Move to France
Scoobs are very rare here I haven't seen anything on 4 wheels nr to me that would match my 330bhp Newage yet and everybody loves the noise ![Norty](images/smilies/norty.gif)
Everywhere you go you get respect from young and old as it looks and sounds amazing.
In the UK I felt like a young boy racer ashamed to press the right pedal![Freak3](images/smilies/freak3.gif)

Have never seen one
Only quick car I have seen is a V6 Clio owned by an old bloke he stopped outside my house to have a look he wanted to know the HP and what size the wheels are
He was very impressed when I started it up
put the V6 noise to shame

Oh sorry yeah awd beats everything.
Awd also means extra weight. You would not race away from a decent driver in a r26 unless you had a seriously modded Impreza. You would maybe make him struggle in the wet that's it. Fwd cars are improving all the time. The new Ford rs is a beast. I know i was hunted by one lately and they are very very fast and would laugh at a standard wrx nowadays. My Impreza is only around 270ish but i can drive and could not shake him at all on very wet twisty Scottish roads.
I adore my scoob, but respect must be given to the r.26r and Renault in general. They are still putting out fast cars for the people. The R.26 will prob not be done again it has sold pretty bad (plastic rear windows, carbon bonnet, roll cage etc).
Least they had the ***** to bring it out and not go soft like Subaru are going. Just cause a car is fwd does not mean you can beat it to death with a Subaru even on the "twisties.
Evo magazine rave about it as do most of the Motoring press. I myself hate the look of it but love the idea and the fact Renault brought it out. Do you seriously think... say on a track you could have an r26r with a scoob around the 300bhp mark?, if you did it would not be by much.

Other cars are catching up, which is why there aren't such huge gulfs in performance when the classic was in its hey day.
However, I have simply changed the exhaust and remapped my 2006 STi and there is not much on the road that will stay with me up to some very silly speeds. You have to look at cars worth well in excess of £50k to get competition.
The Impreza was special up until the last incarnation IMHO but I just can't get away with the new car's looks.

Hey i prob ranted on too much for sure over little. But i do hate this arrogant "our cars are the fastest" attitude Impreza owners have often. Not everyone of course. But it's why on the road we get so much hassle and anything quickish chasing us about when we are trying to get the shopping with the missus. Or it's cause i don't have STI on the back of my family wagon Mmmm.
It comes often from that. The poor sod in the vrx,rs et all chasing you prob got molested by a classic 8 yrs ago in his crappy fast Ford of the day and has not forgot.
There will be many good drivers here that could see off a quick fwd car on challenging roads. Very Probably you Mikkel and full respect to you for putting your point over.
But the majority of owners are not that skilled and if a good driver is driving a sub 50k car like RS,VXR,Fast Audi,Fast BMW even some tuned turbo diesels you simply are not getting away from them unless you have a 350+ Scoob and are giving it beano.
It sucks but that's what happens when a company does not move forward enough the competition catches up. Im a Subaru die hard, have loved them for years and would look at no other cars but they seem less special and due mostly to fuel costs more silly by the day . Maybe im just getting old. I feel if they do not change then there days are very much numbered.
For Janspeed sorry for being a c**k but the r26r is a really nice bit of kit i was simply defending a good car.

If it were a nicer looking one, I would, just like if the FRS came in black!

The classic UK turbo wasn't that quick compared to other similar cars of the same period. Easy to drive quickly, absolutely, but much quicker than the opposition, not at all. The JDM STi's were a step up, but even those weren't the quantum leap over the opposition some people are suggesting in this thread.
So to my mind, the Impreza isn't falling behind, it's pretty much where it always was in it's price/performance sector, with some uber barges always being on a par or being quicker on paper, and always being far more expensive to buy and own.
I never take any notice of other cars performance on the road, and i never get any hassle from anyone, i just drive my own car how i want to. Any other approach is a bit silly, there will always be someone out there with a quicker bit of kit than you have. If you are being goaded into a race (usually by your own ego), don't bother, it will only end in tears.
You should buy a car, especially a performance oriented one, based on what you can comfortably afford and what you can comfortably afford to maintain properly, there is nothing of value to be found comparing your current car to what other people have, just go for whats right for you at that moment in your life, and enjoy it.
Car choice is one of the most emotive and illogical choices we make, and long may that continue.

Personally I couldn't care less if a focus rs or whatever is quicker, my scooby is more than quick enough for me. I love the new shape too, think it's a really underrated car.
