Understand one thing, just because a car has 4wd/awd, doesnt mean its any better under most circumstances (black ice/mud/wet leaves on wet road, snow etc).

Ok, i know what your saying, maybe i should have been absolutely specific then.

When trying to accelerate out of a wed bend, or one with leaves, the inside front (if no LSD) is going to spin up, if it has an LSD, then go straight on.
If RWD, then its probably going to slide also.
With 4WD you can put more power to the ground and keep the car tracking in the direction its meant to. Obviously it can't defy the laws of physics, but its going to be better than a Froggy FWD!

1:18 is around Snetterton is similar to what my tuners daily drive demo car gets around there on road tyres and the usual track traffic, but then you are comparing a car with (i'm guessing) a highly modified drive train and engine against a car with a sadev gearbox almost 1200kg's of weight and a 200bhp engine that in reality makes high 180's to low 190's... so to put it into perspective a highly modified Impreza is a bit quicker than a 190bhp FF road car with a sequential box... is that impressive or am I missing something?

Just a quick question regarding rally pedigree (which is what I assume you are talking about), can you inform me of the common parts the road and rally cars share please? (if you like I can help you fill in the blanks - and no, not the empty space in your head )
Again making assumptions and clearly demonstrating to us all that you don't have the acumen to know better. I've had a whole host of FWD cars which have included XR2, Escort RS Turbo, 306 GTI 6, Golf GTI Turbo (petrol) and quite frankly they've all been crap and funnily enough the worst of the bunch was erm the French one.

If we're quoting tuners cars then Zen managed a 1.09 at Snetterton on the same day as above
Face up to the facts Clio's are the weapon of choice for the spotty teenage oik that doesn't know better. They then form some kind of fascination with the marque and cannot move on to something more capable. Instead they "tune" it with throttle bodies and superchargers. It's still a Clio and will still get its **** handed to it many times over.

Incedently one of my mates has a super charged stripped out 306 Dimma (340bhp) quickest he's managed on the strip is 13.9 and that, mon amis, is nothing to be spouting about. He got his **** handed to him by a 280bhp RB5

Finally if that's you in the You Tube video you're the typical oik as described above, **** all squared, big mouth on here and nothing to worry about in the flesh. Now off you trott little boy this is the big boys play ground

Disagree slightly there buddy, id say the 306 gti was pick of the bunch of all the fwd cars mentioned, followed by the old xr2, certainly would not rate a mk4 golf gti over a gti 6 for sure.

I had a cammed 16valve clio at one stage in my life, which was basically a williams with a smaller front track and slightly less power and it went very well indeed, kept up with my old vr6 corrado pretty easily, but out of a slow damp corner pretty sure my 99 uk ppp would turbo would destroy any front driver ive ever had

I think you lack some understanding in how superchargers work, it's a centrifugal charger so the power graph follows the same pattern as the standard engine with just more of everything everywhere, so unlike a turbo you dont just get a wallop of power all at once. Look on Rotrex's site and educate yourself, you'll notice the one I have is easily capable of running 400bhp I'm doubting your claim about having friends though, let alone ones with chargers...

As regards these lube forums you'll have to send me a link to your favorite sites as I'm a bit out of touch with the whole scene, so again, if you can recommend a lube that would also be good. Just whatever you and your fella use would be fine
Yes i will agree i dont have a huge knowledge of superchargers, but i do know a guy who has a 350z with the internals done and a supercharger fitted, its rear wheel drive and it spins the wheels in near every gear, thats how i came to the assumption that your front wheel drive car would have a similar issue!!
As for having no friends your right......but it seems your in the same boat also!!

I Built a mk3 gsi to over 350bhp And as soon as you tried to giv it any juice round a corner it decided that it wanted togo in a straight line? does your clio not want to do the same?

As this is the reaon i went for a scooby

I remember back in 80's when Saab said 160 bhp was the limit for a road car, and 220 bhp for rallying.....

I'm so glad they were wrong !

dunx

P.S. Now back to the entertainment....

At the minute. Do your research and you'll see I had one of the cleanest red classics on here (until financial restraints required she be sold)

You failed as you merely resorted to childish name calling rather that some form of witty retort which would no doubt have suited better my good man

I think I can put this whole thing to bed now, actually:

We just all need to remember that the Clio is, when all said and done, French built

It may go well,.......... but not for long, it may look nice,.............. but will soon turn into a rust mark on the tarmac, it may be nice inside,........... until bits drop off, or start squeaking, it may have lots of electrical toys,.............. until they all stop working due to dodgy French electrics

My lad's car is in for a new gearbox under warranty as I type. Known fault on 197's apparently Less than 3 years old

Any comeback?

Oh and don't mention mine being off the road..........that was self-inflicted
You know this is really unfair on french cars, I own an S13 and in the 2 years+ of ownership its spent more time off the road than on the road due to turbos blowing etc etc. There is more rust than I ever imagined due to Japanese cars amazing ability to rot away after not being undersealed (an mines a UK model ffs). My electrics do still work, although the headlights wink to open and close. This seems to be true of most blown japanese cars that I know of. Japanese N/As seem to be a fair bit better but interior wise not great. The only redeeming thing about my jap crap is it has less interior rattles than my clio, however that may be because its stripped

Jap crap = quick for the 5 minutes its working properly, annoying the rest of the time.

Renault = fantastic fun provided your happy to lose on occasion in straight line drags, corners are awesome and the stereo will always go louder than the rattles

I think if you re-read my post, I was neither confrontational or argumentative. I dont think its fair to imply I'm here to bait people into (hilarious) internet arguments about who's car is better, because I am literate and defending the clio from some of the negatives being put against it.

I was simply stating that the post about a renault clios reliability imo is unfair, I've owned 3 clios, 2 vauxhalls, a ford a suzuki and a nissan 200sx. I have read all kinds of horror stories about scoobs aswell as other jap cars as I have a keen interest in cars and I want to own as many fun cars as I can in my budget.

I can honestly say that mechanical reliablity is more down to how a car is looked after than how the manufacturer built it, this is certainly true of newer cars. I was making a point of this by comparing my 3 completely faultless clios which, whilst far from amazingly put together never failed me once. My Nissan (jap reliability comparison) however has blown 3 turbos and at the moment is parked up with an very new and much worse problem. My Japanese turbo car, has been the least reliable car I have owned. everything else I have owned has ran 100% without issue.

I have signed up to scoobynet as I am looking for a decent 4WD turbo to replace my S13 and on the list is an impreza. I was hoping to find fair unbiased opinions aswell as info on the impreza. This thread certainly makes it seem this isn't going to be the place, as you all seem to hold your cars as the fastest things on the road.

I can see your point and its always good to get other peoples opinions, but if you kept blowing up your turbo's there must be something underlying in your setup to cause this like running to much boost or D/V screwed right up causing your turbo to stall out causing damage etc or it could have just been down to buying cheap turbo's!! I think after breaking 2 turbos i would be going to see a specialist to see whats going wrong So when you say reliability comes down to how its looked after that proves my point, clio's etc are easy to look after due to being so basic and it takes a bit more knowledge to keep and run a high performance car like a scoob!!
Thats not me attacking you......just my thoughts on what you wrote!!

Aah fair enough, can see why with it being a 3.5l RWD charged engine with internals done... almost identical spec to my Clio to be honest

And as before, it's not my video nor am I in the video That's GDI's car park at their old Kimbolton premises (middle of nowhere) and I cant recall their being a school nearby... can you just check your google maps of all the UK schools again to confirm though Mr Gadd? :P

As for the banter... well, mine is suffering due to your weak responses tbh, but I'll work with what I can inbetween cringing at your posts

Surprisingly not no, but then I suppose it depends how much you pour the throttle on after a corner, but it's surprisingly grippy. Coilovers are properly setup which I guess helps, but it's not running a great deal of camber either, neg 1.6 on the front.

And to whoever thought I'd go to the effort of creating another account... simply, no, I think that is Kneel of Clio Sport, so I'd prefer not to be mistook for a girl with dreadlocks...

lmao, very true, it is sad, but it's an addiction!

I really should grow up and stop playing with cars, but thankfully the missus encourages it... sensible car next however... Skyline :P

good to see the jesus noising people up on forums again. williamsclio was his favourite haunt, where he had the fastest williams on the planet running magic cams sprinkled with fairy dust running on standard pulleys. that car beat everything, scoobys, no problem, 172 cups, everything, the williams was king. glad to see he has moved on to another world beater, another clio. yawn.
