Makes me laugh that because the Clio is supposedly a "small" car people say things like "its a shopping cart and weighs nothing compared to the impreza" and "almost 200 bhp in a shoe box". Well.........

1240kg - Clio 197
1235/1270kg - Classic Saloon/Wagon

Not so light now is it I'm happier in my 930kg weekend car even if it only has 130bhp

i had a clio Cup 172 4 years ago i bought a manifold and sports cat for nearly a grand viper filter with cold air feed and a group N ecu was fun nippy little thing that griped quite well went round corners like nothing. but not as quick as my old dc2 and no match for it either.

a modded clio would give a chaved batterd scooby a run for its money but dont be silly you will need a lot more than a supercharger to stand a chance against a proper scooby thats been maintained properly. not every scooby with a loud exhuast and dump valve is quick.

400bhp classic RA scooby would hammer an bmw M6, 911 turbos, audi R8 or even a murcilago 0-130 and thats a fact i know as i have witnessed it too many times, i live in london and we are lucky enough to have a lot of super cars in some areas and they do come out in the odd meets.

i wouldnt even waist my time with a clio not even worth the petrol IMO

I'm going to buy an Impreza so will I be allowed to make sweeping generalisations then, as this isn't remotely fair

I bought a few bolt-ons to improve the handling, you needed a supercharger... ?

Pot calling kettle ?

LOL

P.S. I'm not trolling on a Clio site, nor do I intend to do so. I don't get why you are wasting your life away on here ?

Also own my own business well technically 2 one i would class as a hobby with benefits.

So please dont Put people into catergorys.

Up here a good radio station did a survey called "clio watch" the point off the survey spot fit lasses driving a clio as they are womens cars.

You wont make friends quickly by slateing imprezas on a imprezas owners club opinuns are fine but there is a limit to it lol.

clios look gay and sound gay, boxs are **** on them head gasket is a cracker on them o and the front end is plastic.

After reading this lot, to me it's all irrelevant, i've had my fill of French cars in the past and i certainly won't be going back there.
People that say they are a flat **** car are correct, that's one of the reasons i stepped out of one and into the Scoob. Every other (if not all) Frog cars are driven by a blond with her face pressed up against the windscreen.
All the Frog drivers that are on here singing about their cars will be driving soething else as soon as thay hit puberty, it will be powerful, not necessary a scoob, but it certainly won't be French.

nice

Its funny reading this thread, as today whilst in the cafe one of the younger guys I work with in the company was talking about his car (clio cup), after asking how he and the car were doing he said 'yeah good thanks, had a race last night with a new RS Focus, he couldnt lose me, I stuck on his a*se, he couldnt shake me off'

All I remember is him having CAMS done.
what do ya reckon?

A Clio Cup(172) with an exhaust, chip and IK can do 14-14.2 1/4 miles...I know, I had one, so did my brother, it certainly wasn't shy.

That's a couple of time's I've had some smart remarks off you for some reason or other .

Rest assured though I'm hoping we line up side by side whether it be track or strip. Mine is one classic that's going to leave that heavy motor of yours for dead, of that I have no doubt

I thought it would be funny as you are scathing of the trolls on here , don't take my boredom at work as some sort of campaign.

Regards,

dunx

P.S. I couldn't afford to damage mine, so it will never line up on a drag strip, well it's not likely..... at my age I'd be lucky to manage a 60 foot at all.

Wow, about as much wit in here as a special needs class...

It's funny, I've been on here longer than half of the people posting in this thread, so that may give away the fact that I do have an interest in the Impreza, but thought I would stick up for the Clio and give some of you more narrow minded (which to be fair is most of you ) half wits a dose of reality

Green Goblin - I said supercharger, not turbocharger... no lag, linear tractable power. Congrats on the 11's, bet dumping the clutch took some skill

You mean the bus? People that drive Impreza's dont have company cars... thought you lot got free bus passes to the dole office to collect your winnings to fuel up da scooby's innit?

as for your 5 years... I believe I said along the lines of 'half the people' in this thread. Well done however for counting to 5, that must have been a struggle for you

as for pics of my car, there's little point, it looks like any other standard looking Ph1 172

PS - hardly giggles at my expense, you lot are about as sharp as spoons and about as funny as haemorrhoids

Spot on, I've just got back from driving a bus for some "special" kids, the ones you are taking the micky out of

And most modded TDi's will give any modern hot hatch a hard time.

I barely got away from the last Leon TDi that had a try.

Enjoy,

dunx

BTW at that stated output, your power to weight is 210 bhp/tonne, not 260

Unless that figure was before additional mods?

well you have a job dunx, that's a start, I had you down as more the meth dealer type

Modern hot hatches give base model Impreza's a hard time and have more mod cons and cost a fraction of the price, so by definition modern TDI's also give the Impreza's a hard time... so yeah not hard to imagine at all really. Think it's fair to say the only real difference between a base model WRX and 197 is the ability to tune one effectively and the price... okay, that's my sensible post out the way... lol

You are quite right in the sense it was running anti lag there (which simply allows the ECU to run masses of ignition retard), but it was also NA and on Jenvey individual throttle bodies. I did have a vid up a while back of it having a play against a friends MY99 Impreza (see, I know the 'MY' lingo )

It weighs under 1000kg's too, (1059kg's standard) no aircon, lighter rad, lighter suspension, aluminium bonnet, no spare wheel or toolkit, no heavy renault inlet manifold and cover either. Still full interior etc though

... so yeah, not really aditional mods but replacement mods now it's boosted

It's only 260bhp and 221lbs/ft on a completely standard engine and running a lowly 0.5 bar. Charger will do 1.6+ bars without breaking a sweat, so that might be next if I can be bothered lol

Banny - that vid wasn't taken by me and that isn't me reving it either, it had just come back from Piper for a new exhaust lol

Well I, for one, quite like it! Putting a powerful engine in a small car has inherent "mad but fun" appeal Much better job than Renault did with the clio V6 that's for sure!!!

Can be a bugger getting traction in em though!

me too, more for the sleeper aspect than anything... as it's: noisy, uncomfortable and has horrible interior, but it sure is fun. We're sadly Renault die hards in our house, we have a concourse Williams 1 too, but that rarely moves lol. Wife has given the okay for an R33 or R34 GTR now though, however we'll probably end up with a Megane turbo

PS - traction is surprisingly not an issue. I'd link the vids, but the polish invaders at work have blocked it. If you do a search for Clio and supercharger there's a speedo vid from before it was finished mapping and another playing with a mildly tuned Maseratti Gransport Cambiasso F1 4200GT (quite possibly the worlds most ridiculously titled car). Not bothered taking it up the strip yet, box and clutch are standard and still the original 10 year old items... lol
