Yeah ease off lads, we all have had moments of madness, just that this guy's luck ran out.
Sorry to hear of his loss but as it has been said before, could have been a lot worse.
What happened to the M-tech?
astraboy.
P.S. has he got any tuning bits he wants to sell?

Ease off??? I don't think so........ If apparantly you are stupid enough to do that sort of speed on a DUAL CARRIAGEWAY, then what do you expect??? Things happen ten times quicker at those sorts of speeds. Sounds like a complete meathead!
I am no slouch, but drive appropriatly to the conditions of the car and the road ahead of me.
Oops, 1 less cossie.

Cheers,

Nick

"One less cossie on the road" ...?

What the **** is that supposed to mean? I hate this sanctimonious attitude that people carry...

A pic of a mangled scoob got posted on the rsbb a while ago, and all those who replied along the lines of "one less scoob on the road" got flamed beyond belief! Real performance car drivers respect all performance cars - not just the ones that some pathetic rivalry suggests they should.

I have a cossie, and cringe every time I hear that some tw@t has stacked it or got busted doing 130 etc etc, cos it gives cossie owners a bad rep.

A little unsure how much of a tw@t this guy was driving like to lose a 4x4 saff....

And Mr. Felstead.... 165 mph on a public road? The Ring doesn't count ! (just watched Stef's video at Mr Rainbird's house yesterday!)

Unhappy

Hope he is OK.

I agree with some on here, we should ease off a bit. It is all about how appropriate the speed is. The Fiesta Turbo BBS post the other day was silly - 140 in an urban area, but I know that the dual carriageways around here "could" be suitable for high speeds if quiet.

I have done 138 in my 205 GTi, and 145 in the MR2 (all on the motorway and when quiet). I have also done 130 in the MR2 whilst on a Scooby meet as organised on this board. I was alongside 4 or 5 well known members on here on a relatively quiet motorway all doing top whack.

With regards Trackdays, we would all love to do them but unfortunately they are reserved for people who earn more than they spend which is definately not me. I would love to take my car on track but cant afford the wear and tear, the fuel, or the insurance. And I cant risk losing my car into a barrier.

Just my Euro's worth - if you are careful out there and read the conditions, traffic, danger and road you will be fine.

So you drive at 14 miles an hour then eh?

He made a mistake and has paid the price. This holier than thou attitude on this BBS is frankly distasteful. If you break the law you break the law!

I presume to accident investigators will no doubt realise he was going every so slightly faster than the legal limit and may actually want to have a word in his ear about adding a few points on his license.

You say that speeding is speeding, but it isn't nearly as simple as that. Yes,the speed limit on motorways should in some ways be reviewed, with the build and safety features of modern cars being far beyond that of the cars that were around when the limit was introduced. This in turn however, may well make things worse on the motorways and dual carriageways.

This shouldn't draw us away from the fact that it take far, far longer to brake from 140-0 than 85-0, let alone control your car if she breaks away from you at speed. You just don't do stupid, stupid speeds over here when other people can be put at risk without their consent.
If you are on a track or the autobahn then fair enough, or absolutely, positively 100% sure of the road, conditions and other drivers around you, but how is that going to happen???

I am going to be honest now. I have seen speeds in excess of the above, but in those very few, rare moments, I knew the road well, knew the conditions and knew that on my 6 mile sprint, on the same road, I would be amazingly lucky to see single other car. That's the difference and even then I was leaving it partially to the will of the gods.

You take risks and bad things can happen.....You take stupid risks and things can potentially get a whole lot worse.....

Cheers,

Nick.

I know at 140mph the stopping distance will be far greater than at 85mph but you missed my point,if the law says the speed limit is 70mph and you break that limit then you have broken the law.My point was I bet everyone that has slagged this bloke of has broken the speed limit at some point

Exclamation

Danielson,
If you are doing 85 and someone pulls into your lane at 60 you have a fairly good chance of slowing down or avoiding him. If you are doing 140 you will most likely hit a lamp post or a tree. Thats what makes it stoopid If you hit someone going 25 MPH slower you may suffer some minor injuries. If you hit someone going 80 MPH slower there would probably be no survivors.

Question

So what about the Autobahns then? Does it make it morally correct to do 140mph on an Autobahn, just because the speed limit if not there?

If we had no limits on the motorways (which IMHO should be brought in) then everyone would be having a laugh about this.

Mr Footlong says that if he was on a track or Autobahn it would be different. Well the only difference is that our backwards country applies a speed limit of 70 to our motorways.

Autobahn's...... When was the last time you ever drove on one?????

Most of them have speed limits. Those sections that dont can suddenly have a limit. On Our motorways 80-90 mph is fine .. Have you seen how most drivers drive???????Would you want wifes ,kiddies etc on our roads with others driving faster and not better.....

Anyone who has or has had a superbike will be used to riding at silly speeds, but you are always aware of the traffic ahead. You are taught to expect other to drive like tw@s.

If only self preservation was taught in the driving test.

I admit to having driven flat out in the scoob on empty motorways, but racing another car on a road with other cars about is simply stupid. The guy is lucky to be alive. The guy is even more lucky that no one else was killed or injured as I'm sure living with that wouldn't be easy.

True....So....I take it the car's been written off then!!..shame huh??...

140mph is for private roads..not HM's Highway's..But that said i raced an M3 once..he lost i won..Lucky it was just the 'race' and not my life or his or somebody elses

160mph on the speedo with 800rpm's left in reserve...don't know what the 'actual' reading is though.(Prodrive prepped Scoob) I was stupid, never again though

Red face

The Autobahn was probably not the best choice of a road to use. I was generalising too much. I was just trying to come up with something to even vaguely resemble/justify a reason to RACE at that speed. Of course you still have the other drivers over there who may not be doing silly speeds on the unrestricted sections, but it is seen as an 'acceptable risk' over there by them.. Don't agree with unrestricted roads myself, but lots of people do....

Cheers,

Nick.
