Surely an in-gear (60-100) test is more suitable?
0-60 is pub talk p1ssing contest imho.
What's more interesting is the "on-the-move" figures.
Everybody knows that 4wd will always get off the mark quicker.
Surely what's more interesting is once it's going? The chassis then starts to come into play - a strong point of the 'rocco, FRS and Golf (imho)
0-60 yadda yadda yadda

anyway, some manufacturers do publish the figures. I am sure that the old Astra diesel for example had a better 50 - 80 figure than the VXR and that was in the Vauxhall brochure.

Fivetide - I did see your post but do find the figures hard to obtain. A 0-60 or 100 is pretty clear cut, on the move figures can be 40-60, 50-70, in 4th gear, 5gth gear, etc - all sorts of variables.
But yes, diesels (good ones) do well here. Apparently mine will "demolish" a 911 Carrera 50-70 (nicked from a review)...

0-60 is a clear cut figure but it isn't hard to gear a car to accelerate like nothing from a standing start and have no top end. Most are a compromise at the end of the day so the 0 - 60 is usually pointless (which i think we agree on)

Agreed that 0-60 is a bit silly but I guess it's a very rough guide. I think 0-100 is better but 1/4 mile is better again.
My diesel Ashtray did quite feel quick on the move - in fact often as quick as the previous R32 Golf (which was heavier but had the same torque).
