good to hear that.also seems youve found a decent garage.i know the debate is still going on but no-one has questioned the cars mileage or wether its had multiple 'bad' owners.all engines are designed by a skilled r&d department somewhere but not all engines are treated with kid gloves.for all we know the car coulda been ragged sensless by previous owners.just unfortunate its buggered now.dont let this experience put you off matey.

Thanx milliemoo, i was the 1st uk owner of the car and yea it didnt come with any history from japan except a jumvee certificate, it had just over 88k k/m on it when i got it and its now showing 91k k/m only a few hundred miles ago was converted to miles, but that is the risk with buying a import it is a bit of a gamble.

update folks, got a call from alan at engine tuner today, and sounds like 2 of the pistons are gone, aswell as the crank, the price has gone up £600 more due to this, and get this alan tells me that when they took the block apart that it has infact had a rebuild before because the pistons have cast iron ones from a normal wrx not the usal forged sti ones, i wish i just burnt the damn thing at the roadside now!

Has it been established what fuel was being used and if the ECU had been re-mapped for UK grades?

iv never had the car remapped, but im guessing that it does still have the stanard ecu i run it on at least 97 ron since its a late 96 model so its not mapped for 100 ron fuel

Hey, just to say good one for sticking with it as i have been in this situation before, not with my scooby, but with my previous car (rs turbo)- the bottom end went and it's a right pain, especially when you ain't rich! but getting it done properly is the best thing you can do without a doubt as you know you have a great engine after all the work is done and if you look after it you have peace of mind knowing it's unlikely to happen again

gotta admit tho that is it really worth it??? And to be honest i would say no, i only paid £3600 for it just under 3 months ago, and has already cost me nearly 3k to put right, i could of got a much better car for the money, but who is to say that wont have its own problems, but ur right lads at least i will have a nicely rebulit engine (well i hope so) after its been done, gonna keep it for a few more months and im gonna get rid of it, i will just be driving the car around now with fear of it going wrong again and that just defeats the object of owning a scooby i think.

i know how that feels stinger.i had a 320 merc 3 yr ago and the gearbox went after 3mth of owning it.it cost 2k to put right and after that i always had the doubt in my mind which led to me not enjoying it anymore.it was a lovely car and fantastically fast but lost all faith.BUT it is still going strong now with 200k on the clock and the owner has no probs wotsoever.should i have kept it,i dont know.maybe youll see things differant when you back in the driver seat again.all the best.
