There was a thread on here a few weeks back where someone's new engine's bottom end had blown... very soon after their original engine had failed in the same manner! The owner didn't understand what the problem could have been. It was eventually established that the modine was reused... So after logically being able to rule out all other scenarios, the general consensus was that it must have been the modine - containing trapped debris from the first failure - which caused the second one.
As said, you can NEVER guarantee on getting them 100% clean - so it just isn't worth reusing them after a failure. Buying a new one - esp. when comparing their cost to the time/effort/cost expended in another rebuild - is a no-brainer, IMHO...

the trouble is....... anything that ends up in the sump ( parts of your piston for example) contaminates your oil .... then gets EVERYWHERE.... so you should clean everything as if your life depends on it ( your engines life does) unfortunatley you wont know if the piston had any small debris untill your engine goes "pop" again so always best to replace the modine sir

Well, I suppose it's VERY possible - nay, most probable - for debris from the piston crown to have gotten into the oil and eventually circulating through the modine?!... Is it worth taking that (very real) risk?! The odds are very much not in your favour IMHO.

all I can say is...... I wouldnt use one
Theres no bypass thermostat to allow the oil to reach working temp , apart from its just something else to spring a leak ( its on E bay so bound to be crap quality)
I,m certain that if your car needed an oil cooler a little firm like Subaru would have made sure it had one lol .. and it costs more that a modine

lol the little firm like Subaru would of fitted one! Why is that because everything on the car is top spec from them pmsl.. I haven't got enough fingers to count all the upgrades needed to make to the little firms car lol
About the same price as a modine unless you know of any cheaper? the thing that worried me was that I can get one with 3 years warranty (leeks etc) but hey if it fails on a grand scale and I lose my engine then are they going to buy me a new engine? I doubt it!
But anymore feedback will be good.

Below is a reply from the seller with the oil cooler with warranty....
Hi - the warranty covers manufacturing fault, but i can't see a oil cooler kit causing oil starvation unless the pipes or cooler got physically damaged which wouldn't be covered, but for the quality of the kit you will have no worries

No it's not that I don't want to buy a new modine. I have to buy a new oil cooler defo so I'm just looking at all my options. If the after market one is better and keeps the oil cooler then I will get that one even if it's more £££ than the modine. If not i'll buy the modine
Any ideas...

yes, leave the filter in its current location, buy a new modine and if you are going to track the car consider a thermostatically controlled sandwhich plate and proper oil cool.
Consider how much the rebuild is going to cost, then weigh up whether you would be better selling as a car with a broken engine, seeing as you are going to get rid after its sorted.
