Nope i will still be using my impreza every day through the winter,and driving it 220-250 miles a week.
Its there to be driven so i see the point in keeping it in the garage,its not like its going to break because it gets wet and cold.

Mines garaged/off road from October for 6 months every year since owning it. I only tax it for 6 months of the year as I get the train to work.

I have a car for every day use so I'm lucky to be able to use the RA as a weekend toy.

I have only managed about 300 miles in the last 2 years but it's the same for most weekend toys I would say.

Calm down love, I didnt say I was a rally driver, I said I think an Impreza might be able to handle a British winter.

Garaging a 50 year old Ferrari worth a few hundred k's I can see the point of. Garaging a decade old fairly common production car because it might be a bit wet or there's a sprinkling of salt on the road is quite sad really, especially so given the heritage it was probably purchased because of.

I'm currently looking for an Elise or a newshape MR2 for my winter driving, and will be selling it in the spring

if your keeping the car for a long time does it not seem to make sence to Look after it ? there are many peole on here that have spent 60k + on there cars

I doubt at all there are many peole [sic] on here that've spent £60k+ on an Impreza. And if per chance there are private owners on here that have spent that on an Impreza they must be mad. You can look after a car without abandoning it in a garage for several months. Not one of the 5 Imprezas I've owned, and driven daily, had any rust at all or looked the worse for wear in our quite mild winters.

have you seen the project threads, + plus the cost of the car then it would be easy to do. each to there own but 60k for a 500- 600 bhp road car that your going to keep long term seems like good value to me.

We have differing ideas as to what constitutes value then. Frittering tens of thousands on a saloon which will never be recouped is a strange example of value. 60k buys you a very nice 993 turbo with 10k to spare. Usable power day to day and an asset that will only appreciate. I'm well out of the modifying scene as I've come to the conclusion it's a mugs game unless your an overrated garage.

my point is if you never plan on selling the car you are not want to recoup the money. i am not the kinda guy to by 2nd hand cars, so if i went out to by a new car eg M3 i would be "Frittering tens of thousands on a saloon which will never be recouped " best part of 60k on a car that. what would that be worth in 4-5 years ? when i get bored of it and want to trade up to the new M3 how much would i have lost in devaluation , would i enjoy the car as much as having a very powerful Hawkeye and a 2nd day to day car. i don’t think so. Buying the new Subaru every 3 years would lose me way more than i plan on spending making my car something very special.


i agree the modifying scene is a mugs game unless you plan on keeping the car long term? and that’s why people like RCM are doing so well as they produce the best standard of work that will last. Back to topic that’s why its worth keeping her off the road in the winter.

I just wait for the dry days, rather than properly laying up the car. Helps keep everything working and also means I can get my odd fix of speed (so to speak) throughout the winter.

ive taken mine off the road because i can and i want to reseal the underneath and give it a dam good clean and fit some goodies but it will still be insured mot tax'd! so if i need it or feel i want to use it i can!

I'm not disputing that a 500+ bhp modified car isn't a good car; of course it should be if it costs around 60k. However, in monetary terms it does not constitute 'value', as in the vast majority of cases the money spent is lost. A modified Impreza or a standard 993 turbo, mmmm not much of a hard decision is it

Unless the car in question is ultra rare/valuable or very old there's no point at all in keeping it in a garage through winter, especially with the mild winters we have. Find it quite sad really, especially given the heritage of the Impreza.

most of the cossetted /carpetted/heated /garaged/wrapped up in cotton wool /subaru owners
who are storing their beloved machines have 2 or 3 cars at their disposal for everyday use and get pleasure at keeping thier long term investments .

some get pleasure out of looking at their bank books ,some spend it on booze and hookers and some like to keep thier subarus ,the older er..purists are going down the RS use now a subaus are aproaching 16-17 years old and want to restore them and get pleasure as they are becoming future classcis like cosworths /RSs
