the TV licence is a licence to own and use equipement for the purposes of recieving television signals -- not watching the BBC

for my two penneth, I think its brilliant -- cbeebies and CBBC is brilliant and the general lack of commercial crap is refreshing and we get Radio 1,2,3,4,5 out of it aswell

I have recntly moved into a new house.
Have no go around to getting a tv licence as yet. I am waiting till im asked to get one and then I will with no complaints currently on 2 months and counting.
Don't know why they don't somehow make it so that if you have no paid you don't recieve it just like Sky do.

Very good Wiki page here shows that the majority of Europe pay a licence fee for their public broadcasters. So there doesn't appear to be a them and us argument.

you get alot of bbc bashing from the murdoch press -- its almost as if he owns his own TV company

with the Sun et al behind the conservatives I would expect a real assult of the BBC over the next four years

Ofcourse i do, I watch it thru my Sky Box which i paid for and i pay a monthly subscription for. I have and pay for Sky due to living in a rural area which is a blackspot and cannot pick up a standard terrestrial signal.

I agree with that, I can't get freeview where I live, signal is too bad so instead I get my tv via Virgin, I personally resent having to pay a tv licence on top

its another forced tax/licence ,
call it what you will ,but it should be a choice if you want to watch bbc channels not a forced payment.

i think IMHO when we go totally digital that's when we should stop being forced to pay for this ridiculous licence ,
but the government would just tax or make us pay for something else pathetic.

But why in this country do we need licenses for everything? For example if your child has a radio controlled car, technically he has to have a licence for it!

Hmmm farkin Marvellous so Germany is going to introduce a licence fee for computers in the house even if they are not attached to the internet. But I shouldn't be suprised as it is the sanme for satallite tv. I don't receive German TV as my tv is from the UK but I have a tv in the house so have to pay the licence fee. I argued the toss and pointed this fact out but tehy said tough pay up or get fined. They then changed the licence terms to include satallite even from Ausland.
