I think the diving into the sun thing is due to all systems failing due to a severe lack of power, thus it dropped out of FTL and with no power you can't steer too well. The ship may have made a course correction before the power went to position it near the gas giant to enable it to skim and reach habitable planets, but I think something got a little messed up and hence why it's flying toward the sun.
We know they survive and it's my guess the ship is purposely flying them very close to the sun in order to recharge itself somehow (ram scoops possibly).

Yep that's exactly what I thought, the ship is heading to the sun to recharge its batteries, like the fuel scoop on the Cobra Mk. III
Maybe then they'll actually be able to get on with the story, it seems to be dragging ..

Yeah... they don't like help do they I'm surprised that they haven't used those contact stones to get a scientist involved to help out Just doesn't make sense..... Maybe this is how they will get appearances from the other SG shows involved perhaps?

Not surprised.
Its getting to the point where its just not worth watching anything from the states because 95% of shows don't make it to series 3.
They've even moved Fringe to the late night Friday slot of doom.

Completely agree Ed but SGU was nothing more than a BSG clone with poor characters so I'm not surprised its got cancelled but will miss it as TV is pretty terrible at the moment.

It wouldn't bother me if they at least finished off the story, offered some closure to the series.
But by the looks of it the final 10 eps will be shown which will no doubt end with a cliffhanger.

Watched it the character development was slow and I could not find myself liking any of them.
A poor stargate atlantis and for me blowing them all up could not come quickly enough especially the fat nerd. I thought at least Robert Carlyles character was a robot or somthing, but alas he was just as boring as the fat nerd.
Rename it Stargate Nerd and let them turn in zombies and see how long it takes for them to eat themselves

Oh well at least they are looking to do a new BSG spin-off to capture the first Cylon war

I must admit I do watch it but, as has been said, the characters are a bit *forgettable* and need more development. Though some are fairly developed anyway ... http://josephmallozzi.files.wordpres...9/10/julia.jpg ... I'm baffled by the 'SyFy' link though as I get it on Sky1 ...? I take it there's a simple exp0lanation for the discrepancy ..?

Its made by Sy Fy in America but owned and distributed by MGN. Who sell it to Sky 1. Or something along those lines.
Im not holding out much hope for that new BSG spin off either. Have a feeling it will look cheep.
There will be no actual sets, it will all be filmed behind those blue screens.
