yes u will find that jdm sti's do have a close ratio gear box not just the type r and ra, and yes again they are mapped for super fuels version 5 onwards are mapped for 100 ron fuel and the v4 and below are mapped to run on 98 ron, and they dont need mapping for when they come into the uk, my sti still has its jdm map![Hjtwofinger](images/smilies/hjtwofinger.gif)
so please carry on![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)

The gearing is slightly shorter on the sti's, but the boxes are no stronger than a UK v5 box.

You really should read up more before posting. All JDM cars need mapping if you want to be 100% safe with UK fuels. Yes, you can run them on 99 Ron, but I personally wouldn't want to take that risk.

The JDM car has shorter gears, 5th & 6th on a uk car are longer, & suit the uk motorways better. Some owners think its a big jump from 4th to 5th , but having driven both, I'd say its not that bad & you will appreciate teh longer 6th if you buy a uk car.
I'm not 100% sure on what the other differences are on a JDM car, I would have thought it will need a remap for uk fuel, but MartynJ @ Enginetuner should be able to confirm that.
One thing I would say, JDM cars tend to be in better condition than UK cars (the ones I have seen in the flesh, anyway) there is less corrosion on them, especially on the underside. I looked at 2 different bugeye's, a 2000 & a 2001 year, both were immaculate underneath.
Go & look at a few & test drive them, its the only way to be sure it is the right car for you.
hope that helps.

Hmmm, good questions. I'm not sure about the differences in engines, I've got a book with the details in it, I'll have a gander tomorrow, see what I can dig up. I beieve that all japanese cars are restricted to 112 mph, but that's not really a big problem to address. The ecu should be the same, but mapped for 100 ron fuel, again, I'm not totally sure on these facts without consulting the all knowing impreza book. ![Lol1](images/smilies/lol1.gif)
hopefully someone will be along shortly who knows more about them.
No engine is bombproof, you know that, right? I know a chap that imports impreza's from japan, the v7 he bought recently, came with a duff engine. What I'm getting at is, if you push a standard motor to 400bhp, it will blow up/**** itself eventually, depending on how it's been treated.

I did a quick bit of searching on Google & the differences I can find are as follows:
JDM:
Lower gearing
ECU mapped for 100 rn fuel
no underseal
odo in KPH (although this will probably have been converted for SVA)
112 mph restricter
Different rear spoiler
If it were me I'd try & find a nice clean low mile UK300 model.

I bought a 1 owner W plate 115k wagon last year for 1500
not a minter (supermarket door dents), interior mint and working air con
1 owner and standard does more for me
i'm not into buying cars that have been messed with tho
I wouldnt give more than 2.5k but i'd prefer a lower miler for less and prob get it
you wont see 4k+ for it when you can get newer with lower miles

Wagons tend to worth less, even though they are more practical, which is a pity.

If you buy a JDM model, you might get a few extras that wern't supplied on UK cars, the one I looked at had built in sat-nav. The main advantages of JDM cars is lower mileage (usually) and less corrosion.

I paid £1600 for my uk wagon (in green) with 112k and although it doesn't have the same power as yours, or a rebuild/new engine, it is immaculate.
For £2.5k i could get a new engine in it with mods for that sort of power so that would be £4k all in - and be brand new.
I won't claim to know loads about these as i'm still a scoobie newbie, but i do know that the bottom has fallen out of the new car market - so i'm sorry, but i just can't see yours pulling that sort of money (£4.5k)!!
Still a nice motor though - and green IS the fastest colour

Lovely looking car mate.
If you were to put it on ebay you would probably c near £2300 I think id contemplate taking the after market parts off and selling them on replace them with standered then sell the wagon on at a lower spec. Thats just my opinun you would see alot more than selling as is.
You would have chosen a bad time off year to sell up if you do mate, for some reason they always semm to do more nearer summer.
Good luck with what ever you choose
