what a great day i had and i thought there was some really good cars put out by enthusiasts who dont spend large amounts of money with the big names in the tuning world a couple that come to mind a silver wagon on the drag strip and also a few of the cars running in the handleing course . i know Mark on here and thought he did very well for his second event but all in all it made me want to get involved in 2010 so well done to all who entered in both events and a big well done to andy f that was sensasional to watch your car.The Lateral car also deserves a big well done for what it achieved on the handleing circuit cant wait to get involved next year ..

its probably been pointed out already but people ought to give trevor and the straightliners guys n gals a big pat on the back for running these events all year and for previous years, scoobyshootout and scooby sprint have worked because they put in the effort behind the scenes.

Well done to andy and to the lateral camp on some impresive times from equal impresive machines.
But can i also point out well done to mikee singh for winning the pro class shootout final a second year in a row in a circuit car
WELL DONE LAD

Thanks guys and girls for all the kind comments, texts and emails, its been a long time coming but that 8 second dash has finally been done and dusted :-)
For a while I'd kinda put the 8 second thing on hold, driving for Mark in time attack 2008, then our own Spec C at Scoobysprint where we won the 2009 drivers and constructors championship for modified class this weekend.
The race car had gained a bit weight over the past few years with the fat body, big brakes and track focused EXE-TC suspension etc, this paid off with a good result at TOTB, scoring in the top 10 for handling, top speed and 1/4mile but as usual this involved a compromised set up in order to be an 'all rounder'
The focus on ¼ mile had been lost even though we were still running 9.1 @ 155mph (without Nitrous)
So a few weeks back it was decided to have one last serious go at the 8 second record before selling the car.
Due to several problems with the Nitrous system, involving burnt out transistors, sticking open solenoids etc, we never got it working at all at Santa Pod yet with a relatively poor (1.59) launch, still achieved a 9.04@158 before dislocating a gear selector rod in the final run of the day.......... which just happened to start with a 1.42 60' time. Mathematical potential for a 8.87 there we thought lol
With circa 160mph terminals without nitrous, the power was certainly there, the traction was also there but, frustratingly, never in the same run !!
Scooby shootout started off well with a 9.38@162 mph warm up run with a 1.58 launch. By run 3 we had the launch 'sorted' with a 1.41 60' but the run was aborted early when a boost hose popped off when shifting into 4th resulting in 9.2 @ 133
Runs 4 and 5 gave us issues with the nitrous again, 9.24 and 9.15 but terminals dropping to 155 and 157 as the extra fuel was supplied to the engine...... but no gas.
Runs 7, 8 and 9 with a map tweek and a new gas bottle and we were back up to 165, 169 and 168mph and the ET's were coming down slowly 9.26, 9.16, 9.06 but the launches were all in the 1.5x bracket, all we needed on that 9.06 was a 1.41 launch like we had run in the morning and it would have been another 8........ if this/if that....
Time was marching on and I was losing further time jumping back and forward to the handling circuit with the Spec C
(did I mention we won that lol) so a late decision was made to change the tyres, I was not going home without MY 8 !!!
Crank it up for one last shot.... Nice big burnout to fill the cabin with smoke so I dont manage to reverse back onto the grippy bit ! Quickly build 2 bar boost on the launch control and GO....... Yeee ha, she was off like a scalded cat, slightly late change to 2nd as I crash the rev limiter, clean into 3rd, flatshift into 4th and she gives a cough but recovers and pulls hard to the line......... hmmm, that felt pretty good I thought.....but then so did the previous 9.06.........
I strain my eyes across the infield, hoping to see some sign of someone jumping around but can't see anything for a sea of yellow T shirts lol, then, as I round the final bend I see all the yellow T shirts in a big long welcoming line.......with a little blue one on the end waving its arms wildly !! YA BEAUTY ! At last !!!
Lisa made me promise that if I got an 8 that I was to at least try and appear excited lol and not just say “hmmm, yea, could have been better, I'm away to check the datalog” haha. I was genuinely 'jumpin' though and it was just great to see so many happy faces, most of whom have been following and supporting through the years of chasing this goal.
8.87@164mph with a rather 'slick' 1.36 60' time. It was only 5 hundredths of a second quicker off the line than our best morning time of 1.41 but obviously contributed to the result.
We let her cool for a bit (mainly the small drag spec brakes) and then its off for another run, thinking if I can get the 1-2 shift bang on and that hiccup away in 4th then maybe we can shave it down to 8.7 ??? Dreaming ? Well yes actually, it was a storming launch of 1.30 seconds and it would have been a perfect 1-2.......if I hadn't pulled the lever that hard that the shifter got wrenched right out of the selector forks, jamming the lever solid and leaving me stuck in neutral ! Bothered !! lol
On the day my thanks go out to Steven (and Steve BT) for last minute help with a fuel supply panic ! and Paul in particular who got up to his arms in gear oil as he helped try and rectify the gear lever issue but alas it wasn't for moving.
As for the past 3 years, well so many have had an input of different sorts, the guys going beyond the call though have been Mark, Steven, David, Paul, John and Pat, totally dedicated these guys are and I can't thank them enough.
And finally the Ladies involved, we all know how supportive they have been, they do a different sort of driving, Emma and Liz keeping us right on track so to speak and Lisa, not only for sharing the driving of 8000 towing miles this year so far but also for kicking my *** right back down to the garage at the times I have thought of just selling it !
I have our own video to add to this once i finally work out how to get it off the firewire camera but in the meantime I think this pic says it all !!!
Thanks again all, you're a great bunch to be around
