spoke to an auto-electrician this afternoon, this guy knows his stuff!
he says that 80/80w should be fine just an up-rated fuse required.
ps. 'NOT STREET LEGAL' in america does not mean thay are not 'ROAD LEGAL' here. i will have some anyway.
DemonDave you have mail!

Why are you buying these bulbs, they are illegal for road use, and very prone to breaking the filaments. Phillips Vision Plus are as bright, robust, and about a quarter of the price. PIAA are for driving lamps only and even then I would go for the Cibie conversion, again half the price and even brighter.

JKJ2,
Coz it is all about being individual ... you have your views and others have theirs. As it happens I have the vision plus in at the moment. These bulbs will work about about the same price and until you have tried some yourself you can never be sure. At the end of the day I can return to the vision plus.
Dave.

Pricing change nnow I have spoke to them .....
40 bulbs would be $68 dollars to ship.
Total $468 = current convet = £330
On the way in have to pay duty and vat because they would not fall the the individual private allowance.
Assume 3.5% duty (if anybody knows for sure please let me know)
and vat at 17.5% would come to £400 ish.
Therefore £10 a bulb (unless I have the duty wrong)
If I have to p&p in a jiffy bag with padding a pair I would assume £2 ish
so therefore the price would be between £12 and £13.
Question is are people still interested in this price.
PS if anybody can spot a fault in the logic above then please shout.
Just found them at https://www.a-pp.com/acatalog/ for ?29.19 + vat each !
Thanks

Thanks Dave, I do have my own views on the subject and they are posted above. At that price for PIAA bulbs, you can't really go wrong, but I have tried them and, after the last pair, returned to something equally good, longer lasting, and at 25% the cost. Like I said I only rate them in the driving lamps, along with the Cibies.

You lot are mad going for PIAAs. They blow more than the wind in Windy City on a Windy Day just after the local scooby driver has had beans for breakfast and is feeling a bit windy. Stick to Powervision as previously suggested.

I bought 2x H7 Xtreme White bulbs from http://www.hid.uk.com/bulb1.html for my previous car £60 for 2 I paid, I must of had more money than sense.
They lasted about 4 months then blew.
But at £20 for 2 the performance of the bulb out weighs the cost.
Go for it![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Will be ordering tomorrow. Any more takers or confirmations before I finalise.
Yes I know they will blow but at £20 - £25 it is worth a try and I can revert back to the vision plus.

Dave, I think I sent you an email saying I;m still in?
I hope they pack them well!
![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Would it help using an uprated fuse? if so where do I get one from?
Matt

The "not for street use" is misleading - if the bulbs are being bought via the US market they aren't E11 marked and are therefore not legal for road use in the UK. They won't pass an MOT for starters, and if PC Plod is feeling particularly vicious he can do you for them under the Construction and Use regulations.
Oh, and to echo the above comments, I have used PIAA's and got fed up with them keep on blowing - now on HID/Vision Plus. I don't think (IMHO) PIAA are worth the money/hassle.
Incidentally, the reason they are brighter is because the filament is thinner, and thus runs hotter, which means it is more likely to vapourise itself.....

Not going ahead with the buy, it was getting to be too much grief.
Suggest you go with the Phillips Vision Plus in the mean time they are the best that I have found since.
Dave.
