Partially its the system, the link between working for a living and having a roof over your head, food and clothes has gone.
Back in Victorian times people died from malnourishment, hypothermia and preventable diseases so the welfare state was brought in as a safety net so people didnt starve or die as they were cold and it pretty well worked, people are a lot healthier and better nourished but its gone from a last ditch safety net to a career choice that enables people to sit in a house provided by the state, with a tv and enough money provided to buy biscuits for when they are watching it all day and if you have a gimmick like a gammy leg you can get more money, a car and buy ****, booze and scratchcards and exist in a little lovely comfort zone where you can avoid the big scary world, perhaps breed a little and teach them in the ways of the benefit scam, car boot sales and perhaps do a little work on the side (obviously not when Jeremey Kyle is on).
So we have people who cottoned on to the possibilities of perhaps avoiding having to get up in the morning, trouble is they start out young and fit but several years of that means they end up knackered and totally dependant on it, depressed but still clinging to their comfort zone and terrified of having to go to work and emerge from their smelly little couch, I think if a lot of these actually got into work and had some self respect they would be much happier.
I have kind of seen a version of this with my own eyes, slightly different but living without a purpose makes you fat and depressed, its been medically proven, there needs to be an almighty kick up the **** for people like this as you cant beleive how cunning they are to avoid changing their situation, and thats the tragedy.
Sad though it is I think most people get something out of working, ok every day of the week is an imposition and rather uncivilized and it can be boring drudge, some people genuinely hate there jobs and would be better off without them but most do get something from it and nobody should be better off for not working financially, that is just plain mental as the benefit route costs in other ways,
No contribution to GDP.
The health issues and resultant cost to the NHS.
Money from the coffers, month in month out.
No tax take.
Keeps Jermemy Kyle in work.
The thing is, the immigrants get wise to this and if you have come from Somalia and have nothing, a free house, medical care, money etc must seem attractive, cant blame them really, if they dont do anything then they are same as the home grown layabouts which shouldnt bre allowed to happen, the only people who should have the choice to work or not are those with enough money to support themselves. I think you are either rich enough not to have to (but still should have a focus), in work, looking or properly ill (not dragging it out).
I dotn understand why there is litter round the place when people are sat at home watching telly during daylight hours ?

It's not unique, and I did not say you were born in the 50's, *BUT* what LT did in the 50's was because no-one "English" would ride the conductors platform, or drive busses, it was "beneath" them. It set the "standard", and it permiates around the world, the US, Aus and NZ. We sew what we reap. BUT businesses and Gommint are in the loop...follow the money!
