Yeah I like but dont like the design of the later trackballs, being awkward to take out. The 8300's were so much easier.

Looking forward to getting started on the trackpad though, and not running out of memory by opening a second app lol.

Sorry to highjack,but is their any specific blackberry units that are notoriously bad.A mate of mine was looking at deals through Tescos and is tempted by blackberrys.Without looking through past posts,can someone give me an overview to pass on please...

Personally I would avoid Storm's and Pearl's (personal taste)
Pearls are older now, and not getting developed much. Storm's are touch screen which I dont like.

The Curve 8520 is a good bit of kit. Lacking a flash and 3G, but a damn good starting point for a Blackberry journey. Bold(2)9700 is the beast to have if there is a choice.

The 9000 (Bold1) 8900 Curve are older models now, but very capable.
Personal choice would be 8520 or 9700 as they are the latest. If touch screen is the chosen path, then the Storm 2 is the one.

me again...... just trying to get my head around what you could fill that 56MB of memory with ?? I'm a saddo and my phone has 8 GB of which I've used less than 2. Do you use it for lots of big files or stuff

Snazy why did you choose a 8520 over a 8900? i am currently thinking of changing over the BB and cannot really tell the difference between the two, although by the looks of things the 8900 has a higher resolution screen?

Whats the difference? is the difference worth the extra cost?

Dude, is this serious?
You know that MB is the smaller than a GB ? 1024MB=1GB ? Therefore 56MB is a tiny amount of space?
As per last post also.... The 56MB is onboard memory, not removable, therefore nothing to do with music, pictures etc.

8900 in short is now technically the last gen of BB. The new gen has trackpads, not trackballs anymore.
There is not a lot of difference between the 2, and the 8900 remains slightly better equipt than the 8520. And yes, the 8900 has better res, better camera, and GPS.

However for me, the 8520 is almost a direct replacement for the 8320 (my current) therefore is a nice transition for me.
After all, its only to tide me over til im happy with ordering a 9700 lol

PS both 8900 and 8520 should be free on most contracts now.

The differences between the 8900 Curve and 9700 Bold however are slightly bigger, but justifying the extra cost, im undecided, hence waiting it out and seeing how the 8520 goes.

No probs with mine, it froze a few times in the first few days, but all sorted with .344

Screen protector is a must (on the 8900 too) as the front layer of the display is part of the lcd and can't be repaired with a reshell, it'll need a whole new display.

I'm pretty sure by todays standards your phone will have 8gb of memory, not 8mb.
8gb isn't really a lot of memory by todays standards, allowing for movies, shooting vids and pictures and music on the move.

For reference, an average decent quality 3 min song is about 4-5mb

Have another question for you Snazy...

If I just bought a sim free 8520, I take it all I would have to do would be to add unlimited internet onto my existing contract, and it would be the same as just taking out a Blackberry contract... in that I wouldn't be missing any features etc?

They are not expensive phones sim free, so I'm just wondering if that would be a better way of going about things.

Depends on carrier.

Some dont define BIS as unlimited internet.
Make sure it includes PUSH (for email) As a lot of unlimited things are just for normal phone browsers. Make sure it covers Blackberry's too.

If it includes PUSH, you wont be missing anything.

Thanks. I've just phoned Vodafone and they have given me their Blackberry unlimited internet for an extra £5 a month. So my bill will be £30 a month for 600 anytime minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet.

Just ordered a sim free 8520 too, with next day delivery.

Well it arrived earlier this morning. Pretty impressed so far. Downloaded windows live messenger, tried to sign in and it's saying it isn't "enabled for this handset". I can only presume this is a problem with the internet package I'm on with vodafone? Will need to give them a ring later to see what's going on... but the guy did specifically say he was adding the "blackberry unlimited internet" yesterday.

Pretty sure you can just Google for Windows Messenger Blackberry and find somewhere to download it from without any hassle, it's nothing to do with your net package.

I got a few people I know to add my pin, but their requests weren't coming up, so I phoned vodafone and they were actually very helpful AGAIN(still in shock from yesterday). They've transferred me over to a proper blackberry contract, but still at the same price with the same monthly allowances etc. I instantly recieved a message saying I was connected to the blackberry network(after switching the phone off and on), so that's me chatting on messenger now and everything working fine.

Apps are so f*cking cool. Lol never thought i would be like this, but I'm like a kid at christmas with this thing.

Can't believe how much I've been living in the past with phones... this thing does everything!

The apps for finding local businesses etc are very handy, as is the Bloomberg one, letting me keep an eye on stocks(and what's happening in general) while I'm out.

Definitely £200 well spent, and the best, most useful phone I've ever owned. Really puts the Samsung I had to shame as a fashion accessory with a good camera.

Edited to say - call quality also in a different league to the Samsung. Voices are crystal clear.

24 month contract never bothered me to be honest.
I could have had one for less time, but less "freebies"

My last contract actually ran out in 2006!! and i only renewed it the other week.
It does really make any difference to me if i am in contract or not, as i have been with t-mobile for about 12 or so years, so i went for the longer option for the extra few mins/texts/whatever
