All this 2 record/cd decks and a mixer malarky is sooo last century...

This is what today's DJs are using to mix with (including me)

Depends if you want a good sound, or a compressed sound...

But it's probably ok for those who've never heard, or couldn't tell, the difference

Don't know much about dance music do we.... It's all compressed to f*ck to start with.

I don't think DJs choose Technics SL1200s for their astonishing clarity of sound...

Perfect for those late nights hard at work

LOL @ the beer shelf. Although my intentions always were to fabricate something where i could fit my macbook and vci-300 above the turntables to tidy it all up abit, but then i sat down.

Will tidy it up eventually but for now i'd rather just play on my xbox

That's a nice bunch of kit! Interesting mix of boxes. I fantasise that I will find a bargain NAP500 or 552 on ebay but it is just too much.

I got my system (except for the SL2s which were ex-dem at 15% off) all from ebay trading carefully and paid surprisngly little for it.

oh perrrrrlease, pull the other one! im fed up with people saying this

real dj's, use real decks.

1210's are the industry standard vinyl platform
cdj 1000's are the industry standard cd platform

how many clubs do you go to and find just a laptop stand for dj's to play out on?

I'm not too keen on the CDJ1000s, but never really used them for prolonged periods for practise. Totally different feel to my Denons. when monies better perhaps

I've had a go on virtual DJ at a mates house which was quite fun actually. But it takes some of the fun out, like beat matching, cueing etc. But then it frees up time to add all sorts in like loops, sound FX, accepella's etc, etc.

For now I'm good with CDJ's.

Cheers. Yours is a bit more current than mine and your CD player is rather special.

Mine is a bit more of your classic 90s Naim active system. I will eventually upgrade the CD and pre, but will never part with the 135s. Loved the sound of those from the first time I ever heard them - fantastic.

The sound quality of Technics isn't really that good and even though the DJM600 is again an industry standard it is one ****e sounding mixer. Far better sounding and performing kit out their like COB Denon CD decks. You'll actually find that quite alot of real turntablists (not djs) don't use Technics decks but prefer Vestax.

PS. last time i seen Paul Van Dyk playing, he only used a laptop! what an overrated knobjockey.

+1 for Vestax gear. I much prefer PDX2000's to the Sl1200/1210.

No not quite, but i always wanted a decent system. The Chords came first, and to be honest they're so good i've never been tempted away from them, and some people who have a full Levinson system say it lacks "something", even though it's obviously technically superb. The cd player (along with the power supply not shown) really is a remarkable piece of kit. They superseded the 30.5 dac with the 30.6 but that was the absolute zenith of cd reproduction development. No other digital source ever got close to what this can do.

Having said that, while we're on turntable talk, my Roksan Xerxes 1000 Anniversary still knocks spots off the Levinson. There's something about vinyl that they've never been able to re-create on the little silver disc. And as for MP3 etc, well, the less said the better.

I didn't realise door snobbery existed

But no, i think Mr Barrett's standards are somewhat lower than the nice Mr Builder who knocked up my little hovel, but i'll pass on your comments about my solid wood doors to him, just in case he cares...

It takes a real artisan to make solid wooden doors look like those cardboard efforts from Barrett

The speakers/amps would do an outside concert to be honest, it's impossible to stay in the room for long if the volume is above about 25% of their capacity. But the bass they generate is just phenomenal, it can make my cardboard doors vibrate!

Hi-fi is one of those hobbies that comes and goes. At the moment i'm uusing it a lot, but there's been months where it's hardly got a look-in. Just depends what else is going on.

Well spotted. Best turntable i've ever owned. All LP12 owners should hear one!! With a good cartridge i'd say it could rival the best in the world, SME included. But then i would say that wouldn't i?

Well said that man. When I tell people I prefer the sound of vinyl they laugh at me and think I'm an idiot and as for iPods etc. being mentioned in the same breath as high quality sources like CD and vinyl.... well LOL!

I heard a Xerxes for the first time about 6 months after buying my LP12 in the early - mid 80s and I have to say it is different in its presentation to the LP12, but had I not already owned a LP12 it wold have been a tricky decision between the two.

Do you remember a turntable called The Source, that was pretty damn good too.
