400bhp is about typical Subaru owner estimates on here. I'm guessing you upped da boost, put an airfilter, decat and backbox on and hey presto it's a supercar?

Banny - Impressive! Dyno Dynamics too, however, dont they just make up calculated losses? 600bhp in a Scoob is about 200bhp at the wheels? :P

hmmm, sure that reads nigh on 500 ATW not 200

Another grammer troll !

dunx

P.S. I'm sure some suicidal feckwit in a Clio could "'ave me", but that's just about risk taking and ignoring the consequences.... ( 300 bhp/ton ).

LOL

This is too easy :P

I don't actually believe what I just wrote, refer back to your original generalised view of 'Cleos' (sorry but that is hardly grammar or spelling police stuff) and you might realise this was made as a tongue in cheek comment. A couple of my friends own Impreza's and come from money, so I just put it down to too much Gran Turismo on the playstation and bad taste more than anything

dunx - most moderately well driven Rover Metro's could probably 'have you', as once you start nearing the limit the car starts to show it's true potential... for understeering into ditches and bus shelters. Best sticking to racing Punto's from the lights, the 4WD should see you through to victory before any real level of talent is needed and you're left looking foolish :P

:P

my coment about hairdressers is fact not fiction although a lot of them can afford to upgrade to a vw beetle

i'm only jesting in all this i always take all these threads with the intention they are written, as a bit of fun

i don't come from a council background myslef either i have been lucky enough to have a good upbringing, good enough to know i'm no keyboard warrior.

i just wanted to make sure my comment was taken in jest and not to try to provoke the wrong sort of reactions or some kind of slagging match with people i have never met.

This is a great thread! Good fun reading.

Although, this weekend, a friend of mine (just sold his 182) was driving my standard MY05 sti and reckoned the sti will definately go a little quicker round a dry corner than his clio did, and in a straight line, its no contest.

Still though, if i didn't you'd be pretty pissed, initial cost, insurance costs, and 20mpg vs 35-40 in the 182!
The clio is good fun to drive, very go kart like, but its still no sti.

So, Mr The Jesus, you don't think it's possible to make a Scoob handle, then? I'd offer to take you out in mine, which is mild compared to some of these I know on here, but it needs the engine rebuilt at the mo, so might be a LITTLE slower than a Clio

And yes, it handles fine now.........or it will when it's going again

TingTongPJ - dont worry, I realised that, so I'll forgive you for just having bad taste

alcazar - again, I know most Impreza owners are large skin headed Boy George looking neanderthal's, who love nothing better than potting the brown, so I'll politely decline your wonderful offer

I never said it's not possible to make a Subaru handle either, just that as standard the handling is like a heavy front engined FF car on the limit, but thankfully the 4WD grip glosses over it well enough for owners to think they can drive a bit :P
Still, I do enjoy listening to Impreza owners bleetings of epic triumphs they have had in the wet over Ferrari Enzo's

LOL, again, diametrically opposite to the truth in my case, but hey, don't let the truth get in your way I'm quite small, got lots of hair, not particularly good looking and am definitely hetero

I think I can put this whole thing to bed now, actually:

We just all need to remember that the Clio is, when all said and done, French built

It may go well,.......... but not for long, it may look nice,.............. but will soon turn into a rust mark on the tarmac, it may be nice inside,........... until bits drop off, or start squeaking, it may have lots of electrical toys,.............. until they all stop working due to dodgy French electrics

My lad's car is in for a new gearbox under warranty as I type. Known fault on 197's apparently Less than 3 years old

Any comeback?

Oh and don't mention mine being off the road..........that was self-inflicted

Default clio 197

Borrowed a Clio 197 from my local Renault dealer about a year ago. Useless, unless you cane the **** off it. Any good turbo diesel would be able to catch you napping and kick you **** ! I have now bought a 2009 WRX and it absolutely murders hot hatches like the 197, so easy to drive quick. Really need an exhaust though as it's way too quiet !!

Always a comeback my friend lol

French build isn't as bad as people tend to think, I'm on 110k on a totally stock engine (no internal mods whatsoever), stock clutch and stock gearbox Not bad considering it had cams after 30k odd, ITB's shortly after and was charged on 90k. All my friend had to do on his scoob was drive it and it went through 2 bottom ends in less than 6 months

... and since when were Clio's ever nice inside? My Ph1 172 would make you want to stab your own eyes out it's that hideous!

I'm guessing the problem with your lads car is down to the syncro's going, fast high rpm changes they dont like! Think of a Clio gearbox in the same term as an Impreza piston, make of chocolate

i had a clio sport 172, i loved it handled brilliantly but its nothing on the scooby

my 2000MY turbo 200

0-62 in 6.1 0-100 in 14.8

Clio Sport 172 0-62 in 7.0 0-100 in 17.7.

The classic shud win surely

btw are u guys saying the classic isnt as quick as the newer versions or the other way around.

and dont dismiss the clio's so easily, they handle well and in fast road driving i bet most people wont be seeing it dissapear away from the rear window.

Yeah don't let the Teins, Whiteline bits and R888's fool you into denying a fabulous sweeping generalisation....

Did you get the Teins, whiteline ARB and droplinks replaced to dial out all of that FF style understeer?

I'm going to buy an Impreza so will I be allowed to make sweeping generalisations then, as this isn't remotely fair

Dont worry jesus, i like french cars owned a few renaults but mainly pugs, wont go back to renault because they really suck (loved the cars, hated the dealers), and im on scoob number 3 now, no bottom end rebuilts on any of them and the good thing about my subaru dealer is that he always tightens up the sump plug unlike some renault dealer(s) that use to be in heaton moor

LOL, yeah dont ever take them to Renault unless you want the car to develop more faults than it went in with!

Apparently not: the dealer and forums all seem to agree it's a known fault, and his new box will be the ones fitted to cars after 2007/8.

He virtually knew it was going to be so before it went in, and the dealer did too as soon as he mentioned the fault.

Oh, and his interior is a vast improvement on mine in my classic Scoob, even with three extra gauges, a wheel out of a WR1 and v6 STi seats

Mind, it IS very similar to the one in the 1.2 he was loaned while his was in............. same number of gauges too

To be fair.

Clio 197 v Punto 1.2 I don't feel like I drove like a fanny.

The Punto 1.2 has a top speed of 98mph and a whooping 60bhp @ fly

So I have no shame in losing
