It amazes me how so few people can work out their cars mpg.

Fill tank up till the pump clicks, re set trip computer, use fuel up, fill up car again and there you have it. You have a set distance travelled and a set amount of fuel needed to replenish the tank. Simples! All this 'well i get 300miles to £60' is irrelevent as it depends on how big your tank is and how much the fuel cost at the time!

Mileage covered/litres used x 4.545. Job done.

Sounds like its definately over fueling. I'd say it would be worth getting it mapped if you have any mods, regardless of fuel consumption.

I thought the idea with an Impreza was to see how little it could do to the gallon?

You can do 300+ miles per tank in a 340bhp MY99 Classic on a steady motorway cruise......but that's not exactly what the cars was meant for!

Whenever a mate asks me about fuel consumption I say it fluctuates between below average to George Best, depending on how heavy you are with the right foot!

What is the best speed or rpm for motorway driving to get the best mpg out of a 2006 STI? once a month I do about 412 miles and cost me around the £70 mark.

That sounds about right ! If you are trying to get a good return of fuel you need to run off boost, so I would say your car starts boosting around 2600 rpm so any thing below that would be good, on the down side your properly be going about 65 mph

I was driving about 65 - 70 etc, around about 2500 RPM and works out about 24 mpg.
Does that sound right for standard STI etc or is lower rpm, higher rpm better?

I don't agree with some of the comments made on this thread, it does matter what sort of mpg you are getting. A lot of people including me use our Impreza's as an every day car so its important to get a good return in fuel in the week, and then have fun with it at the weekend

Yes that's fine, don't worry drive the car how you feel comfortable with . The most important thing is to enjoy it.

If you are concerned about your mpg then yes a mapper could get you better figures even if your upping the bhp not sure about 30mpg tho ??

the only chance I had to test out max mpg (cos who has the patience for that usually) was to banbury for the gathering, and got 360 miles to the tank on my 315bhp '99.

usually its 180-220 miles.

what sized fuel tanks do the newages have?

6 mpg on track, and 30 mpg only the once...

Mostly 23 mpg in mixed use, no patience me !

dunx

P.S. I have seen 330 miles before filling, which is around 27 mpg.
